Star Wars: Villainous: Power of the Dark Side Content Overview

Nate takes a look at the content for the first Star Wars: Villainous set, Power of the Dark Side. Note from Nate: This is not a traditional "unboxing video," as I find those compelling at times but often frustrating as people take out components and react without a clue what they actually are or what they do in the game itself. I tend to instead actually play the game a little to get a good fee...

I make movies for a living and if I were to poke fun at movie lovers who also love getting the physical media. I would make everything about the details of the film wrong on the package knowing it would drive a collector mad. Its either incompetence or pure genius. Lol I love it!

      There are numerous different ones over the years. If you mean the 2020 set where every film got a SteelBook so that there could be a matching set of all 11 films, yes, definitely. Otherwise, the previous years mostly got the same SteelBooks as elsewhere, just potentially with different content. (For example, there were times when the UK got a Blu-ray 3D SteelBook that the U.S. never got.)

    Can you clarify something blu ray website says Mando season 1 and 2 are region free Blu-Ray in UK, but that Obi-Wan and Andor are region B. Which makes them unplayable in a Us player. I already have the US version so i'm good either way.

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio Před 15 dny

      I've seen that happen frequently on that site. It's like sometimes releases get listed by the region they are from, not where they actually play. The Andor and OWK Blu-rays are listed as ABC on the packaging and discs, and they do indeed play in a Region A player, as I played them myself on Region A players.

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio Před 16 dny

      That's correct. For the three most fancy or unusual release of the modern films (the Big Sleeve Editions in the UK, the Blufans releases from China, and the Premium Limited Box Editions from Japan), they only ran through TLJ, so only TFA, RO, and TLJ exist in those forms. No Solo or TROS.

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio Před 16 dny

      The US had 3D options only for those same three, and only RO had a SteelBook with a 3D disc. Otherwise, you'd have to look outside the U.S., but you *can* get region-free Blu-ray 3D copies of all five Disney era films that will play on an American player.

      To clarify, as I think this was early enough that I hadn’t done an updated episode yet: digital mastering was indeed in 1985 with the remix, so it shows up in 1986. This is indeed the rarest copy of a Star Wars film in the world especially since no country other than Indonesia has released a movie on VCD after 2015. Unfortunately Indonesia has already discontinued physical media as of 2019/2020 due to the fact that most people there aren't really movie addicts but rather just want only the simplest things and only tend to watch a certain movie once without being aware of the downsides of streaming services.

      The good news is that in distinguishing between bootlegs and legitimate releases, it's pretty easy for the Disney+ Star Wars series. First, the only ones released at all legitimately have been Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 (separately), Andor Season 1, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. If it's any other series, it's a bootleg. As for the four that have been released, every single one is a SteelBook. So if it's not a SteelBook, it's a bootleg. If it's OWK or Andor, there is also no DVD version at all, so it's definitely a bootleg. (Mando S1 and S2 had a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack in the U.S. via Disney Movie Club).

    The titles on the spines of things going the opposite way compared to what we're used to in North America is a European thing, not just German. Being in Quebec, my bookcases at home contain many English *and French books, and you can always tell the French ones by the writing on their spines going the opposite way. I was an american kid, living in West Germany from 1983 through 1985 (Jedi was the last movie I saw in a U.S. theater, before moving) and I was delighted to find Star Wars was huge in Germany. Toy stores were full of the merch, and had toys dating back to 1978, unlike our stores where the discontinued stuff was nowhere to be found. My Star Destroyer playset came in a Palitoy box! As we were moving back to the States, The Last 17 hit toy store shelves without coins on tri-logo cards. That brings me to the name change. When Jedi hit theaters, the "Krieg Der Sterne" pre-title was replaced with "Star Wars", which I thought was odd. This branding change from "Krieg" to "Wars" was also present on the German-translated (and, imo, superior-quality presentation) of the Marvel Comics. While I have no actual evidence of the reason why, I can only guess that the reason must have been merchandising. Other than the comics, hardly any Star Wars merch found in Germany was actually written in German. I was often providing translations for my friends with the blurbs on the boxes of their Palitoy Star Wars toys. All of them were branded "Star Wars", with the exception of one of the three logos on the tri-logo packages, and none of them were in German, either. Furthermore, on all advertising for "Rückkher Der Jedi-Ritter", the logo has "Star Wars", just like all the english-language versions, but in the opening crawl, it was still "Krieg Der Sterne". For some reason, I was far more concerned with this than my german Star Wars-obsessed friends, who couldn't have cared any less.

    I could translate the information in the video that you found, if you would like. Sat. 1 is in indeed one of the big german channels. In the 90ies they were the home of science-fiction in Germany and as far as I know, did several of these box sets for Star Wars and also for Star Trek. One easteregg about the old german releases: In the thrash compactor scene you can hear additional music by John Williams not present in most languages (even english). The german releases were always the original theatrical version (including original crawl) up till the remastered versions in 1995. On the Fox Fanfare: Somewhere in the 90ies it got lost. On my german laserdisc from 1982 it’s present, on the laserdiscs from 1993 not, but reinstated again after the overhaul in 1995.
