A delightful virtuoso solo! My apologies for the first about 1/3; background surface noise because the pressing is literally wiggly off-center!

BRAVO NIGGA DIS SHIT IS FIRE YO!!
Doodles was good friends with Don Dokken.
Chet and Jethro were married to twin sisters. Just imagine holiday gatherings.
Jethro was Years ahead of his time. Super talent.. super nice guy. Homer.. Phenomenal talent in his own right. Together.. Legend.
When I was a kid back in high school , I used to play this song on my harmonica on the way home from school .
so great
Reading the wikipedia page of the USS Velocity. Weird to think this disc survived it all! Thanks for sharing!
Whoever said that the banjo could only be a rhythm instrument ? And here this is 1925 !!!
After listening to the nickelodeon play this song , I wanted to hear what it sounded like on a record !
Damn! Didn't know he played drums!
I love Dinah!!!
Considering that this was done in a single take, you have to be impressed that he was able to do this correctly. For anyone who has ever tried to do something this complex, you will understand. For the rest of you, take a dictionary and read through about 10 entries. Record yourself and you will have some idea.
❤
Freddie Morgan had a face made for radio. But he was hilarious
Stunning..
That's my dad on accordion. I'm Joe DiLalla Jr.
In this 1950s recording the strings are steel. In the early 1900s recording they are gut. The gut strings have virtually no sustain to them and sound "thunky". The steel strings have more of a distinctive twang sound to them, as on this recording. The gut strings have a great character to them though.
Perfection
The guitar wasn't plugged in ?😊
Hi. I had the album with kokamunga on it. What album was that on and do you have their song about Rome?
There will never be another Spike Jones, sorry to say. He and his band were one of a kind for true "music lovers".
Freddy Morgan was a decent looking guy but he sure looks goofy in all those scenes with Spike Jones. It all shows he was just so talented as a showman, a comic, and a musician.
She was amazing! Wish there were more live performance videos.
If you did this today, Americans would STILL eat it up!!
This the second time I have heard this song. The first time was early 60s--a talent show at a shopping mall. Young twin brothers sang and danced to this. Thank you.
She was phenomenal
🎉 i loved the song Frankie🎉

I've never seen this before. Excellent!
George Rock is the guy with the high voice 😅 TOO funny
He was also Spike’s trumpet player
"Cabbage by a head, and suspenders in the back stretch."
👍
What a gem she was. It was great coming across this. Thank you for posting.
❤
Fantastic ❤
So happy to find this 💎 post! As a kid I remember the TV show! RIP Spike and Helen. LOL to those related! Here's a toast to Cocktails 🍸for two🍸!🎉
So then are Freddy and Dick brothers? About the only feature they share is having the same nose 👃
They weren't related. Freddy's real last name was Morgenstern.
Banjo playing damn near as good as Earl Scruggs
Brilliant -and no auto tune.
Bill Dana as Jose Jimenez, one of his characters.
This guy was not just good. He ROCKED. He had the spirit!
Can’t top that!
I've never seen a 10" go over 3 1/2 minutes...How did Columbia achieve this long of a playing time? Did they ever use it on a 12" 78?
About 1931 they briefly introduced this concept over their dimestore labels of Clarion, Diva, and apparently Velvet-Tone, but not Harmony though. I guess it's not out of the range of possibilities that tey just recreated that concept here. I'm guessing they shortened the size of their grooving a millimeter, as well as cut into the lead-in-wax and dead-wax length, that's probably what they did.
In the early 1930s a number of companies dabbled in the "longer play" or "5-minute" 78s. In the U.S., Hit-of-the-Week seems to have achieved the most success with the format, though adding an additional copyrighted song by 1932 forced them to raise the price to 20 cents -- which may have contributed to their downfall. ARC issued a few longer-playing discs, including on the Perfect label. Crown also issued a few extended play dance records. Perhaps the most successful venture was north of the border, with the Compo Co. of Lachine, Québec; they succesfully dubbed two ARC recordings onto one side of a 10" disc, as well as their own French-Canadian recordings onto "Double Longeur" discs. The French-Canadian issues were quite numerous and were sold well into the mid to latter 1930s. Columbia's 10" offerings were limited, although they also appeared on budget Velvet Tone, Clarion and (yes) Harmony labels. The 10" Columbias sold for 85 cents, which didn't encouorage early Depression sales! There was at least one 12" Columbia, which you can access at: czcams.com/video/yqtFWyhz4Eg/video.html; the Kate Smith side plays for nearly seven minutes.
What a brilliant band! All of them were totally bonkers of course, but coupled with their musical talent, that makes them all the better.

Back in 59, the critics pan Dinah Washington for selling out to the pop culture gentry, But for me, I'm so forever grateful, that is especially true with the album, What A Difference A Day Makes... Where have I been? I've never heard of her until today. She has an amazing voice with beautiful phrasing.
Spike Jones 's signature wasnt really the jokes; it was super musicianship. And he and Helen and the kids, just perfect. They should have been given a sitcom. The Nelsons had one, after the band days. .
Happy Birthday Incredible voice 🎤❤♍️⭐️
