I dont think they were given the chance to develop their game after wttc in 89. Jiang ended up in the Malaysian team if I remeber correctly.
That can't be said that way, because the Chinese team's strength lies in its targeted training for foreign players. All they practiced all day was how to deal with the most powerful foreign players at that time. These measures were very effective, and it was difficult for foreign players to beat them. However, Liu were unfamiliar with Chen's playing style and had no targeted training, so it was normal to lose to Chen.
@@timjow2667 How was Liu not familiar with Chen's style? Chen used pips just as Liu did. Liu grew up playing against a lot of players similar to Chen. Don't tell me that Liu didn't prepare for his match against Chen. As of today, I still believe that Jiang Jia Liang and Chen Long Can were really good but forced to retire. Their coaches didn't allow them to lose. They failed in a few tournaments and they were out. Give them a break! Even Ma Long, Wang Liqin, Waldner, Persson, or Fan Zhendong had bumpy rides.

These reasons are hard to understand if they are not Chinese. I'm sorry I can't make you understand in a few simple words. Then must have a deep understanding of the system, structure, training, history and many other aspects of the Chinese team.
@@timjow2667 Your explanation is clear but what I am trying to get to is that Ma Long and many of his teammates occasionally failed. Wang Liqin and Ma Lin failed to win the 2003 WTTC Single and the 2004 Olympic Gold and yet, they have second chances. Not so for Jiang Jia Liang or Chen Long Can.
