This Church is over 100yrs. Old! I sang in the choir of this beautiful church from 3rd grade upon graduation. Our teacher was Mother Gabriel. A fine teacher! A loving person. I remember singing in the hall of my building. To even practicing the songs Mother Gabriel taught us to even the songs in our hymnal. No one ever told me to keep quiet! Years later l learned from my uncle Americo he kept his door open to hear me sing. All the while ll thought it was my Aunt Carmen making sure l came home straight from school. It wasn't till my uncle was dying from blindness from diabetes, he requested l continue to sing. It brought tears to my eyes. I never expected to har that from him. I just sang because l enjoyed it. It wasn't till later, l was told by others l had a gift. Even today, l continue to sing in church.The echos one heard in St. Jerome's Church, when you sang or even spoke, was always heard. To walk down the aisle seemed like a long sacred way to the alter. The cleanliess made you feel more of entering God's house. A sense of peacefulness. Made you feel closer to our Creator and to respect the pain Jesus suffered for all of us. It taught us respect. Of all the churches I've been to, there is no other like St. Jerome. The eye above always reminded us was God's eye.That no matter where we were, God always was watching all of his children. There is no crucifix like this one hanging on the wall. Looking at it made you feel the pain Jesus suffered for each and everyone of us. I remember the high masses. It was such a big event! When our priests went up the stairs to the podium to speak to us. It was always special. He saw all of us close up. We all knew it was Jesus words speaking to us. I remember after mass people poured out of our church that it looked like the subway just let off passengers from the station. A big crowd would come out peacefully. I remember our hymnal books. I still have one of them. God was more respected then. We need to bring much more of that back today. Be an example to others. Before we know it we will be facing God unexpectedly. Don't wait till the last minute to pray! Respect God's wishes.

This was my Church in the 80s and 90s. I loved it. Msgr. Whittier was a great pastor. First Church of Flushing. I would wait outside for the evening Masses.
