Farming for the community of Goreangab dam
From losing her job, and losing a house to fire, she rose from the ashes to create greater pastures in the ruins.
Not all losses are meant to define you, the grass is only greener where you water it. The shanty of Groangab Dam is rife with unemployment. After losing her job in 2015, and her house to fire in 2017. Mama Aguste responded with resilience in the form of a watering can. Starting her first garden in the backyard to feed her kids after the devastating fire, she is an inspiration to those who dare to look for opportunities where there seem to be none.
Farming the Future visited one of her gardens in the silver settlement of Goreangab, to talk about the struggles of an unemployed mother and the journey to self-sustenance. Mama Aguste is an icon, deserving of recognition for her contribution to the settlement of Goreangab dam. Her decision to start a backyard garden has sprouted into a project that feeds not only her kids but her whole community.
A greater world is one where everyone with the capacity rolls their sleeves and flips the dirt. In a world where opportunities lie everywhere, everyone if busy looking at the government to water their grass. Mama Aguste is living proof of the notion that charity begins at home. We remain fortunate to live in an age where education can be acquired around every corner. The knowledge to feed oneself is a great part of self-preservation. Dear youth, the dirt is full of potential. #farming #namibia #Goreangab #windhoek #lokalislekker #gardeningvideos
