When I was in college, the college activities board hosted a lip sync contest. I did this song by the great Dame Angela (may she rest in peace). However, the Johnny Depp version had come out the year before and people were confused as to why Mrs. Potts was singing this song in such a comedic fashion. I had to explain to countless people that Sweeney Todd was a Broadway musical not composed by Danny Elfman, that it’s actually chock full of gallows humor and that Angela Lansbury won a Tony for her role.
