CRF Shorts: Reading and Northern F Units through the Glenn Onoko Rock Cut
On our visit to see Reading and Northern T-1 #2102, we made a short visit to the Lehigh Gorge to see the 1:00 LGSR train heading up to Old Penn Haven at control point INDEPENDENCE. On this weekend the RBMN had prepared their classy F units, previously owned by Norfolk Southern on their office car specail train to pull the weekend trips. Enjoy!

I'm from Connecticut and I remember going to a DOWT event here with my mom and my brother and sister when i was little. I think i was around 2 or 3 years old and even though i absolutely loved it, seeing Thomas up close scared the living daylights out of me!!!! It was very overwhelming!!!! But i still loved the event as a whole!!!! Me and my brother are now 22 and while he's grown out of it, i am still a HUGE fan to this day and i always will be!!!! T&F is my 2nd favorite franchise alongside Power Rangers!!!! 💙💙👍👍🎉🎉

Is anyone able to fill me in as to why the crew uses two different whistles? Is it just whichever one they feel like using or is there a purpose?
The actual use of having two separate whistles is that the hooter was used when the locomotive pulled freight, and the 6 chime was used for when the locomotive pulled passengers. Though, during the rambles, you’ll often see that they both get used. Not much a reason behind that other than just for the hell of it.
I first rode behind 2102 in 1976, it was set up for two whistles back then. I like the Rdg Banshee freight whistle over the Rdg passenger whistle.

Imagine if Susquehanna 142 return to the Connecticut valley railroad and double headed with 3025
Southern Railway 4501 is a 2-8-2 Mikado too, but she’s over 100 years old. But 3025 still has some good years left ahead of her. She should still be running.
3025 would be 35 years old. But she looks older than she really is. That sets this locomotive apart from all the other surviving steam locomotives. There are other locomotives that are in their seventies and eighties and even their hundreds.
