I have a Mercedes gle 350.I am thinking of changing it. I want to do the same, I don't think we should buy a new 550.In the 460 I have a 8 cylinder engine without turbines, I like it very much, the exterior designof 460 is much better then 550 for me.

The poly bushings deff tend to squeak, I’m not sure if you replaced control arms and now have poly bushings

Hey I noticed you got a Jurassic Park front license plate, In the Jurassic Park book, They used Land Cruisers instead of Explorers. The T Rex Attacked a Land Cruiser and tossed it around, They really spared no expense, the Gx is a Land Cruiser Prado so it makes sense to have that plate and it ties in well with Jurassic park

Thanks for your insight on the differences between the 4 runner pro and your modified GX. I’m sure a bunch of us GX owners out here are curious on what a lift ,bigger tires would change about the ride quality of the GX.

I just got a 23 new last week amazingly. I drove the 550 and it just basically does not compare. It’s incredibly louder and shutters laterally side to side when hitting bumps. The interior feels much cheaper and less substantial like try leaning your knee into the door panel and watch the whole thing depress and oh wait do that with the center consul and it moves over to. clearly nowhere near an upgrade.

That rear door is what made me go with the 4runner

I think the rear is attractive, the front not so much. If you change to larger than stock tires, then of course your GX will read a slower speed and say it is getting a lower mpg than actual. The stock tire size on the GX460, and what the odometer and computer expects, is 265/60-18 tires which have an overall diameter of 30.5 inches. Let's say that you changed to 33 inch diameter tires. That means you are really traveling 8.2% faster and further than the GX is telling you. If the odometer is saying you are going 60 mph then you are really traveling at 65 mph (compare your odometer to what google maps says). So when the GX says you traveled 280 miles, you actually went 303 miles. If it says you are getting 17 mpg you are really getting 18.4 mpg. Yes, the mpg is reduced by installing larger tires, but it isn't reduced as much as the GX is saying. The other issue with larger tires is you are messing with your gear ratios. When you have a V8 like the the GX it can handle it. But if you take a 6 cylinder normally aspirated 4Runner, change to a larger than stock tire size, and then go up Colorado mountains then the automatic transmission is going to miscalculate.

GX460 is a great rig. Much better than the 4Runner IMO. We’ve stuck with the LX570. Our 2011 is starting to show its age, but it’s still a beast.

The V8 and full time 4WD is what does it for me. I love both tho. I have a 08 limited v8 4Runner so it’s a little in between both lol

That 4 Runner look ruggeds and sharp. The GX just looks chubby and goofy looking.

My 4 Runner can do what the Lexus GX 460 does at half the cost for my purpose. The 4Runner premium package is enough "luxury" for me.

Classic, love the classical music and the guns with the evaluation, I own a 5th gen 4R. Happy owner of a 4R for the past 10 years. Getting a land cruiser next, but I appreciate the gx. Cheers 🍻

I'm from Philly and retire young. I moved too southern new mexico. Its hard to explain how big this playground is out here. You are on point about the different of wheeling. My point is, if your going to enjoy the back country. Get the right equipment. It is very remote out here. Safety is reliabley . 4runner pro is my choice for this reason. Little advice. Give all your new mods a good shake down. And a satelite phone is a must. Shit happens. Be safe and have fun.

Back to the nail in the tire, I don't off road, but my guess is roads are higher risk, because humans! Off road is nature, which unless you're slamming over big jagged sharp rocks, you're safer driving responsibly on natural surfaces.

Its not paranoid to carry. Theres no cell reception and you are in the wilderness where you have absolutely no idea who else is out there. If anything, you need to carry more ammunition. Not so long ago, every single man in utah that went out into the wild was armed with multiple guns and knives. Being american means we have the right to be armed.
