I just thought of something: do you think the developers of this game went to this mode a lot during testing? It seems like this is the most polished aspect of the game, and that might be for a reason. Anyone who’s anyone knows that the development process for this game wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, and I don’t envy Sonic Team in the situation they were put in. So to take their mind off things, they built a simple, relaxing minigame with Big the Cat allowing Sonic to fish to take his mind off things. In a way, this might’ve allowed the developers to take their minds off of things and relax, no longer needing to worry about the deadline that was coming at them at a speed not even Sonic could match. But with their minds preoccupied, they were allowed to let their nerves relax, effectively resetting the general tension in the group. And they eventually realized that this could allow the players to relax as well, and after a bit of polishing up, they put it into the game proper, allowing the players to experience the same relaxing atmosphere the developers made for themselves in this troubled time. EDIT: I should specify that this isn’t confirmed to be what happened, it’s just my speculation.

It's me or the staccato notes at 0:05 sound too quiet? Same goes for the bells. I also think the new organ synth sounds less menacing than the original pipe organ. The new measures they added are cool, however.
