Hi I'm Darren Burke and most people know me as The Caterham Coach because I specialise in coaching Caterham drivers.
I have over 16 years experience with Caterham race cars including:
* 200+ days on track each year with Caterham drivers across every series such as Caterham Motorsport, Graduates and 7 Race Series
* Coaching the Chief Executive of Caterham Cars and many of their staff, from Academy through to 420R (now known as Sevens UK)
* Helping many celebrity drivers such as Chris Hoy and James Walker, to be more competitive in the initial Caterham Academy series
* Testing for Caterham Motorsport to improve car setup and handling
* Developing tyre compounds with Avon Tyres specifically for use on Caterham cars
* Exclusive driver coach for DPR Motorsports during race weekends
* Spending countless hours simulator training and setting new lap records to help drivers competing in iRacing and CaterhamRacer.com

The telemetry feels a bit unclear, would you mind elaborating on which corners you had to brake on and which you just came off the accelerator on?
I don't see you necessarily avoiding the rubbered up racing line; is that not practical as the track is ran in both directions, so all of the track is rubbered up?

Hi. This was the standard compound Avon zzr.
Thanks - just spent a great 4-days at Spa for the first time with TFLRacing. Phil had great things to say about you (I mentioned this video). Stylistically, our driving is similar and this lap was very helpful. Based on MPH, it seems you may have had a tail-wind up through Kemmel, and a head-wind through Blanchimont.

Hi Darren, I was also comparing with the Ben Clucas lap - just realised he is running slicks. You change gear so fast, it's almost as if you're using a sequential gearbox! Wondered if you have any comments on the differences between your lap and Ben's? (
What is the reason for dabbing the brake quickly while still accelerating as you come to each braking zone?
I asked myself the same question, and my best guess is to pre-heat or clean the brakes.

For me the impressive part isn't the fastest lap. Its the way you progressed to this point within a few laps. That is another level 🚀🏎

Just searching wet laps, you think the wet line will work around Donington now its re-surfaced ? I'm there tomorrow in pouring rain by the looks of it. But seeing as its only ran in december since the surface im wondering how rubbered up or polished the actual dry line will be. Suck it and see i guess

@@murdomac22 Dry line was quickest in the wet seeing as the surface was the same across the whole width. I’d imagine it’s worn enough now to see the difference between wet and dry lines. Haven’t been since then ☝️

It’s not unfortunately. On the Avon zzr. The championship this car runs in isn’t allowed to use slicks.

Hi, is this a 310?
Hi. It’s a caterham roadsport. 125bhp. Soft road going suspension, windscreen, lights etc. a road spec caterham. 310 is 155bhp, wide track, stiff suspension etc. I have a 310r video for knockhill clockwise on my channel as well. Thanks.

Great driving… Probably a stupid question but why do you tap your brakes lightly before hitting the actual braking zone?
Hi! Thanks! Common to get what is called pad knock offs where the brake pads move away from the discs after bouncing over curbs. So a little tap of the brake pedal ensures the pads are primed, therefore reducing brake travel and improving brake efficiency/consistency. 👍🏼

Is the brake pad movement common in all Caterhams (ie should I be aiming to do the brake tap in the academy car do you think)?

So a 420r on slicks I can creep into the 1.58 on a good day. R400 more like 210bhp and zzr extreme same compound as the click but a tad slower due to the tread pattern. 1.58/59 easily possible. Yeh this is geoffs car.

I'm confused. According to Caterham Motorsport Lap Records best laptime there is 1:22.685, which was set this summer. Did you just casually go faster a year ago ? Or is there some twist ?
Well tidy! & fast 👏🏻 I did 1:18 on my first visit... in a 220hp r400... on soft compound zzr's. So I'm guessing I've got some time to find 🤔😅
Not a bad first visit!! R400 and zzr extreme should be 1.11.
