DIY Campaign Sign Tomato Cage: Can It Be Done!?
One thing we can say about election season here in the South…candidates take their campaign signs pretty seriously! And that usually means, hundreds, if not thousands, of roadside signs quite literally “littering” the highways, yards, right-of-ways, public spaces and anywhere else an open spot might happen to be. It’s one of my least favorite parts of the process!
Nevertheless, every cloud has a silver lining! And today’s unexpected reward comes in the form of making DIY Tomato Cages out of these metal sign frames! Or so we hope! 🙂
Join us today as we make a homemade Tomato Cage out of a handful of discarded campaign signs, along with a couple of dollars worth of zip ties.
And if you’re as excited as we are about this, then be sure to grab a set of plans here (applevalleyfarmga.com/product/1003512) or via the link below so you can make your own.
Enjoy!

When it comes to the world of 1990s baseball cards, it’s just hard to beat the quality of O Pee Chee. One of the frustrating parts of ripping into vintage packs is the lack of quality control during that period. Lots of dinged corners. Lots of printing spots and such. But you just don’t see that kind of foolishness with our favorite Canadian card company, O Pee Chee. We just got in a whole box ...

Even with brand new sports cards, right out of the pack, mistakes happen. Corners get dinged. Edges get miscut. Printing gets sloppy. And in the old wax packs, the dreaded gum stains have ruined many an otherwise elegant card. In the past, I would’ve just chalked that card up as a loss and tossed or given it away. Can you share exactly what i should buy at the hardware store in terms of wood. I’m going to have them cut them while I’m there

    • @AppleValleyFarmGA
      @AppleValleyFarmGA Před 3 dny

      Sure. Although, one, this is all dependent on the dimensions of your tray. And two, since I made this with reclaimed wood, the width of the boards could be different as well. Having said that this is what I would suggest: 6 boards, 21" long, totalling 7.5" high, when stacked together. Then 6 more boards like this, 12" long each. Finally, 2 boards, 21" long (any width) for the bottom. That's not a lot of instruction, but I hope it helps you. Thanks!

    • @AppleValleyFarmGA
      @AppleValleyFarmGA Před 2 měsíci

      Oh yes. You'll always need to stir your stain. Shaking it is better than nothing, but stirring is best. Just use a paint stirrer stick...you'll see why when you scrape the bottom. All that pigment settles down there. That should make a huge difference.

    I am really struggling man. I watched all these videos on rusting galvanized metal. Looks like it's super easy process so I bough 100 sheets and wanted to use it as siding for a garage. But here I am and doing exactly what everyone else does and nothing. Just turns chalky white. Then nothing will take it to the next step of rust. I just can't figure this out. Driving me bonkers because I spent a lot of money. Anyhow, that's my story.

Then just cut and thread your own. Those pre cut small sections are normally priced at double or even more than a whole stick would be collectively.

    The clamps hold the router in place, yet what of ensuring straight cuts (never used a router before but am getting one soon) - are you routing into the wood straight down the line by your own eye or can you push the wood against the round bit on top without cutting it and which must mean that the cutting element is lower down nearer the shank? If I can do some routing without the requirement of a table then this is preferable due to space restrictions, while the above would be useful to know as accurate cutting will be necessary.
