Steer Wrestling with a GOPRO Week #2
Here are some more runs from this past week at the OC ranch. The first run I made the mistake of leaning back and not getting the nose deep, which, as you can see led to me losing the steer.

I agree. His son will be a champion! An he has learned from his dad! Just wished they could be more humble an not so showboat! But I get it a crowd pleaser thing!! But half the man half the horse! An hour only as good as the horse you ride. Just another tool in the shed to get your job done!!

It seems we live in a society where the actual competition is secondary, or even of little concern. It is now more about what people today will call "personality", when in reality it is one desperately seeking attention. Weird bleached jeans, corn rows in his hair, and all the antics are clearly done for attention. It is funny how on the runs where he simply tipped his hat, I actually marveled at the run, while on the others I marveled at how ridiculous he looking jumping and yelling after his run. A rodeo cowboy's ride or run speaks for itself. I rode bulls for a few years in the IPRA, and it never once entered my mind that I should jump around and yell after a good ride. I have seen JB Mauney, Ty Murray, Trevor Brazile and many others just let their ride or run speak for itself. And please don't tell me "Sid is just passionate." The cowboys I mentioned, as well as many others, are every bit as "passionate" as Sid. If they were not passionate they would not have won multiple titles. They just don't have that desperate need for attention. This is what makes rodeo so refreshing compared to the major professional sports which have been greatly diminished with all the "look-at-me" attitudes.

That didn’t hurt the horse, the horse was a huge asset, the horse had to keep his head “straight” had he not stayed focused they both could have been hurt really, really bad?

Sid was far before his time and the western world was not ready for him. He marched to beat of his own drum and wasn’t much for following rules and fined quite often by the PRCA.

We were hog hunting their place outside of Bastrop a few weeks prior to this NFR and at 3:30a we saw the arena lights still on at Sid's place and went there to see Sid still running steer and practicing. No telling how many he ran that night. Well deserved and well earned championship

First, that's the greatest clinic ever filmed of how it's done correctly. Trust one who knows his hard work and dreams are coming true with a good portion of the western world watching, he is thrilled and the world knows it. It takes 10 long days to take the hardest test of one's life.

Hi Barbara. I don't think he's angry, at all. As a former competitive athlete, with a fair degree of certainty I can tell you that is the rush of adrenaline coursing through EVERY fiber in him is immeasurable. Can you imagine the overwhelming excitement of sliding off the perfectly fine horse you were riding to grab hold of a bull, by the horns no less, and maneuver to bring it down to the ground with nothing but the strength and force of your own body and the sharpness of a mind processing the danger of the act in the space of only a few seconds at that??? In addition, there is the skill necessary to will a horse to ride up beside a bull and his horns racing beside it and the rider dismounts directly onto the bull. There is something very primal in the very nature of rodeo that speaks to the heart, the emotions, and the will to survive using instinct AND expertise. The reaction, having completed the task...or even made the attempt, is also very primal...modern day gladiator. Man vs. beast. Grit and determination...I admire it and respect it. I hope this lends some perspective from a different angle.
