We got three mini splits that we've had for several years. We just added three more in the den, living room, and office but we rarely turn those on. When it's hot we often hibernate in our bedrooms. We use them 99% for A/C. We have a gas heater for now that we only run from 6 to 9 a.m. in the cold months. We have 3.5 KW of solar that we've had for 21 years. The problem is when we would like heat, the sun is not shining as much. We are just too used to having a negative electric bill. Hard to use the mini splits for heat when it could put our electric bill in the positive side.

I would like to know this, too. I have my 2-3 ton set in 2 ton mode. The condenser draws 1500-1800W depending on how hot it is. I thought it would go lower, like 1000W.

  • @USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity

I put a small bead of clear silicone around the perimeter, because if you don’t, you’ll be sucking in dirt for the next 10 to 15 years. Look at your old ones when you remove them and see how dirty the backside of the unit is. It’s easy to take a razor and cut it loose if you need to work on it. When you reinstall it that nice clean cut seals up again.

Finally, a clear explanation. It's similar to Pulse Width Modulation. Some manufacturer put on their comressors 100-360VDC and 40-120Hz. I would ask them to draw the graph for me, which would reflect 100VDC 100Hz. How a sine wave could be called a "direct current" or how the straight DC could have any frequency. As soon as DC gets any frequency, it becomes AC.
