      I'm sure it was amazing Mike. Couple more questions when you have a moment... I dream of visiting Thailand and New Zealand. I'm wondering how easy/hard it is to tour if you're completely foreign to the driving, language, culture, weather, hazards, etc. Renting a bike would be another concern (safe, reliable, support if broken down). Based on all these uncertainties are there any organized "Touring Companies" you can recommend in Thailand or NZ? Probably expensive, but I like the idea of be led by a local and enjoy a group ride. Sounds like you may have done something similar in NZ, but I suspect you shipped your bike. Nothing like the comfort and confidence of having your own bike when touring! :) PS. I just subscribed to your Channel. Richard

    • @mikefreeriderAsia
      @mikefreeriderAsia Před 2 měsíci

      @@Richard-dh8ny to be honest Thailand is quite easy to travel and you can rent bikes in many places. Cost of rental can be very reasonable depending on the motorcycle you choose. I do some private tours and use the CRF 250 which is nice and easy and convenient and you can ride less travelled roads. There is a series that I did with Gilles and we rode a month together, just the 2 of us . You can contact me on my email address at mikeggs@msn.com. Regarding New Zealand I was on a Honda Sponsored trip for a week so I used a NC750X manual. Since that trip I became good friends with many Kiwis who have come many times to Thailand riding with me , many videos of our trips together.Tours there for sure are more expensive.i don't have any specific touring companies to recommend.

    • @mikefreeriderAsia
      @mikefreeriderAsia Před 3 měsíci

      First of all thank you for watching, now certain countries are quite easy to travel in like Thailand where I don't even use the steering lock and no one seems to bother with the motorcycle.in Laos it is quite safe as well, Malaysia need to be a little bit more careful in the hotels will typically provide some area that is secured for parking and that's what we would request when we book. Vietnam we typically cover the bikes at night in a secured parking. But in Asia compared to America or Europe it is a much safer place to ride motorcycles. In my home I keep the keys in my motorcycle, not many places in the world you could do that.. In China people tend to want to sit on a motorcycle without asking and it's very annoying what Chinese people think it's normal to sit on somebody else's bike. Until I tell them otherwise!!!!!! So at night we put covers on the bikes.

    Currently Considering getting an X-Adv, What would be your tips for this? Like reliability, traffic filtering, fuel consumption and offroad worthiness. IS there anything that constantly needs attention parts wise? and how is the STOCK lighthing for night rides? HOW comfy is the pillion as I pretty much always ride with one. Sorry for asking a lot but I just cant find any dealership nearby "and far" that has one on display for me to check out.

    • @mikefreeriderAsia
      @mikefreeriderAsia Před 4 měsíci

      Well I will try to answer as best I can. For filtering in traffic it's a little bit on the wide side especially if you add panniers. Fuel consumption is exactly the same as the nc750x, and actually it's almost the same motorcycle except for different fairings!! Comfort for a pillion is excellent, the bike has lots of wind protection. I know that they've shown videos that it's an off-road motorcycle, but from my experience I did do some off-road what was not comfortable due to the amount of plastics on the bike and if you drop it even with the crash bars repairs are generally expensive. I always add lights on all my motorcycle as I actually like to ride at night and the stock lighting is just adequate at best. I eventually sold mine, I prefer the NC for my purposes as it's more off-road capable but I also have a CRF 300 rally which is great for those more challenging off-road situations. But if I was only touring most likely I would have stuck with the x-adv Thanks for watching and ride safe

    Wow, you are getting good at this, that editing is great Mike! Very, beautiful video! Must feel awkward sometimes being a few occidental folks and visiting such back Countries, must feel like you are far from home sometimes...But I see the passion in all of this, which makes it so awesome to watch you guys! Well I appreciate the comments and thank you for watching. That video almost took me a month to edit because sometimes you take 2 hours to add it down to 10 min , I have one more to do in this series. This country Laos beautiful country but lacks infrastructure and the roads are not getting better they're getting worse, a little bit like Quebec!!! Ha ha ha

      Well the quality video is also a direct result from all the great pictures that you took and I really appreciate them. The last video will be short with some great footage in the mountains on the Kazi pass . When I start looking at these videos, we were on some pretty amazing places. Thanks for your support

    Great video Mike! How many KM’s on the NC750 now?

      There was an NC on this trip , but for this trip I used my CRF rally 300 and for me it was a better choice due to the conditions in Laos. My NC is still going strong with 275,000 KM and thank you for watching

    Thanks for sharing! It looks like a real adventure with all the different nature and sites to view! What motor bikes wher you all driving on this trip?

    • @mikefreeriderAsia
      @mikefreeriderAsia Před 5 měsíci

      It was a real mixed bag, 2 Honda CRF 300 Rally, 2 CRF 250l , 2 kawa versy 300, 1 Honda Africa twin, 1 KTM 690, 1 NC750X, and 1 Bmw800. The roads are pretty terrible in Laos generally so the CRF is really a good bike for these conditions. Thanks for watching

      @@mikefreeriderAsiaThanks for the prompt answer! I guess the CRF 250/300 and even the Versys 300 had good enough power, ground clerance and handling for that kind of mixed roads?

    • @mikefreeriderAsia
      @mikefreeriderAsia Před 5 měsíci

      @@Oggiwara1 as you might know I already have a NC 750X which I have ridden all over Laos, what does CRF is so much lighter and nimble, and with the large 21-inch front tire makes it a much smoother ride. You could ride any bike in Laos, I just find it much easier on the CRF and a lot more fun.

    Thank you for taking the time to go to this lima site 85 and sharing your clips. See, I was born at the foot of this mountain, on the north side. The steps are on the south side. CIA lost it to Pathet Lao in 1968. The local people who sided with the CIA had to flee as a result of the fight. Hundreds if not thousands of people who fled from this place have now lived in America. I have been in the States for 37 years and returned to visit this site a month ago. It sure was a historical place.

      Well thank you for sharing your experience, this mountain is not just beautiful but very sacred in my opinion. I have been there twice now and likely return again has the view is quite spectacular. Thanks for watching and Laos is a beautiful country.
