Let’s discuss how you can invest more in 5 years than most do in 50. Today i’m going to share a 5 step processing on optimising your investment portfolio to ensure you reach your investment goals. I started investing in the stock market back in 2017, and right now my total investment portfolio value sits at just over £165,000. Today, I wanted to teach you the principles on how I made it possible, and how you can do the same.

(Dont want a 3 or a Y for cargo space & depreciation reasons) My current car is a heap of crap 2008 honda suv I bought for £1500 to be reliable as hell whilst I paid off my debts but i cant stand driving it any longer. Any advice is appreciated. (Id be spending most of my savings as a fat deposit for the model S)

    • @MitchShoesmith
      @MitchShoesmith Před 17 hodinami

      Hey! First off it’s great to hear you’re doing so well and have also got out of that much debt in such a short space of time, huge kudos to you! Regarding car purchases, I’ve never bought electric so not too clued up on that market, but the principles I tend to follow are: 1. Don’t buy new, always buy 2-4 years old so somebody else pays a chunk of depreciation for you. 2. Financing - with current interest rates I suspect a personal loan on a car could be upwards of 8%. When I bought my car I decided to get a cheaper car but pay cash so I didn’t need a loan for it. If interest rates were like 3-4%, I’d probably have a different view as you could invest the money and probably get a higher rate of return to offset the interest. 3. Do what makes you happy & feels sensible - we can all be super financially responsible, but i do believe in a balance that life needs to be lived too. Even if buying a new/expensive car might not be the most optimal financial decision. I bought a Lotus Elise a couple of years back, it wasn’t cheap but man I get more joy out of it than having the money sat in my bank account doing nothing. You sound like you know what you’re doing financially so I think you’ll know the answer ☺️

      @@MitchShoesmith So the model S is a 2020 model as they stopped making rhd S&X’s (uk doesnt get the plaid) this one was 130k new. I’m more so worried that I shouldnt be making such a huge car purchase without owning a house first however, once a house is bought a hell of a lot of my finances will be taken up in mortgage payments & upkeep not allowing me to have the car i want if that makes sense. Thanks for your advice

    • @davideyres955
      @davideyres955 Před 14 hodinami

      @@iCozzhit dosnt make sense. If you can’t afford the car after you’ve bought a house then you can’t afford the car before you’ve bought a house. Given the house is a much bigger financial investment that will go up in price the more you delay you’d be far better off forgetting about the Tesla for now. Remember that the depreciation on electric cars is very large and you have the possibility of battery replacement within 6-7 years if you follow the advice of the chap here you could be throwing money into a black hole and left with effectively a scrap vehicle after 6 years. Sounds like you have a lot of income so prioritise your house purchase and weigh up paying down the mortgage vs investing. Remember that Loan to value has an impact on loan costs and upcoming political changes could skew the market drastically. Personally I have experience of losing my job and being close to losing the house twice so I prioritised paying down the mortgage when the interest rates were low leaving me with a £20 per month repayment for years. I’m debt free and paying a large chunk into my pension and have maxed out my ISA for two years running. Could retire in a couple of years but have more investment planned.

    • @iCozzh
      @iCozzh Před 14 hodinami

      @@davideyres955 The cars finance would roughly be half of its value, i can blitz the payment within a year. It's obvious that the UK gov want self-investors to buy UK stocks rather than global or US stocks. So the 5K British ISA is attractive for anyone in UK wanting to buy individual UK company shares and maybe also those higher income tax bracket investors that want to take dividends every month. Everyone else won't use it because even with a 10/20% CGT penalty, non-UK stocks are better performing. Maybe another idea would be an additional 20K UK ISA for holding UK dividend-paying stocks/funds only? e.g. IUKD gives approx 10% growth and approx 4-5% div. Maybe there could be new UK ETFs that would qualify.

    Stamp duty on shares should be ditched 😊 it doesn't bring in that much😊 we already pay way too much in taxes😊

    Fair play to you mate. Just one word of caution, don't repeat don't panic when your portfolio falls and I mean falls a lot over a long period. You start off saying "its ok I can take it" then after you have lost 29% over 8 months and there is no sign of the markets turning and everything is gloom, do NOT despair! There are always ups and downs and sometimes the downs are long, deep and painful. The sign of a mature and steadfast investor is to put MORE in when markets are performing badly. Yes you read that right. Good luck.

    Jezza (Jeremy Hunt) is only Chancellor in name now, Rachel Reeves is the Chancellor in waiting. Labour will hold a budget in the autumn; there's no obvious need for Labour to hold a post election Budget as their main aims are stability and a summer Budget is just more instability.

    When Chancellors talk about "people investing into UK markets", they're not talking about retail investors, they're talking about industrial titans.

    • @MitchShoesmith
      @MitchShoesmith Před dnem

      Hey! Yeh I tend to agree with that sentiment, but with the proposal of the British ISA whilst the bulk of money comes from institutional investors, there is obviously some thought behind encouraging retail investors to invest in UK equities too

    • @OneAndOnlyMe
      @OneAndOnlyMe Před dnem

      @@MitchShoesmith Yes, and for retail investors, sticking to index funds is the best move because there is no real way for retail investors to know where to put their money to benefit from abstract government incentives. Government roadmaps tend to focus around the legislation and regulatory frameworks to help sectors, institutional investors have the resources to undertake the impact analysis and then issue guidance to the markets around specific companies that may benefit from proposed legislation etc.

    It really is astonishing what can be done from watching this. I am late to the game at 39. My plan is 25 years of investing from now. I just started my ISA stocks with 1k VUSA and 1K VWRL. I might toy around with a few individual stocks. Not much. Do you think I should continue with both or focus on VUSA more?

    Yup wish this was taught in school when I was a kid (eons ago). However if it was, within a couple of decades, everyone would have retired by the time they were in the 30's 🙂. If it was implemented now, governments would have to figure out a completely new way to get their taxes (maybe get it from the AI robots 😂)

    Taxes are already too high in this country the between Westminster and local government nearly £1 trillion is collected where is it going? The government is simply inefficient and needs to close tax loopholes to ensure the wealthiest are paying their fair share in taxes.

    I suspect (and I hope they are not watching this) that they will put a tax on the employers contributions into your pension. It’s not you paying, won’t cost the employers anything but it will bugger your retirement. Most people probably won’t notice it now but when they get to their retirement date (whichever century that is in) they’ll have a lot less than they thought they would have.

    Why would I consider buying UK stocks and be penalised with a 0.5% stamp duty tax, each time I buy?

    • @clarkeysam
      @clarkeysam Před 2 dny

      Because 0.5% as a one off charge is basically irrelevant. It has a negligible impact at all. And given that the UK has massively under performed in recent years, it could be argued that stocks are currently cheap and therefore could be set to grow quicker than elsewhere.
