BLOCH, the global talking stick is multidisciplinary art project created by the Swiss artist duo Com&Com. At the heart of this unique multidisciplinary, interactive project is a large tree trunk connected to an ancient, annual carnival tradition from the Swiss region of Appenzell.
When the last spruce tree is felled in the winter, the trunk -- known as the Bloch -- is pulled by twenty men from the village of Urnäsch to Herisau and back. At the end of this one-day procession, the trunk is sold to the highest bidder in the village square of Urnäsch to be processed into shingles or furniture.
In the past, the Bloch has been purchased at the auction by one of the locals to be put to practical use (as material for furniture or shingles, for example.) But in 2011, the buyers were the Swiss artist duo Com&Com. Now the artists plan to give the trunk a new role: instead of simply traveling the relatively short distance between the two villages before ending up as building material, the Bloch will travel the world, stopping on every continent.
So far, Bloch was in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. At the end of this journey, the trunk will return back to its starting point in Urnäsch, Switzerland.
The goal is to develop a new Bloch procession at each station based on local traditions. In the process, the original custom and its meaning will change, enter into a dialogue with foreign cultures and people, mix with new elements, and be reinterpreted. At every stage of the journey, something completely new will emerge. This art event will be accompanied by discussions (talks, symposia) and other cultural and social events (exhibits, festivals, music, theater), as well as individual artworks, short films, and a website.

Bravo! Bravo!
Was für eine alberne Provinzposse 🙄 Der Mocmoc ist ein drolliges Kerlchen, bringt Leben und Farbe in die triste Umgebung des Romanshorner Bahnhofs und war vermutlich das erste wirklich innovative, was da seit langem stattgefunden hatte. Und seit Jahre ist auch nicht mehr wirklich viel mehr geschehen, Romanshorn ist leider ein ziemlich unattraktive Städchen. Der Konditor, der Mocmocs aus Schokolade hergestellt hat, hat leider altershalber aufgehört und keinen Nachfolger gefunden. Ich war auf der Suche nach der Geschichte dieser lustigen Statue vor dem Bahnhof, und nun stosse ich auf ein Portrait von lauter Betonköpfe. Lasst den Mocmoc wo er ist, und stellt noch dreissig andere Klickklock und Blobblob daneben, vermarktet ihn endlich richtig, vielleicht wird Romanshorn dann endlich ein schönerer und bunterer Lebensort, nicht so abgewrackt wie heutzutage...

This is a masterpiece : Mocmoc and Mermer have some of the best character-dynamic between two protagonists in cinematographic history since Andy Dufresne and Ellis Boyd Redding. The camera work seems to be from someone of the likes of Lubezki or Storaro. Simply magnificent! How much money would I have to fundraise for there to be an Episode 2? Sincerely A new fan.

Ich find den MocMoc sehr lustig und die Aktion hervorragend. Ich hätte nie von Romanshorn gehört, wenn ich nicht auf der Suche nach "Denkmal - Aufbau - Kunst" auf diese Doku gestoßen wäre. Schade, dass viele Leute einfach keinen Humor haben. Und wenn man mal ins Publikum schaut bei der Podiumsdiskussion: Lauter graue Köpfe. Die Zukunft sind aber die Kinder. Und die finden ihn wohl "herzig!". Und - nein - ich finde das keinen "Schildbürgerstreich" und ich finde auch nicht, dass Romanshorn irgendein Schaden entstanden ist. Ich finde die ganze Aktion auch "herzig"!
