Organ Media Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization chartered to encourage and help those who seek to share the art and music of the classical organ in its many forms through the use of both traditional and emerging media forms. As technology becomes an increasing part of our daily lives, we want to ensure that the organ continues to be heard, not only in our churches and concert halls, but everywhere around the world. The music of the organ often speaks to us from a different time and age, and so we must work to ensure that its musical voice continues to sound through the channels our modern world provides. It is the goal of the foundation to bring the labors of those that work to create and recreate the music of the organ to a willing, listening, and watching world. Through our work we hope that the music of the organ will continue to inspire as it has for so many centuries. Visit our website to support our efforts and find out about our other projects. www.organmedia.org

An amazing instrument!
What is the piece played in the background, starting at 1:21, as they make their way to the organ loft?
I was Dr. Barland’s organ student when this was installed! Got to be the first student to play a recital on it! Such an amazing instrument.
This is a truly phenomenal organ donation in so many ways. Unfortunately I live in the UK.
Love the ophicleide
Are all the pipes on the outside on their own pipe chamber?
Demonstration in C !
Dear Brent Johnson & Organ Media Foundation, historians, and associates: Your episode that was released two weeks ago titled, "2019 Reuter - Wicks - Tellers/Sommerhoff Organ - Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, Iowa" has a spelling error in the title. Tellers-Sommerhof Organ Company was named after the three founders. Brothers, Henry & Ignatius Tellers and business partner, William A. Sommerhof. They cofounded Tellers Organ Company in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1906 and the name was changed in 1911 to Tellers-Sommerhof Organ Company. As artists, they were proud to put their name on the organs that they built. It would be more historically accurate and more factual to properly spell the name of the organ company which you are featuring. According to the original signed contract document, Tellers-Sommerhof Organ Co. built their organ No. 75 for St. Francis Church, Dyersville, Iowa. The contract was signed Dec. 21, 1912 Per: Henry Tellers, Pres. W.A. Sommerhof, Secy. Rev. Theo Warning, Rector St. Francis Church, Dyersville, IA. Sincerley, Aaron M. Tellers Source: Tellers Organ Company/A.B.Felegemaker Archives Henry C. Tellers Estate, Erie, PA. Courtesy: Aaron M. Tellers
Brent will have to come to our open house which I think is scheduled sometime in October at our new shop, we should be moving in around the first week of Sept finally! It was nostalgic seeing the components I made all installed and in use- ladders, shades, walkboards, wood pipes, swell box enclosures, floror frames, and hear what it sounds like for the first time all voiced and tuned! Yes, it was St James in Sydney who stuck by us while their organ was started over again from scratch in temporary shop spaces, they just had their dedication yesterday in fact and it's on youtube.
Thanks for all your good work! I may be mistaken by the sound of the recording, but from what I hear in this excellent presentation, the Dobson has a major advantage over many other organs I've heard presented here. There are a few special-purpose ranks that are indeed very powerful, but on the whole, it appears less to be an instrument with loud and soft stops, but an ensemble of ranks of more or less the same intensity. I find that so much more satisfying to listen to, and it makes, in my ears, for a much more complex and interesting ensemble.
This is a very nice instrument! I hope that Dobson recovers well from the tragic fire that hit its facility!
We have , thank you
What was the song that was played during the walk to the console? I would love to learn that arrangment
This was a wonderful program!
Why no 3 rank pedal mixture for some independent brightness?
It's plenty bright enough.
I wouldn’t exactly say big tubas are rare on church organs, otherwise it’s a nice instrument
would love to hear reginald porter brown tuba tune on this organ
that looks like a 4- manual with a missing bottom manual
No offense, but some of the pipes in the organ need to be tuned. Not the celestes tho.
Horrible sounding organ
Really superb organ. If anything would improve it I would say an independent 16 foot Pedal Reed (Trombone)
I attended Daniel Roth's 30th anniversary recital. which he shared with Mme Choplin. They played a duet on the main and choir organs. I was sitting roughly halfway between the two instruments, and the final full chord was the most wonderful sound I have heard from any organs in my 60 years of playing. Not a hint of harshness and a perfect blend and balance. Miraculous!
The Organ at my church was originally E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings Op. 691 from 1873. It underwent a restoration by Bates & Culley in 1900 and again by Grubb Bros. in 1991. There are no records on the Pipe Organ Database of the 1973 move, but there are original records of where the organ originally resided. And we don't know how much of the 33 ranks is original at the moment. Unfortunately the organ stopped working in 1999 and has since gone into disrepair and hasn't been used. I am attempting to begin a restoration project with the parish (Roman Catholic). Would anyone have advice on how to raise funds or go about such a project?
What a wonderful 👏 organ. I believe and bet that this organ appears in Boston Third stage album cover and the album protection sleeve too.
wonderful video and demostration.. and great narrators
Two weeks in a row, another anomaly, a perfect "case study" of an organ positioned in a free-standing case in the center of the balcony. Church architects and organ builders should take notice. PS. what happened to praestant8, that person had great commentary.
Nice final demo with a good build to the Tutti! I am a lover of the A-S organs. I visited the St. John Cathedral in Spokane WA and during the prelude, quickly deduced that it was an A-S. I was right! Amazing find way up there.
I like it when organ pipes are terraced. I'm just fascinated by that specific layout!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The console is in a French style design which is really nice!
It is obvious why it has never been replace, while it is small, the selection of sounds and the way they are voiced is lovely. Just enough without being too much.
Brent and Andrew make such a beautiful duo because they know how to valorise every stop and everything about the organ itself. That melodia is really a wonderful stop
I love your channel and look forward to each new post. This organ has amazing, full bodied tone in every division. The church is exquisitely beautiful, uplifting, otherworldly. Its architecture, decoration, stained glass, etc, direct one's thoughts to eternity, and eternity's God. My heart is sad that this is no longer a place of Catholic worship. Event centers are nice. Bringing community together is generally a good thing. However, I feel that using this sacred space as an event center is a tragedy, bordering on sacrilege. Thank you to those who saved it, but shame on the diocese who let it go.😢
I recognize those chests. Can’t think of his name, but he was the predecessor of Lima pipe organs Holy Cross Brothers.
That lady organist doesn't seem to be friendly what-so-ever! My guess is, because she doesn't wear any makeup, she probably doesn't carry a purse and her REAL job is either construction or electrical or plumbing work.
Andrew is great! Brent, you should hire him to go to all the organ venues!
Couldn't agree more!
What a fascinating re-use of the space! Glad the organ's preservation is a part of it. :)
Sounds like the 4pr, 12th, 15th have been brightened and the mix lost its tierce.
Another Hook! 👏👏👏
I have to agree with Andrew, That 4' Harmonic Flute on the Swell is the star of this particular organ. It has the perfect amount of treble ascendancy and articulation. I think this organ despite having some finicky tuning issues and some stoplist changes might be one of the more overlooked pipe organs in the state of Iowa.
I look forward to your organ demonstrations each week; another brilliant organ and video! Thanks both!
How wonderful to see that this organ has been saved and is being cared for. With a bit of TLC it'll be a fine sounding instrument - singing diapasons and some really characterful flutes. Would love to hear those Great reeds in tune with the chorus. I wonder if the "prepared for" space in the swell box was for another 16ft? It seems to be a very purposeful space. Maybe to fit in an independent expressive Pedal stop. Whatever, yet another fascinating video - thank you for posting.
Another wonderful video of an historic instrument by Brent & Andrew !
This is a lovely instrument. Each voice is unique and beautiful; every stop is important. Love the reeds!
This is how an organ should sound.
i live near Highland. The last i heard, Wicks is out of business.
They are still there, albeit on a lesser scale than originally: wicksorgan.com/
Bombarde 32 is like a trombone/pousane and bassoon 16 hybrid?
Vox Humana 16? Never heard of that before. Please elaborate further?
thought for a moment Bach's Figue in E flat, was a dubstep to the tune of O God Our Help In Ages Past
An excellent presentation as ever, showcasing in particular your unending patience and good manners. I do wish however that folk would not use the term "restoration", to describe what is effectively a rebuild, however well meant, with alterations which remove much of the originality of the instrument. The organ as it now stands is very good, with an overall 19th century sort of sound, but it is a rebuild, acknowledging contemporary requirements; to call it a "restoration" is pue gaslighting.
A lovely success story, I enjoyed the Pastoral by Albert D Schmutz you played, Do you know where I could order this from Please.
