This Time It's Landscape Photography
An early morning at El Fondo natural park. Last time I was here it was about wildlife photography, this time it's landscape photography before, during and after the sunrise and, despite a lack of clouds to add interest to the sky, I am treated to a beautifully tranquil morning of photography and the chance to photograph nature as it wakes to a new day (and the wildlife did play its part)
I hope you enjoy it

Phone Photography Is it worth it
zhlédnutí 467Před dnem
In today's video I'm tying out some phone photography. Is it worth it to leave the camera at home and just shoot with the camera on a phone, even if it's not the latest phone with the latest features? I have an iPhone 11 and the camera is pretty basic, it doesn't even have the ability to shoot RAW, so I wanted to see what kind of images I could get with it. I think the results are quite interes...

    OK. I really need to get my fisheye lens out again. I have a Vivitar manual fisheye lens - don't remember if this is just for CMOS cameras, which I have, or if its full frame. Wasn't terribly expensive, but it has taken some very interesting photos. As I recall it does get the sun star flare really easily. Closeups are really neat with these.

    Ralph, thank you for your excellent review of the "Brian" tripod from 3 Legged Thing! I was a bit surprised when you mentioned the kit you use with it, and that in certain conditions you saw a bit of blur in your images. I believe the Brian has a load capacity of 30 lbs. Based on your comments/observations, I think I shall look into the Leo V2 version, as it has a load capacity of an amazing 66 lbs, which implies that it should have absolutely zero issues with a 10 lb kit. Thanks again sir.

    • @RalphGoldsmith
      @RalphGoldsmith Před 9 dny

      Glad it was helpful. It's worth remembering that all travel tripods will be less stable than their larger counterparts, the small size normally comes with thinner leg sections that are more prone to shake. It's a bit of a trade off. Brian is still an excellent tripod although I make more use of his big brother Winston now. I'm sure Leo is good as well. iPhone photography is different and clearly there are many uses for it… just as there were with the Instamatic camera and film P&S when most families had one. I have 14 pro X and is best when used with the Leica Lux Pro App or Fjorden App, or for art photos / ICM etc… But normally there is a ‘phone look’ about images… But are they becoming the new normal with billions of phone images being made each day? But you can also use it as a live viewfinder with a real camera (good for the aurora in Scotland) or using the viewfinder App for scouting to see what say a 50mm f1.2 would look like on a scene at F1.2 and shooting at 1:1 ratio or any camera / lens setup when you do not want to carry all your gear with you.

    The best camera is surely the one you have readily available. I tend to use the mobile phone a lot lately and especially when having my main gear is not possible or appropriate. I am really impressed with what you can do these days with mobile phone cameras, especially when you edit the raw images. Not the greatest technically but surely a very useful tool, especially when scouting. What people need to understand though is that there is a lot of automatic computational aspects on mobile phone photography, which may make people believe that they can totally replace a proper camera. And this is far from reality. Thanks for sharing Ralph!!

Thanks to Eric & Kass Mencher who shoot only on phones, I now make 80% of my images on a Samsung Galaxy, some in RAW when the opportunity allows. Edit with Lightroom and Snapseed. Actually, I haven't had that problem for a long time, A few tightens and it seemed to sort itself out. Hope you get yours sorted. Thank you for watching and commenting

    Nice video Ralph. Really liked the yellow flower. It is indeed important to realize how the interplay between aperture, shutter speed, focal length, and ISO can determine the look and feel of your subject...... something few that use their phone as a camera (no matter the resolution) do realize.

    I'm into wide angle stuff right now. Can still get some good blurry background if the main subject is close up. Doing a lot of complicated angle stuff and pics that draw you in.

    Very true that the blurring of individual elements in a photograph can really enhance the subject. I think you have demonstrated this in an exemplary manner today Ralph!!

    Shouldn't street photography be photographs of streets and or street names. Also I have never heard such a cheerful version of such a sad song.

    • @RalphGoldsmith
      @RalphGoldsmith Před 25 dny

      Street photography, traditionally, involves people in candid situations, but I like your idea better😀. As for the song, I'm not sure what it may be based on, it's from an audio source specifically for CZcams videos. Anyway. Thank you for watching and commenting
