A Stroll Through Queen's Park 2010 (Bedford UK)
this is so cool to look as someone who was born in 2006 and has only been in bedford their whole life, seeing some stores that are still there and seeing it way less pedestrianised than it is now
Nowadays it's non stop crackheads and weirdos on those streets now
@BrooksMinney the town centre is fcking dreadful. Best avoided. There are now a couple of clowns issuing tickets to people on scooters
boring hole then, boring hole now
Great video, not much changed really except the death of the High Street shops, it always was poor provincial town which all of the sudden found itself as UK's distribution centre surrounded by warehousing of all sorts. Great video, and music reflecting the character of the town. ;-)
Dear Sir, thank you for getting back to me regarding me using the footage you posted on CZcams of the Luton Carnival for my project. My tutor has told me for my project I need evidence of your permission to use the footage so that I can show I understand copyright restrictions. Also yesterday I showed the people from the Carnival Arts Centre that helped me with my project and they said they would like to include my film as part of the Carnival events next weekend and for the marketing campaign. Please would you send me an email stating: "Aon Ghulam I am happy to give you permission to use my footage/ my uncle's footage in your college film project" Also if you agree please could you also state "I am happy to give permission for you to feature my footage / my uncle's footage in an edited film about the Carnival that can be used by the Carnival Arts Centre, as part of the events and to publicize the Carnival" If you agree and give permission please can you email the statements in bold to this address: email: 22002658@student.barnfield.ac.uk Thanks to the footage that your uncle has shot, and the fact you shared it, I was able to showcase the origins of the carnival by making those viewing my documentary understand that the carnival's history is long and well established. Thank you very much for your help, Kind Regards Aon Ghulam Media student at Barnifield College, Luton 22002658@student.barnfield.ac.uk
Thanks for sharing . I could tell you so many crazy stories about Bedford . In the early 60's Peacocks Auctions used to be on the one way system between the Crown court and the Police statuon opposite the rowing club entrance . There was a fish and chip shop on the corner of Western st and Commercial Road run by an old Italian . If you ordered Cod roe and chips he would look at you to gauge how hungry you were before he cut the slice of roe . I first went there in 1965 - 66 . Winkles nightclub in the '90's , the Bear public house ( sadly one of the twin girls that frequented the pub then was later murdered by her ' boyfriend ' down by the river ) . Crazy , crazy times .
The year I started work. Happier more carefree times...
Bedford 2 years before me and my family came to love.
Hello sir I am a student at Barnfield college at the level 2 creative media course. My final project is based on the carnival so I was wondering if it would be possible for me to use your footage if you give me your consent
You are welcome.
I love nostalgia
Did an old woman live in a cave house under the castle mound near to the lavender flower beds facing the river ???? Am sure it was real
Before cellpbones, social media
Like Pakistan now 😂
Worked there in the 70's do not remember it being like that.
Where have all the English people gone in Bedford...it's literally like the middle east these days and full of street beggars as an added bonus..
Great thanks for the upload, brings back memories. I was 14/15 in 1985, the year of the B & C Reg motors. I purchased my first Sony Cassette Walkman from Dixons in Bedford in this year.
Very good. Thanks for your input.
3:26 Warwick Avenue. Totally different now.
I would love for someone to watch this and recognise themselves or a friend/relative
Someone commented that he saw himself playing rugby.
Amazing to think that in living memory what antique cars were still in daily use then.
Remember it well, great to see it, back in the day, 😅😅😅
You'd think in time things would improve... Now it's a ghost town if only the people in this video could of seen the future... I'm sure they would of left.
And i think we all know why....
@@peternagy-im4be why is bedford downhill, i live in bedford???
This is awesome. Thank you! I moved from Bedford in 1986. Lived in Queens Park and Brickhill. If Jason Randall or Canuthe Cato see this (my two best friends), This is Zack! Hit me up! 😛
Hiya, I'm Canuthe's nephew, sitting with him, and he says hi and going through memories with me 😂
I was a child growing up in the 80s. in 1985 i was 8 years old and remember Bedford town very well. Pick & mix at Woolworths, C&A store, the Beehive! So nice to see people just sat having a chat and people watching, not glued to mobile phones!! Life was so much better back then😥😥
Pick and nick....
yappuchino mate, melt
Whats with the horrific music
Homemade synthesiser stuff 1984
Look at Bedford now it's a shitwhole
And now it's a ghost town... So sad.
Much like many other towns in England.
What's with the creepy music?
I'm guessing this was filmed in the summer ?
Blimey this is a blast from the past! Studied there 84-88 and have some great memories. Worked in the Saracen's Head pub in 87.....may be going back soon to see how things have changed.
Not there anymore
Yes I went back to have a walk around and saw the plaque to say where it stood. It was a pretty depressing walk around the town centre with so many shops closed. But I can see little glimmers of hope to bring life back to Bedford with maximising the river areas and the concerts in the park.
@superlornap glimmers of hope? Good god almighty are you sure?
Utter dump. So glad I moved out of this town. Full of mediocrity and dullards with a fake Cockney accent.
Now full of certain other groups shall we say
It is still the same. Nothing changed.
It has changed as you can see we had a busy town centre.
Shocking number of Allegros and a bonkers soundtrack.
I don't think this is 1985
Definitely is
Born and bred in Bedford 1968. Joined the navy in1984 have not been back. This video brought back memories. Went to sea cadets by Newnham pool, and lived in George Street and castle road. Went to St Thomas more for my sins 😂😂
Silver Jubilee school was crap towards the end
Other than the odd crazy drunk or weirdo Bedford was an ok place to exist as you can see here. Fast forward 27 years and it’s become something very, very different. Foreign gangs rule the streets and hideous crime prevails. Haven’t we done well..?
Video made by dashcam
@ nintyguy999 only problem 27 hrs later is that you have 3.5 million elderly and disabled to look after. These are your mother's fathers aunts and uncles who u have thrown into care homes. You need us to wipe their backsides, to bathe and feed them. Its clear you cant look after your own parents
Haven't they heard of pedestrian crossings?
Worked in Bedford at Colley Sampson Estate Agents 82-84. Searched for street scenes Bedford 1980s and didn't think I'd find anything so thank you! Nan had a house in The Grove, just up from the The Three Cups pub
My Grandad was a Royal Navy Commander, after becoming diabetic he settled in Bedford and took a job as HR manager at Allen's until he died from a heart attack outside the Allens club late'78/early'79. His house was on Bromham Road, more-or-less exactly on the site of the Gallows, where my father grew up. My Dad eventually became an apprentice at Allens Works. My Dad told me stories of men heating up their beans in the drop forge! I grew up in Queens Park, leaving at the age of 15, my sister currently lives in the new-builds on the old site. I have fond memories of having factories to play in between Oldfield Road and Old Ford End Road., which was a street away from my house, on the road with the little Pizza base factory at the bottom (when I lived there) and allotments at the top :) Thank You all for you amazing research, I've warmed my heart learning abut the frankly fascinating place I grew up.
Nostalgia
Really important historic record. Well worth watching.
Hi are the photos in the video available anywhere ?
Great memories
Wow!!! Bedford Town on MOTD. Did you remember the season?
FA Cup 1st Round 17th November 2001
@@Emerton321 Thank you. I thought a long time ago
Love Bedford
Never heard of it
You guys should rerun the same route with the camera in the car (where possible) that you filmed for the 1985 video. Now that would be fascinating. Keep up the good work.
Looks like Lee took a fancy to the large lady crossing at 1.55 ish lol (great vid thanks)
I just about remember seeing it with my dad as a tiny lad, Commercial Road?
I was 27 then & been married 8 years I worked at woolworths in the town.
