Thank you for sharing your extremely inspiring story. I also work in the healthcare system, I have been a physical therapist assistant for the past 27 years. Sometimes when I look at the list of diagnoses' of my patients I'm amazed that they are still alive . And the horrible facility food sure wasn't helping matters. I have been largely a vegetarian but went through phases where I was eating a lot more meat than I normally would thanks to these ridiculous carnivore and keto communities on CZcams and allowing myself to slowly be brainwashed. In the past few weeks I have finally decided to completely give up animal products. I was mostly drinking milk and eating cheese and butter and occasionally eggs. Over the years I have always been so depressed at the plight of these factory farm animals and what we are doing to them on a daily basis. But yet, I fell into the belief that you have to have some type of animal product in your life or you will get deficiencies. Never again. And it was very hard initially to give up the milk especially, now I am just so glad that I did.

Being a carnivore does not automatically mean being a beast.
We are opportunistic omnivores. We evolved to hunt and gather. We also evolved to use tools and fire to process food. Study history. You are wrong.
I have only scratched the surface here. If the existence of humans were compressed into a 24 hour day, we have only been eating meat for 14 minutes. The fact that we can eat meat doesn't mean that we should eat meat. We are no longer living a subsistence existence whereby we should eat anything we can get our hands on to survive to the next day and the main challenge is to live long enough to procreate. If you want robust longevity, meat should not be on the menu. Evolution by natural selection is blind to longevity and is only based on whether or not you live long enough to reproduce.
@@lkuriskomd The chimpanzee who we share our closest common ancestor with is also an omnivore. I do think that we are better off going heavy on plant material but we are also predators. We have always been predators. So have chimps.

Yet we survived thousands of years on alot of meat, god created us in his vision which may or may not fit evolution.

My BMI is between 19 and 20. I have never smoked. I don't drink and I don't take drugs. I walk 90 minutes daily. I eat a whole foods plant-based diet. I will have to see if it qualifies as nutritarian. I am 67 years old.

And while it could be a tough adjustment initially for some people, once they see how terrific they can feel on plants (and how many meds they can toss) they won't want to turn back.
Hi Dr Fuhrman any idea for breast calcification? What a woman can do. My second question is about breast thermography versus mamogram.. I stop doing Mamogram 2 years ago although I have breast calcification.. I eat healthy I am a plant based eater with minimal consumption of olive oil. I really like your diet.
Sorry for late response. Breast calcification usually is benign. It requires the expert eyes of a radiologist to assess which calcifications could be cancer. The more common benign breast calcifications are not a health risk. The decision to pursue screening mammography is a personal one to be made in discussion with your doctor. It has no scientific validity as a screening tool.

You are right to a degree but seem to be ignoring the pink elephant in the room - DIABETES. THE MOST IMPORTANT MEDICAL TEST IS A GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST. A1C does a mediocre job of detecting pre-diabetes. Diabetes at any level is causing heart disease. At the very least, one should wear a continuous glucose monitor and track your glucose response to meals. Any food that triggers a glucose response OVER 140 is causing heart disease. FACT. You are right in that intense exercise is the most important lifestyle change one needs to make. The next is eating a diet that keeps your glucose levels low. TEST DON'T GUESS.
Hello @CapWalks1 - we discuss diabetes often and will continue to promote Mastering Diabetes and the work of Cyrus Khambatta, PhD and Robby Barboro MS. Lee often suggests to the die hard meat eaters (who believe this is the holy grail to keeping diabetes under control) - to take a glucose test after eating a banana or any carb really (of course they'll fail because they haven't addressed the underlying insulin sensitivity). Lots of research, and indeed history, indicates that we get certain essential amino acids from animals only, as these proteins and amino acids are only created by animals. Research that indicates otherwise, is inconsistent with... reality, perhaps?
False. Humans can get all the essential amino acids from plants and we can make the non-essential amino acids from the essential. Only plants create amino acids de novo by taking nitrogen for the air and synthesizing them. Pretty cool.

Challenge such a person with carbs and blood sugar will go sky high at least initially until insulin sensitivity is re-established which can occur quite quickly. For me, it only took 3 days to go from pre diabetic to perfectly normal eating a ton of carbs. Won't happen quite that fast for everyone.
This is the worst advice I have ever heard please link any reputable source that claims saturated fat causes insulin or metabolic dysfunction
Start with Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambatta PhD and Robby Barbaro MPH and/or visit www.masteringdiabetes.org. You can also visit Neal Barnard, MD - PCRM.org. - ask any reputable plant-based physician and they all have stories of reversing diabetes - Dr. Furhman, Dr. McDougall etc. So the worst advice you've actually ever heard is that carbs cause diabetes. That is the LIE. Intracellular fat (myocellular fat to be more exact) is what causes insulin resistance. Thanks for watching.

Just yesterday I had a lengthy discussion with a crop duster pilot. Pre-diabetic and following the western medicine model of "no fruit" - I made him lunch and share with him how he could eat if he followed the Mastering Diabetes program. He was incredulous and excited. Why? The current diet he has been told to follow isn't working and he misses, fruit, potatoes, pasta and so much more. So to counter your statement - enjoy - and I hope you don't become diabetic or develop heart disease and die prematurely or suffer the loss of a limb.
And go to a FIR sauna for 15min several days a week.

You can tell he’s reading this from some BS website that he found. Fatty liver or any other fatty organ is clearly caused by fat leaking out of fat cells when you were insulin resistant.
It's an accumulation of fat from excess fat in the diet. I'm not sure it's worth responding because the comment is filled with tremendous naiveté. Fatty liver can show up in non-diabetics. Lastly, the "BS website" is years of medical training in general medicine, radiology and neuroradiology.

For those asking about the numbers. My cholesterol went from 494 to 115 with my ldl dropping to 15 with in 6 months of WFPB. TRIGLYCERIDES went from 3295 to 175. My stress test went from abnormal to normal. Recently after COVID another stress test was normal. I have not had a repeat arteriogram although I had a normal CT arteriogram of my heart also after COVID.
Yes, after giving specific numbers from his angiogram, he doesn't say how or if those numbers improved on WFPB. He cites studies saying stents and bypass don't help, which may be true. But does extremely low fat WFPB actually help? Or will any diet where you loose weight and visceral fat improve CVD?

Please see my husband’s response above regarding his numbers. I’m speaking for him here but I do think in the situation he was in the more “drastic” approach of a low fat WVPB was called for. There’s no question that losing weight and getting to your ideal body weight will help numbers but as far as cutting visceral fat I think it depends on the diet as a whole along with other factors like increasing muscle mass.
You can eat all meat and do the same ... Bread/grains are the problem.
All of the legitimate research supports a plant focused diet long-term over meat centric diets. It's unfortunate that there is so much confusion regarding nutrition. You can't reverse heart disease on a strict carnivore diet. Yes - Wonder White Bread is not a good choice either. Healthy carbs are the key to a healthy gut biome and the answer to preventing and reversing diabetes. Thanks for watching though and happy running!!
I’d be really interested to know whether the diet improved his numbers on those arterial blockages. Also if plaque is reduced as to whether it is safely done so - that is to minimise any chance of pieces breaking off
I will reach out to Dr. Conway. In the interim the best data to quell your concerns lies with Dr. Esselstyn. He took patients with near blockage and reversed their disease successfully.
