I was at San Jose Super Con 2009, and I asked Crispin what his opinion on other vampire series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight. I's funny that he says vampires are all about sex and that twilight is like blue balls. When you think about it, vampires are undead, their heart is not beating, the skin is white because they don't have a blood flow. So how do they get en erection then?

William92S I'm fairly certain blood is key to numerous bodily functions including most importantly the brain, being that they are supernatural they can forgo the need for blood at all... basically they would get hard via supernatural means. It was a retelling....not a remake....a remake is the same story but with different themes. It wasn't even that good of a movie but thats just my opinion. All vampire stories have sex in them. The Moth Diaries introduced the concept that it is not the blood they are truly after it is the passion of love because they themselves lack it. A qoute from the film from the teacher who said "All vampire stories have 3 things in common. Death,Blood, and Sex"

Perhaps it's because of the fact that vampires don't have any blood and since humans would need food to live, Vampires require blood in order to live.

I knew Crispin was a brilliant actor. I didn't know he was so well versed in literary tropes and the origins of different mythologies! Holy cow, he's a scholar's dream guy!
Yeah, Crispin is a comparative mythologist, by his own admission, he loves looking at the mythologies and stories from different cultures and how they can be used in storytelling. I actually was at one of his Comparative Mythology Panels at Phoenix Comicon, he's super good at relaying information.
Such a beautifully comprehensive answer. I can listen to him talk about teacups all day and not get bored.
