I remember when my son told me his wife was pregnant. I didn't react like this at all. Truth is, I didn't react. I was so stunned by the news, and my total lack of knowledge of how to be a decent grandparent, that I just said, "that's great son. Congratulations." No emotion, nothing. Now that I know the joy of grandparenthood, my reaction will be totally different next time they tell me.
