This is genuinely the BEST interpretation of this toccata I’ve ever come across. It’s just mastered to perfection. The level of dynamics, the timing, everything. It’s absolutely incredible. I come back to watch this performance every so often because it’s just addicting, it gets better each time I hear it! I wish she was more well known!

Lionel VIGNERESSE.

You don’t need to sign the end of your comments. Also, have you considered that the percussiveness might also be a product of sound quality? I personally love it regardless. -Herobrine

Lionel VIGNERESSE.

  • @grumpyoldpianistplus

The Chopin nocturnes not dreamy enough/too factual for my taste. The other works could be more subtle and intimate at times. The tone could be gentler and less 'brittle'.

  • @grumpyoldpianistplus

Very factual: could do with rounding off. Only Grade V Associated Board exams!

  • @grumpyoldpianistplus

I have to keep listening to this performance to appreciate all the details that most pianists miss. Although the great show-masters of this piece can achieve playing all the notes and reduce the time element to 80% of the length of this performance, much is lost in the melee of notes and blurring pedal (to disguise wrong notes?) producing an almost cacophonic result!!!

  • @grumpyoldpianistplus

Excellent interpretation in bringing out parts which the listener does not normally hear. Also clear, not muddied by the pedal.

This interpretation is ridiculously good, not only comparable to wordclass pianists such as Martha Agerich, but in my opinion, even better. I've never heard an interpretation of scarbo such as this one. Truly an astounding performance and pianist.

I feel like this is what Prokofiev wanted. You can feel the utterly psychotic nature of this piece in this performance. Yuja wang’s performance is amazing but I think this one has much more flavor.

Such fire. The Limoges Market movement took my breath away. In that realm, pure passion-wise, this might be my favorite performance that I've heard. In another realm, Ivo Pogorelich's studio recording . . . the second part of the Catacombs (With The Dead In A Dead Language) is a hair-raising meditative masterpiece. You can't even breathe.

Greatest performance of this Toccata is Horowitz, with Yuja Wang (encore) a ridiculously close second; Zhang about equal to Wang - a fabulous rendition as well. With time at a premium for most, listening to other interpretations could be considered superfluous (other than to satisfy curiosity). No disrespect whatsoever intended, but this isn't even in the same universe as those.
