My third, and probably my last, video of BMCC in the age of Covid. A friend had a plausible theory there would be more students in Fiterman Hall than in the main building. Larger classrooms for better distancing, newer and better ventilation system, etc. It is not so. Maybe there are a few more students, but hardly a difference that matters.

Mordechai Kedar. Social and political sources of tension in the Middle East.
Great video covering so many topics. Two wonderful people who have done so much for the community. Thank you.
I first met the Conovers back in 1979 or 1980 when they were still living on Mt Desert Island. I was at the time deeply involved in Bald Eagle recovery efforts along the Maine coast and they were on the verge of starting their canoe guiding company, North Woods Ways. Not long afterwards I founded Sea Venture Kayak Tours, the first sea kayaking tour company in Maine. Sea Venture Kayak Tours eventually evolved into Sea Venture Custom Boat Tours and I spent 25 years sharing my love of the sea and Mount Desert Island with visitors from all over the country and all over the world. Many years after I last spoke to the Conovers a couple from the midwest joined me for an all day trip circumnavigating Mt. Desert Island. Along the way they mentioned they were avid canoeists and added that they had paddled some of the classic Maine river trips. While discussing those trips with me they happened to mention that they had encountered a fascinating couple devoted to a totally different style of canoe travel based upon more traditional methods with an emphasis upon flowing with the rivers rather than battling against them. Didn't take me long to recognize that they were talking about my old friends the Conovers. All said and done I suspect that the legacy Garrett mentioned at the end of this marvelous video will rest in large part upon the numerous recollections of those whose lives were changed to the better while paddling or poling the lovely rivers of Maine with this dedicated couple. And as Henry David Thoreau once pointed out, "In Wildness Is The Preservation Of The World."

I haven’t been in BMCC in 8 years
Is there a nursing lab ?
This is wonderful!
I discovered the book, "Beyond the Paddle" more than 15 years ago and realized that poling was the thing that I should pursue. I have owned four copies of this book and still have two... one for lending and one for me. It is beyond "well worn." Because of this discovery I have pursued certification as a poling instructor for Paddle Canada, created a CZcams channel to promote poling and am creating a website to promote poling by supplying history, cultural context and arguments for its return to mainstream canoe tripping skills. I was so happy to come across this interview and I wish I could thank these two important people for their contribution to our shared canoe culture.
I've been trying to find that book for years... Poling is my favourite mode of travel. Shame I'm no good 😄
@@rogerharvey9863 Amazon! :)
@@canoepoler I'll have a look. There's a lot of disadvantages to living in UK tho, access to books and whatnot that interest me being one 🙂
@@rogerharvey9863 Yes but you have a lot of nice places to paddle that aren't spread out over thousands of miles!
