Structural Tour of the Off Grid Desert Garden
Hiyas happy day. This garden has been a couple years in the making. I thought I'd make a video of the design and some of the environmental factors dealing with gardening here. It's not the prettiest but it's maintaining a good temperature in there while blocking out alot of wind. We'll see how it holds up to the little mammals as plants grow. For now, thanks for watching. All the steps are in a playlist here on my channel, Garden Build. Please give a like and a subscribe if you're interested. Thank you!🙏

Garden bed soil fill-up
zhlédnutí 82Před 2 měsíci
Hiyas happy day! Well I've been mixing a bunch of soil and filling up the beds. Even picked up a couple companion plants for the area. With the small bed space, I'll be doing potted companions to afford more space in the beds. In the video, I also explain some manure composting that I've been doing for 4 years here, with my chicken manure. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe if you'r...
Garden Gate Build and The Do Over

Hiyas thanks a bunch for stopping by. I've assembled the gate for the garden area. My building philosophy here is "design as I build" and sometimes I should use more tape measuring and stuff. Also in this one, I lay out the logistics of water moving forward to get something growing here. Thanks a bunch please give a like and a subscribe. It's pretty free, just costing a little time. Thanks a lo...

Hiyas thanks for stopping by. I put this up Monday afternoon but couldn't get it on here til now. Written Monday May 28, 2024 11 am. Blue tin foil hats at the ready! Those big firing sunspots from a couple weeks ago are back and already lighting it up! Something about them flares gets me awfully writey. Together we can learn from each other to harness their power. Have a nice day and have your ...

Enjoyed your visit the other night.. cya when your out of werk, lets make more MUZAK!
@@MohaveDesertHomestead for sure dude it was fun! Muzak indeed✌️
Where are you..I'm in NJ....n it's as hot as the devil's ass here...
I'm in NW Arizona. Dude this is not normal....lol. it was 71 when I was filming this. It's 99 now but we don't have that humidity y'all have there. Thanks for watching 🙏✌️
☃️
🤷♂️
Oh my word! Forget Christmas in July it’s snow in July! What were the temps?
It dropped to 71. I'm just so confused. There was no hail piles. It was snow and rain.
So wild. Amazing all the different challenges we all face in our different climate zones.
For sure this is a fun one!! Thanks Lisa 🙏
Kids don’t rub your eyes! No kidding been there did that before
Love the burn! Lol thanks Lisa🙏
Gorgeous!
Thank you this sure is some desert!
Sweet setup! 🔥
Thanks man!🐶
Hope this new revision helps!
Thanks Lisa me too! 🙏🐶
You didn’t see my community page ?
Gosh I didn't even get a notice or anything about that ..lol
That’s great! You’re gonna need that water capacity! I cannot believe what we go through here. So much money setting up for sure
It sure is a lot. Water storage is pricey and needs maintaining. We do what we do and improve as it goes...lol. thanks Lisa 🙏✌️
Tom this is so exciting! I use a chart for my seedlings in the trays too. Woohoo! Grow babies grow. Cayenne pepper may help the ants. I used de near my potatoes and it got rid of them
Thanks Lisa it was nice to see little heads today! I thought about mixing de into the soil. This is a table garden too so 3 feet tall. Lol welcome to the desert!🥵🤔🤣
"Observe and add" - YES! I'm constantly changing, tweaking, updating my projects based on how they are performing at the time. Learning as we go!
That's about Al we can do, watch and learn! Thanks a bunch for watching 🙏✌️
But …what’s that big white puffball in the background??
Lol it's been monsoony already. Been some nice lightning shows and cool winds. My first two summers here were very hot and dry so this is welcome! C'mon Matt, coffee time! ☕
@@ontheplant what the big white bubble on the ….ground…. Tom ?
@@Matt_HolbrookI'm not seeing it?
It’s understandable! I can’t believe what we have had to do to deal with environment! Lol. Between the wind and cold nights (assumption) and hot sun man you have challenges. Loving this construction! You will def learn so much as you grow!
Lol yeah it's wild how similar our climate is...lol. I don't get near the cold you do but it could swing 39 degrees in a day with 50 mph winds. .lol. Just watching and learning...lol! Thank you🥰
That’s great! We use our compost from kitchen scratch and chicken manure. This year we were behind schedule and added chicken manure from the coop 3 months ahead of time. So far so good. Great job! Tom you’re doing amazing!
That's a good idea!! I could start adding some scraps. I'm almost through the old pile so maybe as I age the new one I'll add to it. Thanks it's so nice to be doing this!✌️
I cannot wait to watch you grow. I know you have been working so hard to prepare the areas and you’re so smart to do that. So exciting!
Thanks Lisa! I'm stoked too. It was fun planting the beds✌️ I'll probably still make adds but I'm ok with it for now...lol. thank you 🙏
The gloss paint on PVC is to reduce sunlight breaking down the plastic?
Yes and the PVC is already browning...lol. I'll be saving up for metal hoops....!
Yo can't wait to see the results!!
Thanks a lot!! Couple beds are planted with seeds so game on! Thank you for watching 🙏✌️
It’s a process!
For sure it is. Alot of what I learned about food growing was in South Florida so it's been a whirly go round. I had to just start tho✌️🙏
Nice work! Where did you learn all this? LOL! Looking so handsome today too 😘
Aww thanks mom🥰❤️ I was lucky to have met those dudes at the hydro place and Farmer Jay. It's a different climate here but the plants tell you what they want✌️
Great job, bud! That soil composition sounds like a winner!
Thanks man it's been great so far. Two days the top is a little dry. I have to figure that out. With no roots drinking the water and seeds on top. Always something. I'm thinking of getting a couple smaller potted plants to stimulate the water moving. Thanks for watching ✌️
What you gonna do with rosemary? Scare off vampires or something.
For sure among other things, it's smell will keep stuff away!! It's good for cooking too!! Thanks bud!!
What is this “green” you speak of? Ha ha Have you worked a land scape crew? I used to be better at planting- I get so nervous about the roots I end up fumbling & messing it up- now I’m scared to try but I have lots of trees to plant, at some point. Maybe when it cools off in 59 more months
Haha the the two plants for now✌️ No I e never done a road crew. I farmed a few years in Florida before heading back to the Wild West. I wet the bucket with the plant in it to keep it all together and slide out the pot easier. Y'all get some temps that way that's for sure. The elevation here takes some bite off but adds it to winter...lol .thanks for watching 🙏
La Bamaba is the only one that comes to mind. Not sure if I could even stomach hearing that again.☕️
☕ lol, Come on let's go, Donna, We belong together, it's true he didn't get to release a lot of material. After him, the algorithm takes over and it's a good '60's mix...lol. cheers Matt!✌️
Do you have a rooster 🐔
Yes sir! He's silly
Looking great! Woohooo
Thanks Lisa it smells so good in here just with the soil. I miss this. Thank you!
Beautiful growth friend. Always love to see native plants
Thanks a lot Lisa!✌️
We’re learning as we go! Great job on the gate, man!
Thanks alot you guys! That's all we can do✌️. Y'all are doing amazing things there on your property so thanks for being there🙏
Haha agreed with @matt_holbrook! Seriously great build and we build and rebuild stuff way too much also. Its frustrating but reality for us
For sure there's many ways to make coffee round here...lol. thanks Lisa I never really have the finished vision...lol. I could have just left it alone and added the pieces I added and it would have worked but it's hot .lol. Thank you✌️
Long as the coffee maker keeps working and enough water for that, the important points.
Always coffee here bro ☕✌️🙏
Amen. Again beautifully said. Viva la community sufficiency!
Thanks alot Lisa. 🙏✌️😍🤗
Very well said and you are so right about fear! God bless! 😊❤
Thanks a lot for watching!🙏✌️
Fear God only But not “fear” fear
Yes! Thank you 🙏✌️
Beautifully said Tom! Very relevant! And very true! Profound thought provocative video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching it Lisa! 🙏🥰
Hey Oregonian here.... Doug Fir grows in damp loamy forest compost and is drought sensitive in that the dry weather causes the tree to produce cones as a survival response...
Hey right on! Some fellow Oregonians gifted me these🙏 We're all hoping they do well. We have lots of evergreens here that do fairly well with setting a good root at planting with some good compost added to the native soil. I'm at 3900 feet here so it's not terribly as hot as it could be🙏 Thanks for the info and I'm crossing my fingers with them! For sure I'll be adding progress reports✌️ I thought about a picture a day or something but I'm not regimented well enough for that...lol. Thank you for watching!
I hope they take.... Keep in mind Hesperocyparis Arizonica as a tried and true drought resistant wind break evergreen that thrives where cacti grow!@@ontheplant
@@Gabachazo 💯
Thanks a bunch for that! I'll look around for that variety. Now that there's a couple in, I'd like to do a couple more and put them all on some type of irrigation. Thank you🙏
Well these didn't take. I for sure waited too long to get them planted. Maybe earlier but I'm gonna have to try something else next time. ✌️
You Live here? Are You INSANE! Living in the DESERT? (nice isn't it)
Who's a thunk it right? Lol
@@ontheplant It's ME Again.... on my Music account... this is all my albums on one page.. wish it sorted by release date, the new stuff has lyrics and such. old stuff's no where near as good as my new shyt! www.youtube.com/@LordPapp/releases hope you like! I suggest the albums "Desert Serenade (Ether 1 or 2)" "Fading Hopes" (about me loosing this land I had on lockdown) "Midnight Shadows" "Brothers Across the Sea" "Neon Oasis" "Desert Dreams" " Evolution Revolution" "Worlds On Fire" "Shadows of My Mind"
Whoa what's up superstar!!✌️🙏
@@ontheplant its how I cope with my issues and a way I find to spend my nervous energy, very healing....
That's a nice gift! I'm looking forward to watching them grow!
I thought so too🙏 I'm hoping they like it here. Thanks a lot!!✌️
Trees as a wind break will be amazing! Super smart move
Thanks a lot Lisa should hopefully make that a nice area there 🙏✌️
Trees! Yay!
Yay for sure! 🌲
I just got back from Dolan Spring to look at my property on Sage Drive, and yes it rocky for real.. I will keep watching because I'm like what did I get myself into??
Congratulations to you!! That's a nice area over there✌️ I'm on Palm Dr so not too far. Yes the rocks are in good supply...lol. We're lucky here tho, many people have to pay for them ✌️ Of course digging them up is the fun part🤣 Thanks a lot for watching! We can learn from each other✌️
That’s fancy! I like it. You’re doing things smart
Thanks a lot Lisa!!! I'm looking forward to this Frankenstein coming to life ..lol. thank you 🙏
Fancy
Hah thanks Matt. Don't trust myself for hand watering...lol. ☕
I just brought my land in Dolan springs, will be learning to homestead
Right on welcome!! And congratulations!! 🥰
Bravo!!!!
Awww thanks!✌️🙏🥰
Great job, buddy! Man, your place had come a long way! I'm eager to see that space filled with producing plants!
Thanks a lot man . You and me both!! Thanks for watching!!
Rockin ☕️
Thanks dude! ☕
Tom this is incredible progress. Love the hardware cloth on the floor and the idea of mulch on top of it. Def make sure your rock beds are shaped to give you the most use of your space. Haha everything is on the list! Same here
Thanks Lisa some gardener friends here suggested the cloth under the beds. Seems logical!! Yes the list just goes and goes and goes...lol! Thank you!
Good work Tom. You just amaze me. You just do so much on your own.
Thanks a lot Jackie I just gotta build enough to be able to play video games all day then I'm set!🤣 Thank you✌️🙏
Good to see it working!
Thanks it's still holding up and working too!! Thank you ✌️
