    Hello. I came to your channel by searching for a DIY strop, and I watched your video on that subject. It was a bit long, but I watched it from beginning to end with only a few skips along the way. Your delivery is really good and I find you to be quite personable; on that basis, I looked at the number of subs you have and was surprised your channel (like mine) is quite small. I wanted to see if you were still making videos, and saw that you haven't made a new one in over two years. What a shame that CZcams hasn't treated you better. I, too, have been a while since making my last vid because my earnings went from about $100 per month down to less than a third of that. I was very discouraged, but seeing that as good as you are, your channel has struggled, I am going to try again. I hope you will too. ETA: I see from your reply to another comment that you have some more videos in process, but have stalled on editing. Maybe some of the new AI type features available will reduce the grind of editing. I am thinking of changing to Da Vinci Resolve.

I was so eager to learn more I've watched dozens of vids plus ran out and bought 3 field guides. I'm really hooked now, these were my very first finds. I now have a leg up on my first coming season. Riding the saddle off into the forest we go! (I won't be harvesting them at this stage, however....smaller ones, much younger.) (My dad was from Voe, Shetland!)

    • @GreenerGlens
      @GreenerGlens Před rokem

      Hi I would think you could use honey no problem. The sugar is just a more neutral flavour so you can taste the ingredients. I personally love honey & mead so I think that would be delicious. My preference would be to use a really nice flavourful honey but I'll leave it you to experiment & let me know how you get on. Although if your in the UK you better get busy as the beech leaves are maturing rapidly so get them whike they are young & fresh. I have filmed about 30 new videos but editing them together is my achilles heel. Hopefully I'll have some more up soon. 😊

      @@GreenerGlens Aye, I thought that as well and have already foraged some beech leaves. Right after watching your video actually. I’m a big fan of mead and have made a few batches. I used my Grandfathers recipe that he gave me when I was just a young girl and I’m thinking of using what he used which was clover and wild honey. It has a great flavor but mild enough to not intrude on the other flavors. Good to know you’ll be adding some more videos. This is a really inspiring video. I’ve been struggling with Amadou for a while. It would be great if you could go into a little more detail on how to find the right specimen. If I’ve understood correctly, the top should give to pressure? Size should be smaller than hand? The only bit you’re interested in is the very top layer (newest growth, furthest away from spore tubes), the rest can be discarded. Have I got that right? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

    • @GreenerGlens
      @GreenerGlens Před rokem

      Thanks very much. Amadou is tricky & there is a lot of misinformation around about it. I really should do a video on how to do the whole process. I thought the ASMR was a fun idea for this particular video - except for my sniffing (it was cold). It is difficult to find a soft large specimen & if you do it is usually worm eaten so the smaller ones are a better bet at sea level (you can find bigger less worm eaten ones above 1000m). You can feel the skin is thin & the trama layer will be soft enough to push in with a strong press from your thumb. In this video I used the layer just above the spore tubes which is the youngest layer but you can sometimes use the upper layers but these are more likely to be harder & more difficult to stretch out. When rhey are younger the spore tubes are shorter & easier to remove as well. Once you find a seem to open up you can very often seperate the layers then once you've cleaned them up with a knife you can stretch away or beat it out with a mallet or smooth stone. Hope that helps 👍 thanks for watching.

    Oils absorbed into fibrous materials can be prone to spontaneous combustion & the worst culprit is Linseed oil. It is unlikely, but it is always best to leave rags & tissues outside of the house overnight or soak them in water right away. You could also place them in a metal bin with a metal lid. You might like to look at Mike Mahoney's walnut oil. I'll try Kolrosing now, that was a great video, well done & thanks for posting.

    • @GreenerGlens
      @GreenerGlens Před rokem

      Yes very good points. I have a wood burning stove & I just burn them on principle for safety. Linseed is one of the worst as you say & I've heard of friend's workshop bins catching on fire from this heating during polymerisation. If I didn't mention that in the vid - shame on me 😅.
