Great video. We have a log home that, unfortunately, was not grinded prior to erecting 30 years ago. I love how your logs are all grinded first. We grinded the outside of our logs after 10 yrs or so and loved the outcome. We would like to now do the inside but know how extremely dusty our entire house would become! Do you know if the dust shrouds for grinders would work on a project like this?

I always just backbar the entire scarf.. without making that little center cut you've started with. Also... in the vernacular I was taught... all corner notches that overlap half the log below them are 'saddle notches'... even diamond notches are a type of saddle notch... even round notches are a type of saddle notch. Saddle notches are a family of notches... not one particular notch... at least that's what I was taught.
