Solo hurricane chaser from Miami, FL.
Hurricane Nicole (2022): Cat 1 nighttime landfall, Hutchinson Island, FL
Footage from Category 1 Hurricane Nicole (2022), from a nighttime solo chase on a barrier island, provides a uniquely immersive and closeup view of 5 ft (1.5 m) storm surge and driving rain in 75 mph (120 kmh) winds. Note the importance of sand dunes in protecting coastal areas from storm-driven wave action.

Do NOT attempt to emulate any part of this footage. This video was filmed by an experienced hurricane chaser and researcher. Natural disasters are dangerous and can cause major physical or emotional trauma before, during, or after such events. A tropical cyclone landfall may last from hours to days, with basic needs and services unavailable during the event and indefinitely afterward. All severe weather, especially at night, should be taken seriously to prevent property damage, injury, or death. Always pay attention to storm surge warnings, as surge is a leading cause of hurricane fatalities. I hereby disclaim any and all liability from personal or material damages suffered as a result of attempting what is shown in this video.

- Additional information:
All video footage was filmed with iPhone 13 Pro. Some audio has been mixed from iPhone and GoPro recordings at or around the same time of each clip. The audio mixing was done as iPhone or GoPro audio alone did not capture some storm aspects well, and subjectively best represents all parts of the storm as I experienced it, including background wind, gusts, rain, and waves.
The times at the bottom indicate only the start time of each sequence. The times are local, U.S. Eastern Standard Time.
I will try to respond to questions in CZcams comments, or you can DM me with scientific or chase-specific questions:

Two years ago in 2019? Is this not 2024? What type of bullshit is happening here?
Two questions. 1. Do you have footage of the 2nd half of the storm? 2. Where did you go for the 2nd half?
Reminds me of 🌀 hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. I was up in the mountains. With altitude wind really picks up.
Poor birds.
Не думав, що на пальмах може рости омелла - що вона взагалі тропіках росте буду знать
😮😮😮😮😮😮
11:25 is the whole peak of this video
Great footage. Right after 11:38, you notice the wind violently change direction. I wonder if that was a mini-swirl.
The wind howling is scary 😮
God made trees pay for the sins committed by humans
Are hurricanes worse than tornadoes?
The palm trees : 🌴💨 🌀 💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃
THE PALMS NEVER QUIT
Damned air benders 😢
Full respect for the camera man who nearly risked his life to give us the best footage of a hurricane up close
Mother nature is soo powerful it can wipe the entire human existence in an hour. We are still soo small in front of it.

ربي جبروت ملكوت وكبرياء عظيم ❤
jesus fuc*ing christ that is crazy!!! One word keeps coming to mind, relentless, seems like it’s just never going to stop. And those crazy fast bursts every so often you just think it’s going to blow that building apart!!…It also looks like it switches direction constantly, i honestly don’t know how them trees withstood that wind speed for such a long period of time. Incredible footage
Oh my god that building is strong! Very glad you're safe, and thank you for recording and sharing this.
It sounds like you’re under a wave

12:05 is just fucking absurd. Mother nature is seriously scary
it looks like they got a lot of work to do
I'm Floridan and have lived here my entire life, for those who have never experienced a Hurricane it is truly terrifying. As a kid they were fun, but as an adult owning property and having kids, you take them much more seriously. When the winds pick up they can pop your dears from the pressure changing inside your house. I've tried to explain the sound to people who have never gone through one but the only example I can come up with is it sounds like a jet outside your house at full throttle. You also can forget sleeping through one because your house makes creepy noises from the wind pushing through the gaps in your winds.
Did anyone see the butterfly landing on the railing at the 6:47 mark?
10:13 was a disaster
This is cool , I wanna be there in the middle of it.

all things considered the building held up pretty well
Also, where is the storm surge?
Wow. I was at ground zero qt 14 years old when Katrina chewed us up and spit us out. But this right here is insane!!! I'm glad yall are okay ❤
