Drunk on Ideas, Sober on Execution
In this episode, I dive into the chaos of my latest podcasting misadventure. From battling with Descript's new interface to losing an entire hour-long recording, it's been a week of tech troubles and rookie mistakes. I share my frustrations with Descript's support (or lack thereof) and explain why I've decided to switch to Tella for video. Along the way, I reflect on the evolution of my podcast, the importance of ideas over format, and my plans for future content. Join me for an unpolished, off-the-cuff rant about the ups and downs of being a content creator.

Why do I take this stuff everywhere I go?
A while back, I had a victorianox that had no blade. I also believe they do some TSA safe products with no blade.
I like long videos!
Compact new in canada is about 75$ 🤬
Have you really used the prybar? Was is not worth the cost or time?
Dr Breens private reserve water
You really didn't do your homework on this tool. The scissors may not impress you because they are small, but they cut great, yes they cut paracord if you know how. You want a 4 inch blade on a 3 inch tool? You really need to know what your talking about before you share your opinions. It hasn't even occurred to you the options a quarter inch driver affords you. The gears on the pliers double the force of the grip.
The ranger is another under-appreciated model... it's much smaller and more compact than a champ, but has the saw and the file, as well as all of the back tools that the champ has... Good camping knife. (5 layer design)... (vs 8 on the champ, and 2 of those extra 3 layers are very thick (the pliers and 3d screwdriver layers)) looks like 7 because of the dividers, but I count the fish scaler layer as the 8th layer.
if you like the 2d phillips on the climber, the classic sd screwdriver I believe also does 2d phillips. (don't get me wrong, I like the 91mm models myself cause I like the larger tools)
The best phillips driver Victorinox makes is surprisingly on the Rambler. If you really wanted to, you can carry both the Climber & the Rambler without any noticeable difference. As for a pair of pliers, the 4 inch xs cobra from Knipex comfortably fits inside a pair of jean’s small pocket (the pocket above the right-side pocket).
I have pocket carried my Swiss Champ nearly every day since I bought it new in 1985. It has saved my bacon many many times !
How to the magnets affect the mag strips on your cards?
Thank you for sharing this EDC
Great set up man. And that Parker MP is beautiful. Love those as an edc!
The Swiss Champ is a fine tool but it's a brick, better suited to a desk drawer than an on person carry. I generally carry an Explorer and a Leatherman Sidekick. Is it more weight than a Champ? Yes. But that weight is distributed between 2 pockets, not one. I decided a long time ago that that trying to find ONE tool that does everything you want is fruitless.
Regarding the hygiene of the toothpick. 2 things. I have a titanium toothpick in a long capsule on a keyring I keep in my coat pocket with many other items on it. I use it quite a lot. I also carry a little spray bottle of 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol that I use for my hands, my glasses, general other things like cleaning glue off of blades and surfaces and I often use it to sanitise my toothpick. I just ordered a Climber and a Compact as I have a brother's birthday coming up and I can't decide which one to keep for myself.
I don’t think any of those are “loser” tools as you call them. It’s a matter of having the correct hand and finger dexterity in using them. Granted yeah if you want to chisel away at something for two hours then you use a normal length, stand alone chisel. But that can be said on any tool that is in the Swiss champ. Point being is that these tools all serve a function and do work but for quick operations.
The screwdriver on the back is the perfect size for the screws on wire to wire electric connectors 😉
Idk how many people dislike the hook, but personally, it's my favorite. I used it to take multiple bags of trash down, and once used my belt to bundle a lot of firewood and used the hook to carry it. Also, use it to take the cage cover thing off of an above ground fire pit. My favorite tool by far
I once used the hook to ancor a cable on top of a cupboard while installing something on the underside of the wall mounted cupboard
Rambler!
You missed the electrical connector crimper on the back of the pliers. Have carried the Swiss Champ in a leather pouch on my belt for years, never had a problem. It's always handy and does not get in the way. Used to work assembling Class A trucks. I was always getting metal splinter in my hands. The tweezers were a life saver.
Yes, for me this's the best way to carry this multi-tool.
god forbid we use a knife for things a knife is used for.
You sound suspiciously like a fan of the competition (if you can even call it that 😂). But seriously, thanks for sharing your two cents (and a peek at your Spyderco).
Such a shame the Manager has been discontinued. Only the far more expensive Nite Manager is available
The phillips multi tool is the reason I have a Rambler as my daily carry.
I carry a Huntsman. I used the saw at work today to breakdown a 3 meter wooden crate.
I carry a Handyman I've modified with Plus scales. I don't find too much difficulty carrying it, but it is hooked to my belt, hanging in my pocket, so it's different from just dropping it in a pocket. When I've tried dropping it in my pocket it has been a bit noticeable.
Great video, congrats👏👏👏. I use to carry a Ranger 91mm daily for the reasons you've mentioned. It has ALL the things I really need (and save me both: money and space). Cheers from Brazil 🙏
What about your credit cards, have they been affected by the magnets?
I have glasses so wanted to keep the micro screwdriver, so use the corkscrew tinder and Firefly fire steel replacing the toothpick.
Both of my knives I’ve replaced the toothpick with The Firefly fire steel.
I'll ruin your day then, The prototype had provision for exactly that and a needle compass.
I have the Rambler as a daily carry and Huntsman for camping, which is the largest SAK I’d have.
I'd definitely go with the more expensive clips. I've had a few of the cheap ones and they're straight up made of white metal (vs stainless steel) so they just snap as soon as you try to put them on a thick pocket
the flat head screwdriver is called the Dolphin.
Great video, liked how you went into to derail and added personality! I'm a firm believer of note taking but have trouble sticking with it
I would say that the Swiss Champ has the best "bang for the buck" of the Swiss Army knife series (size, features, cost). It is not "cheap" but still affordable. Victorinox does make a couple of other knives that are close to comparable, so a bit of "research" is always in order but buy the best you can afford. Some show more of a Wenger heritage (particularly in the considerably beefier spring set-up for the scissors and pliers). There are larger (and how!) Swiss Army knives but they are really too big and heavy to be practical AND the price skyrockets (great if you are a collector though... and there exists a true behemoth under the Wenger banner that has to be seen to be believed!). The lesser models may fit your needs but many may lack features you want. Better to have a feature that you might not often use (or at all) rather than lack something critically necessary...like the cork-screw (!!!). This may be apocryphal but I heard that the little screwdriver that fits in the corkscrew was originally intended for adjusting rifle scopes. Seems a bit too tiny, easily droppable and losable for that though. It does, however, do a sterling job in tightening those damnable hinge screws in ones eyeglasses! One thing though. Since these knives are "modular" and generally assembled from a standard kit of parts, Victorinox SHOULD be able to build custom knives (at a premium price, of course). Custom knife pouches would be a problem though. My original Swiss Champ is over 30 years old now, A few years ago I had it refurbished by Victorinox and it looked as good as new. These are knives, primarily, with additional features. If you lean towards the "multitool" idea (folding pliers with additional features), then both Victorinox and Leatherman produce some fine equipment.
Great Video, Felix Immler is the Name of the "only victorinox Chanel"
Put some heat shrink over your corkscrew and that will stop pocket wear on your tinder. Peace from Scotland
Climder nice tull.
I use pocket clips on all my SAK’s and they work extremely well. I will most definitely be checking out those pens, thank you and glad you’re back.
Great video man I agree the climber is also my favorite, if you get a little bit older one the scissors layer won't have the parcel hook on the backside and it will just be a beautiful solid chrome back bar instead 🤌 also I recently did my first custom sak and I replaced the blade layer on it with the metal file.
Try the mini champ
My wonder is that if these devices are practical for real cases of note taking or not. What I see is that you have Supernote which is one of the best (if not the best) note taking devices and still you write your notes using pen and paper!
This is a very thoughtful discourse, brother. I appreciate you sharing and articulating these thoughts, and even more appreciate the place your sentiments are coming from. We've got to take care of home first and foremost. I actually wanted to reach out and ask id youd be interested in checking out a product that we made. The company I work with is 100% American, based in Atlanta, GA, but we outsource manufacturing of some of our products to Chinese factories since USA titanium manufacturers are so far out of our league, price-wise. But I goal is to one day be able to manufacture 100% of our own products in-house--fully American made. Your video's been a nice reminder of the kind of conviction we'll need to make that happen, and how amazing the people are who we'll make this shift for.
I believe you should be comparing the Manager to the Classic SD.
Thank you for the video. I believe you stated that your handwriting is not as neat on the device as it is on paper and that you don't feel as connected with your writing. Is this the case for you, and, if so, to what extent?
เสียงพูดเบามาก อยากให้เพิ่มความดังอีกหน่อยครับ
I have a Pocket tool pouch that's 3.5 by 5.5, but it's flat that size, so it's 3 by 5 with 40 screwdriver bits, in 4 different bit holders, bit extenders, a Vim Tools ratchet bit wrench, and Hoto 4mm driver and I barely fit a fire n steel, a 4 inch jigsaw blade and Leatherman Surge file, both for my Victorinox knife, and then I put my Victorinox knife next to the pouch in my pocket. It barely goes in my pocket but it still slides right in. It only has a zipper at the top, so I pile it all up and if I need the bits, everything has to come out, but if I need the bits, I am usually working on something and it's not a huge deal to pull everything out. It keeps everything dry especially since I drive a motorcycle and I was caught in the rain without rain gear a few times. I carry it daily and I barely notice it. It's called the DAILYCARRYCO. EDC Pouch Potato I want to get a good tool pouch for my motorcycle jacket. It's a touring adventure motorcycle jacket, so the pockets are very close to your pouches size. Thanks for sharing this.
Just to explain that the rods are retinal cells. They aren’t stiffening and are absolutely not the cause of your presbyopia. The ciliary muscles are weakening and your crystalline lens is stiffening but the rods have nothing at all to do with it. Rod cells are in your peripheral retina and are most useful in low light and are generally responsible for scotopic (black and white) vision.
I think I might start keeping a "use journal" (or several) for keeping track of what I use on my SwissChamp. I might also extend the idea to other things like my clothes. The idea would be to go through it later and figure out what I need based on what I actually use.
Thumbs up for the chill voice and doing things your own way :)
