    It always baffles me a little why we seem to be preoccupied with how many customers we have?..i suppose its a gauge of how well your doing, but to me its about turnover and value per customer. We also found it better to move to monthly rather than 4 weekly, we also reduced our client base, then increased everyone price, so our turnover stayed the same, but we had less work to do

    • @CrystalCleanWindows
      @CrystalCleanWindows Pƙed 10 hodinami

      That’s a good point, same as how many cleans we do in a day, houses are all different sizes. Like you say it is about the turnover and hopefully low expenses. I think we like to know how many customers we have as a gauge and it is nice to see growth from when we first start. Same turnover less work sounds great, good work life balance.

    You do seem to have reduced the number of passes on the glass - well done, I bet that was hard to adjust your technique. I think you might be able to shave a bit more off by rinsing the whole window at once - look at Sophie at 5:35 she rinses the whole window. Was the conservatory gutters, soffit and fascia a standard thing or a paid extra? Hopefully it was an extra ÂŁÂŁ as I wouldn't clean exterior of gutters/soffit as part of a regular window clean. Great to see you cleaning open windows, windows half covered with plants and difficult ones - not many show that sort of stuff - thanks.

    • @CrystalCleanWindows

      Thanks Ched, it was and still is hard to break the old habit lol but it’s getting there. I am trying to rinse the whole window like Sophie does. She will be glad that you pointed it out so I’ll pass it on. Unfortunately I do clean the gutters on the conservatory cleans. It’s something I did from the start so I will have to live with it My thinking was gutter line down all part of conservatory windows and anything above was part of a conservatory roof clean. I also thought that if a customer saw the gutters nice and clean they may ask if I clean them on the house. So plant the seed tactic. At the time when I first started I also throws to think how a customer would think. I thought they would expect it and I assumed all window cleaners cleaned them. Totally get why that should be a little bit extra as an option though. And if I had thought that way it is something I could manage when speaking on a quote to see their expectations.

    Sorry I missed the live, something came up. Laurie is amazing in his designs and the testing he does (plus has other people test prototypes). His attention to detail and little design features is amazing. He did massive amounts of research in putting the univalve kit together as sourcing a stainless spring that was the correct diameters and strength. When exceed innovations where asked about the rusty springs they said that stainless springs wouldn't work but Rootek designs have a stainless spring that works! The drip stop looks good especially on gutters and soffits etc, might get some of them but I wonder if they fit with the gardiners scraper? Tubless/hoseless works perfect, full kit came with great full colour instructions, been using it for about 18 month to 2 years. Tough connect is between pole and reel hose it covers/protects the rectus connectors. The slick connects are ok but seem a bit brittle. The rectus work as normal - push in then twist to close the tough connector. I would say only useful if you are using some sort of hoseless system. The brush heads are a new thing, not sure but might have been designed because I asked on forum (windowcleaningforums) about brush holders. They do look good and a great way to keep brushes safe.

    Must admit, we have just removed Conny cleaning from our website, i just feel they are a bit of a faff and to be honest, we don't get that many, so i don't feel they justify the stress of pricing etc...Saying that, all our prices for gutter cleaning etc, start from ÂŁ100

    • @CrystalCleanWindows
      @CrystalCleanWindows Pƙed 2 dny

      I do think conny roofs can be funny as some people do not realise what is actually involved and think it will be a quick wipe over! I sometimes think maintenance window cleaning is better than the conny roofs in terms of earning money. The gutters etc are good money earners and customers love that service as it’s not a job they would like to do.

    Hi Rob smooth work as always , I’m still trying to master the not over cleaning !!! I’ve just politely dropped a customer for skipping/not wanting to leave her gate unlocked , most of my Work is 8 weekly so i decided I wasn’t doing cleans every 16weeks,if they are generally good customers i dont mind , is most of your work 4 weekly ? I found 8 weekly alllowed me to Grow my customers and make Room for them in the time I have available and it wasn’t too frequent for them Either but horses for courses and all that !

      Glad it’s not just me with over cleaning lol 😂. Most of my cleans are 4 weekly but I do have a lot of 8 weekly cleans. I think 8 weekly is the way to go to be honest. You can charge a bit more and have more room for customers. I am rural so a lot of my customers prefer 4 weekly due to the fields getting the windows dirty. They find 8 weekly too long.

  • @gerardmcmanus
    @gerardmcmanus Pƙed 3 dny

    Hi Rob. Really enjoying your channel. We barely get any skips. We organise all our customers into rounds. Then clean them in order. We just let our customers know its monthly. If there is restrictions with access, we don't send reminders. We ask to cut a copy of any keys, or it's no service. We just keep a box of keys in the van for locked gates. Our welcome flyers, let's customers know we need 48 hours notice or its a cancellation fee. Much the same as a dentist or many other businesses. I feel your being too nice, and it's costing you. There is no right or wrong way, of course. This is just how we deal with it. All the best from Scotland.

      Hi Ched thank you 🙏 some days are brilliant and some days are harder to do. I try and get my work as compact as I can. I am looking at pricing better but without being to high. Also looking at a minimum charge too.

    • @ched999uk
      @ched999uk Pƙed 8 dny

      @@CrystalCleanWindows Finding the pricing balance is hard. It does depend a bit on how full you are. If you are getting to a full round then new enquiries could be priced higher. I aim to get about 80% of my window cleaning quotes. Minimum charge is a good idea especially as you have 3 in the van, but set it at a decent rate, I have a set amount that covers setup and pack up time, then a per window price (well a window and a large window price) with a minimum of ÂŁ15.

    • @CrystalCleanWindows
      @CrystalCleanWindows Pƙed 11 dny

      Thank you 🙏 I have my flow rate set to 50 at the moment. I used to be on 30 then had it set to 40 for a while. The flow rate though depends on each person’s set up. A good way to find out the flow rate for you would be to use a bucket and your phone as a timer. Change the flow rate settings until you can get 2 litres in a bucket in a minute. For me that is 50 psi. But this will be different on set ups as depends on hose size, how old the pump is type of jets on your brush etc

    That was some arm wrenching conny roof!!! It's such a pity your jobs are so spread out. I would guess you could be hitting almost double what you did on this day with a compact round but you have to work with what you have. I have some early customers that are way under priced too but I feel bad about raising them to where they should be. Great to see some tricky jobs - not many people are willing to show those.

    It's great when you have a good days work that goes well, i know working as a three is not as efficient as have two vans. But this is how we work for now, to grow i need another van on the road Sophie has plans to move.

    No offence intended but theres something really wrong if you are living this hand to mouth with an established business. Either way too many outgoings or underpriced. That said working 3 in a van is terribly inefficent. Ive never needed to work a bank holiday in the 10 yrs ive been window cleaning. I work 4 days a week 6 hours a day and dont spend everything i earn therefore slowly build up a savings pot over time. I never stress about having a holiday or the weather as i work in all weathers all year round.

Sophie will be moving away at some point but that is all on hold at the moment, so I am in limbo.

    Are you 100 % sure that working in 3 ÂŽs is the best way to go ? From my experience of working in pairs... You can earn much more when working alone in most or many cases than if you can in pairs let alone triples.. But you can only do that if you have extra vans on the road. 3 single drivers could earn much more than 1 driver but again it depends on the amount of traveling....In a city it would be much wiser to go alone if making money is your goal ! I would contemplate this or give it ago at least for a few days..... 3 drivers as an example would mean you would be expanding less energy , earning more money and working less hours on the job itself

      Good point and i would agree with you, but my daughter will be moving away soon and she doesn't like driving. Matthew i think would one day drive but he isn't ken to drive the van about yet. Thinking two teams of two in both vans, we didn't get a loan for another van and system because of the cost of living crisis. Wanted to see how it all went before committing to another loan. Need a loan at the moment to get a new soakaway, so a second van will have to wait for know!

    Hi Rob, hope you’re well mate! Are you planning on picking up the ‘day in the life’ type videos? I love watching how other people work and picking up tips/tricks etc. You put so much time and effort into these live videos and although they appeal to a small audience they get a lot less views. I for one love watching the cleaning vids!!Just a thought/request mateđŸ€žđŸ‘

      No problem Matt mate, had a couple of dramas today! Wish i was filming the day, Industrial 85 stopped working on me. Changed fuses, actually in the field stripped the head apart and removed the three motors. Managed to do it and get it all put back together as well. But found out it was a blockage in the hoses that caused it all. Pine needles which are very light so the hoses didn't feel like it was blocked. Once sorted it ran well, all happened on the first job. Battled through and got all the work complete.

    Hi Rob, I’m Guilty of over cleaning , double checking and faffing about !! I’ve tried to tweek to things a bit to speed up but at the same time it’s worked so far and enabled me to keep the customers I have and get recommended, guess it’s just finding that balance , I think we will always be our own worse critics , I’m sure the customers don’t notice half of what we would spot when checking our work, keep up the good work đŸ‘đŸ» Ps I have vowed never to do builders cleans again!! Each to their own though

    Hi Robb. Spot on the right water flow for the job is key Not pressure. The ideal is the right flow rate at the lowest pressure so a larger ID hose will carry more water at a lower pressure . The ideal is a curtain of water flowing across the glass. To much flow at high pressure can see water bouncing of the glass and pull debris of the window surround. Also agree that the larger teh ID hose the less strain is placed on the pump. A controller allows the pump to work only as heard as is needed saving battery power and water

    The thing that will speed you up the most is having a second van, the problem with having 3 people in the van is that you end up having significantly more downtime, with packing up and setting up. One person on a house is a lot more efficient as most of their time is spent actually cleaning.

    • @CrystalCleanWindows
      @CrystalCleanWindows Pƙed 22 dny

      I have talked about a second van for a couple of years lol. But Sophie will be moving away soon. Something has come up to put that in limbo but she will move away. So that’s why I haven’t took the plunge.

    Another great video. I always use a TFR now in the backpack and a separate pole with a spray nozzle on. I think it saves more time than it takes to set up the extra pole. Do you use your window cleaning brush on the gutters?

    Really interesting here. I use a flow rate of 50 with a trolley system with a hose reel attached. I get through too much water so investing in a van system.

    • @CrystalCleanWindows
      @CrystalCleanWindows Pƙed 25 dny

      We tried 50 psi on the 45 Litre trolly, Sophie fely she was using to much water. I think with a van mounted system 50 psi will be good as you have the water for a days work. Adivce i have been given is that 500 litre tank is not for a 2 man set-up. Should be enough for one person though.

    I literally use the nylon $80 brush with pencil jets and I use my junior trad pole that I set up as a waterfed pole system with a 30 ft line connected to it with a quick connect. Anything that is first story or ranch. I use this first and foremost light. Easy to maneuver. No fatigue. Same results and it's a cheap setup for first floor window cleaning
