Incredible Find: Archbishop Lefebvre’s Relic? Antique Book Restoration
Depending on who you ask, Archbishop Lefebvre is either a figure admired or reviled. He founded the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X and was a champion for the preservation of the Traditional Latin Mass - The Mass of the Ages. In this video, I restore this antique Graduale Romanum which is used for referencing chants during Holy Mass. Surprisingly, it also contains his autograph and perhaps will be a relic one day. Deo Volente.

Jesus, My Unexpected Eucharistic Visitor
zhlédnutí 606Před měsícem
Jesus was my unexpected visitor hidden within the pages of this Victorian era book! The USCCB has called for a Eucharistic Revival in response to the massive decline of belief of Jesus' presence in the Eucharist, but is it enough in a world that has grown cold in devotion and love for Him? I hope you will follow me and this unique bookbinding restoration project which will be given to one speci...

This Saint Patrick's Manual was gifted to me by the daughter of a book collector. It belonged to a Harrison Colton from Lockport, New York and it was dated 1883. This video is the culmination of a three part series of my work to conserve this unique victorian Catholic prayer book for my personal collection. 00:31 - Straightening the brass 04:09 - Cutting the marbled paper for endpages 05:40 - S...

Old World, Restored. Prayer Book Restoration
zhlédnutí 4,5KPřed měsícem
Join me as I venture to restore the scriptural treasures of the 'Old World' using both modern and traditional #bookbinding and #preservation techniques. As the Latin Mass sees its resurgence, many are looking to restore their old hand missals and more. Do you have an antique book in your collection?
I appreciate this ❤ Amazing ! Thank you
Amen, Rudy. Amen 🙏🏼
Well said, sir! God bless you
You did an excellent job in restoring the Liber Usualis, which is a book of the liturgical chants of the Roman Rite year. I know what it is because I own one myself, having been part of the schola at a SSPX chapel for some years. If you have a chance, come visit St. Mary's, KS, and our new Immaculata Church. The bookstore on the main street perhaps sells some of these books you are restoring. God bless.
This is actually a Graduale Romanum but don’t ask me what the difference is lol. I’d love to come visit the Immaculata!!
What are you using?
Wheat paste
ca. 2.25. Fr Francois Laisney, SSPX is currently teaching catechesis here in the UK. I've shared this with him.
Amazing! I wonder if he knows who Dom Gatard OSB was. He made several notes in this Graduale. Please send Fr Laisney my greetings!
Incredible!! What a fruitful restoration
Very well-made video! I appreciated the alternations between book work and commentary. It flowed well. I personally would have loved to see even more of the restoration process, as I could tell there was a lot you probably decided to cut from the final video. I'm fascinated by the process and can tell you are a master!
Thanks Anthony. I do have a more in depth restoration video on my channel if you’re interested. It’s a prayer book from the early 1800s.
He was predicted in the prophesies of Nuestra Señora del Buen Suceso de la Purifcation
I’ll have to look into it. Wild if true!
Dude. You’re a legend for doing this
Kennedy Hall everybody! Thanks for the kind words brother.
Beautiful work. May God bless you in preserving and promoting the worth and retention of Christian culture and treasures.
Thank you for the encouragement. May God bless your efforts!
A work of art Rudy, fantastic job. As Colleen said, Archbishop Lefebvre, ora pro nobis.
Great video on the craftsmanship of book restoration and commentary on Abp Lefebvre! What a treasure you have in that book!
Santo subito!
Archbishop Lefebvre, Ora pro nobis!!!
I enjoyed this video very much! 🙏From seeing you work with so much thought, care and skill to the way you shared your thoughts about the Mass, and fatherhood and Abp. Lefebvre, it was truly special, as is the book that you've restored. Wonderful!! 👏👏👏 Deo gratias for Abp. Lefebvre! 🙏And my prayers for you and your family.
Thank you so much!
What a fascinating vocation you have. Quite possibly, the good Archbishop Lefevbre will be canonized some day.
Let me grab my tub of popcorn... Ready for the status quo ordo Catholics from st. typical's to blast you as a schismatic in the comments... Beautiful cinematography and I love the story you told with this restoration! Salve Maria! May God bless Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX.
Wonderful. It is not just the book which is so beautifully restored, but the treasure that is Holy Mother Church. This is the most moving video I have seen in a very long time. Thank you and God bless you.
Very awesome.
Hmmm, I could use my spline setter for a really cheap version. 😊
Oh man I’m saving that tip!! Thanks!
Any devout Roman Catholic would be truly blessed to have that book in their home. I look forward to seeing the restoration, and you have a new subscriber. <3
It is impressive!
Do you have to put some sort of sealant over the gold after it’s been tooled into the leather to keep it from flaking?
Typically no. This is gold heat activated foil so it adheres pretty well. Old school gold tooling with real gold was adhered with an egg white base and seldom flakes off.
👍💕🇺🇸
It's very interior me as I have old family books and old books I have bought that need attention, but are only worth something to me, so seeing this makes me think I might be able to find put more Nd maybe repair some of the issues my old books have and of cause the first question I have is what to uses eg, glue do I use that will do no further harm to the books. Paperwise I know about archival, acid free paper, but there's a lot to think about and find out before I touch anything 😊 Thank you for showing us your work, every old book is worth keeping and not either throwing away or cutting up for scrap type books 😢
Breaks my heart to see old books cut up for scrap. If you’re looking to repair your books I suggest using starch paste. It’s reversible.
I see you have covered up the information on the inside covers. Surely that is part of the history of the book. Is it now lost or can your work be undone and Mr Harrison's name and 1883 be restored? Nice to watch you work Malik
A prayer card will be made with his information.
Truly magestic!
Such a thoughtful and considerate restoration. A pleasure to watch your skills. When you mentioned Abp. Lefebvre, I subscribed! Deo gratias. [from a Catholic in the UK.]
Santo Subito! Lol. He’s in my head canon. Are you in London proper? There’s an address in the book he signed but it seems to be a home address and I’m wondering if it was some sort of underground TLM community.
Would you be willing to restore a couple of books for me? One is my great grandmothers copy of Mary Our Hope and the other is my great grandmothers Bible. I would love to have them both preserved.
Yes absolutely. My email is rcphotographic@gmail.com
Thank you for your reverent care of our Lord!
Felsita
Awesome!! I’ve got an old family Bible that needs repair…interesting to watch that the old cover can be salvaged!
Oh yes! Most covers can be salvaged and touched up. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful work. I’m a seminarian who enjoys bookbinding (I recently helped my pastor rebind some Missals. Haha)
Praying for you!
Very meditative video! I watched this as an artist. I have two old Bibles that need restoring. I am able to do it myself, as I can study what I need to do. What did you use for the cosmetic repair between the outside the spine cover and the two outside front and back covers? Do you use rabbit glue, wheat paste, or archival pva glue? What kind and weight paper did you use to attach the parts together? I know about using book binding cloth. But it seems you were using paper? Before watching this, I might have tried to repair it while open, but I guess that would make it too tight (or loose), and it would tear. Did you apply the marbled paper last?
Thanks for watching! I used an Asian long grain paper called Kozo. As far as glue goes, it really depends on the application. I was performing this repair outside of the conservation territory. If I was conserving I’d use something reversible like wheat starch paste. Kozo paper is very strong. You can use cloth as well but this is what I had on hand. Marbled pages were cut and sewn into the text block and rounded and backed along with the rest of the spine. Yes you’re right, doing the repair while the book is open tends to make the covers dry too loose and again puts stress on the spine when the book is stood up for storage.
I have a 100+ yr old Catholic encyclopedia that would be great for you to restore. How do I get in touch?
Send me an email! Rcphotographic@gmail.com
Very Interesting! What kind of paper and glue do you use? Thanks!
Thank you! The glue and paper depends on whether or not you’re doing pure conservation or fixing for use. In this case I used PVA and wheat paste glue and a paper called Kozo which is an Asian long grain paper. It’s very strong. I also used a piece of Kozo to dye match the color of the book when I hid the seams.
So beautiful
Thank you! This missal will serve another generation or two!
What an amazing story! I just found your vlog yesterday when trying to find info in restoring an old cookbook for my daughter. I look forward to many more episodes. Blessings to you and your family. Amen to Jesus🙏
Thank you for subscribing! Feel free to reach out if you need help fixing your cookbook. I have all the tips and tricks.
Only the priest can touch Christ? What about the woman who bled? What about the blind man? I understand honoring the Eucharist as best I can, but not being able to touch Christ? How can that be so?
I know it might be hard to understand with how widespread and engrained Communion on the hand is but it is a novelty that is directly contributing to the loss of belief in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Wonderful, thank you for sharing. God Bless you and yours
Likewise!
My hope is that you have provided a way recover the provance of this 143 year old Holy Relic. With your tender care this Relic may out last your descents. Beautiful work. Congratulations on making it into a family heirloom.
Thanks! I intend on making a prayer card for Mr. Harrison Colton.
Amazing!!…I can’t help but marvel at your skill and care you tend to restoring the book. The shop sounds are well orchestrated with life as well as the bird singing her song.
Thank you for your encouragement! Imagine what Saint Joseph's shop sounded like?
😳💯💯💯
First, can we see a picture of the host that you found??!! That’s crazy! Also, I have an old book from my grandma. A Catholic compendium of popular essays and Catholic dictionaries in 1910. I found funeral souvenirs and pressed flowers. So moving to find and wonder about. Someday, I’ll be able to afford a repair on the book.
Sorry but I didn't feel it was appropriate to film or take pictures of the Echaristic fragment. I did want to film our priest consuming the host though! Just wasn't appropriate.
This is really cool! I knew hair was a big deal in the Victorian times as Momentos, and I read that they have St. Therese’s hair saved at her monastery. I think they had St. Zelie’s hair saved as well when she died.
Such a touching story, Rudy. May God bless you always.
