I filmed this after a night of heavy rains in the Monticello Delhi, IA area on July 24, 2010. This was filmed from my In-laws cabin as the Lake Delhi Damn was breached. Minutes before the dam broke and after the dam broke, debris was floating by from boats to docks and propane tanks. Truly sad and it took years for the lake to return but it did. Nice video jeff
Thank you Nancy.
That last train shot in June of 93 was a little bit surreal to me, mainly because I know exactly where it was shot, because I grew up in that town. Your footage of CNW in Clinton and in this general area is a huge help to me, as I'm trying to model the Northwestern in the mid 1980s right through this exact area.
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Good video. Thanx a great railfanning location.
Thank you, it’s a great location.

Absolutely baffles me that the C39-8’s truly had their own issues when they were built back in 1985 flames with occasionally shoot out the turbo charger because of unburned fuel in the manifold
GE has always had that problem.
Nice catches!
Thank you.
Your welcome @@jefftoft5568!
Thx Jeff. There is actually an orphaned UP operation in Winona, left over from the CNW days. They switch the barge loading facilities of Harvest States and ADM, also a big flour mill and some other riverside businesses.
Thanks for watching Bob.
More great train footage Jeff enjoyed the video and have a wonderful upcoming weekend. Steve
Thank you Steve, you do the same.

Thanks Steve, it was a neat trip. Thanks for watching.
@@jefftoft5568 you're very welcome and cool indeed.
I rode on this train 3 or 4 years ago. It was very scenic and a lot of fun.
Yep, very enjoyable trip. Great scenery. Thanks for watching Bob.
I didn’t know this railroad and their iconic GP9’s existed until this video.
Excellent trip, you will have to check it out sometime. Highly recommend.
Very nice! How many SD40Ns are operating at North Platte at the same time? Also, those locomotives coupled to each SD40N are SD38s? And why do they have flat roofs, i.e. no cooling fans?
Those are slugs getting power from the SD40, former SD40 with no engine. They don’t need cooling fans, strictly using the traction motors. The slug with no cab is an SD38 I was told. My guess for SD40N s at North Platte is probably 10 to 12.
What a Cool looking Locomotive and its Running. Who wouldn’t want an Old Caboose on their Property. 👍🙏
It was a cool ride, highly recommend. Thanks for watching Ken.
Great video Jeff
Thank you Ed, thanks for watching.
Awesome
Thank you Nancy.
Good footage at Moffat Tunnel.
Thank you, a lot of things to obstruct your vision at that end of the tunnel. Thanks for watching.
BTW, since it's not mentioned in the video description, the slug sets are the pairs of SD40-2s. The locomotives with the 300-series numbers are the mothers (e.g., UPY 361, near the start of the video), and the 400-series locomotives are the slugs (e.g., UPY 461). At first glance, there's not much visual difference between these slugs and regular locomotives but, at a second look, you see that there are no fans on the roof and the dynamic brakes have been removed. They still have fully functioning cabs, so the pair can be easily driven in either direction. There's also a more traditional slug at 9:06 -- UPY3006, converted from a CNW SD38-2 but with completely new cut-down bodywork. The point of slugs in general is that power = force x speed. There's only so much force you can put through six axles before the wheels start to slip so, at any given speed, there's a maximum power you can apply before the wheels slip. At the low speeds used in switching, that maximum power is a lot less than the 3,000hp available from an SD40-2. Adding a slug doubles the number of axles, so doubles the amount of force that can be applied, and lets you use more of the available power. The down-side is that the maximum speed of the slug set is much lower than a pair of SD40-2s, but that's irrelevant for switching.
Thanks for the info, I know most of that except for the cut down slug. A lot of times people don’t even read the description they just watch the video. So I try not to get too carried away in the description. I figure most fans know an SD40. But the info is appreciated just don’t know how many would take the time to read it in our quick scroll world these days. Thanks for watching.
Pure luck of the draw getting 6706 in the consist. Nice catches Jeff
Thank you sir, I was definitely surprised to see it. Thanks for watching UPDetector.

Largest Railroad Yard in the World and the Overall Scope of this Yard is Off the Charts Impressive. Ever thought about Millions of Gallons of Fuel being Distributed ? 🤔👍
Thanks for watching Ken
You have to Wonder Why the Rocky Mountaineer Can’t utilize their Units in Colorado when they’re able to use them across Canada. You have to wonder Why ?
Not familiar with that, thanks for watching.
they may have purchased some SD70M's from UP too.
Tunnel has an Efficient Ventilation System to keep Dangerous Fumes under control, Amtrak has Strict Policy on Staying Inside your Passenger Car while in Tunnel. 🤔👍
Thanks for watching Ken.
Nice! Those SD70ms look great, but idk why up put them into storage.
They aren’t the choice of power, they are getting old. Thanks for watching.
