Fortunately, our part of town was spared the worst. Which makes for less spectacular footage. No power outages or downed trees immediately around us.
A 210 kilometer ride around Madison
zhlédnutí 93Před 2 měsíci
I rode my first "permanent" of the year. A permanent is a randonneuring ride that you can do by yourself, at any time. The route, called Familiar Faces, took me from Madison through Lake Mills, Cambridge, Stoughton, Oregon, and Mount Horeb. I finished the ride in under 10 hours, which was a very respectable time for me.
Chicago to Madison, by train and fixed gear
zhlédnutí 65Před 3 měsíci
On part 2 of my journey, I take Amtrak from Chicago to Milwaukee and then bike back to Madison. My legs and butt were getting increasingly tired, and the route was not as scenic and quiet as day 1. But I made it!
From Madison to Chicago by fixed gear and train
zhlédnutí 104Před 3 měsíci
Madison (WI) doesn't have passenger rail. So to get to Chicago, you need to take the bus or drive. Or ride your bike to the nearest train station. I rode my fixie to the Metra station in Harvard, IL and then took the Metra train into Chicago. Stay tuned for another video, covering the ride back.
Hyde's Mill Ride

My friend Kevin organized a nice little ride west of Madison. We started at Blue Mound State Park, climbed out of and descended back into many hollows before reaching historic Hyde's Mill. I decided to ride back to Madison from the park, as there was a fierce wind from the west! A very nice route, but bring your climbing legs! strava.app.link/axjv2Ukx1Hb
New intersection, old problems: University Ave at University Bay/Farley
zhlédnutí 46Před 5 měsíci
The University Ave reconstruction in Madison, Wisconsin is on hold during the winter, but much of the intersection at Farley Ave and University Bay Drive is in its final state. We can now see how some of the design choices work in practice. Spoiler: They don't work great for people crossing the intersection on foot. Given that this intersection sees a lot of foot traffic from the bus stops and ...

So fun to watch! Thanks for taking the time to edit and post this.
Also, note that the City is experimenting with different light patterns. The one in your video has Farley and University Bay share a green light, just like pre-construction. That was a minor nightmare for left-turning cars at rush hour and for ped crossings all day long. But the City has also had times where Farley and U-Bay each get their own phase with a green + left turn light, just like Midvale Ave did pre-construction. The separate greens worked great, especially in combination with the new large east-side ped refuge. I hope they keep make the separate phases permanent.
The split phase was due to construction staging. It adds a lot of time to the cycle and increases delay. The common green is likely to stay, but some other changes to separate crosswalk users and SBLT drivers may be coming to address the concern mentioned, but not shown here.
The NTOR sign is much too high to be seen from most vehicles. Drivers at the slip lane stop line see only the erroneous "Turning Vehicles Yield To Peds" sign, which suggests that turning on red is okay. City T.E. has indicated they will remove the yield sign. Hopefully they move the NTOR sign down into its place.
I reminded the city that they still haven't fixed the contradictory signs. I was promised action within the next two weeks.

Thanks for showing how this works. I bought my Mom one of these and she only used it twice because her balance wasn't good anymore due to age. Do you know how much a mint AutoStream is worth today? 2021?
I wouldn't get my hopes up high. These are not exactly sought-after collector items, and if anything people may be turned off by the uncommon transmission that may be hard to find spare parts for.
@@hobbesvsboyle is spent an entire day trying to find one or anything similar. In the end I wanted to just buy a bike and take the bub out and put it on a new bike
too much pedal rpm to shift, it should shift earlier
I know this video is a bit old, but do you have any thoughts on where to buy a spare belt for these?
I unfortunately don't have the bike any more and can't tell what exact belt it is. Disraeli Gears has a bunch of related documents, but I don't see a model specification for the belt. www.disraeligears.co.uk/Site/Documents_-_AutoBike.html
The wheel wobbles like crazy, did you notice that?
Yes, my Mom noticed that too, a lot of play in the steering. I had no problem with it.
will that hurt the derailer by having it in 6th gear and not pedaling..i would think over time something will break
Este sistema de cambios no parece efectivo para la ciudad. Tardó mucho en bajar de un cambio suave a uno duro. Costaría mucho esfuerzo salir de un semáforo hasta llegar a la velocidad crucero.
Cool video

Great video!
Hello, sir, I am a mechanical engineer and I had chosen the project of auto stream shifting for the bike so I want your help to give Information about your mechanism...
what information: that it depends on wheel rpm and shifts in wrong time, one big input is torq or force on pedal that can vary same as rpm, so you need computer with data base like ecu in car, to cover all condition and still it will not know what is driver intention
If you use 6' or so of surgical tubing on the end of your tow rope as a bungee, it takes the shock out of the pull and makes the pulling the snowboards easier.
What a great idea and video!!
I just bought one of these yesterday at a yard sale..I'm anxious to try it out. Right now it's soaking in penetrating oil for a few days, Is the 2000 the year they were made ? Were they made for more than one year ? Thank Yoy for posting this !
If you aren't using it anymore can I buy it off you?
