This is the second time in a few years that the Keertana produced that kind of race flow, with Dalika pulling a similar Precious Passion impression in 2021. That one nearly pulled it off though.

Two questions: 1) Has anyone tried to standardize the starting point at half mile tracks? It might make comparisons easier. 2) Does the composition and configuration of the soil used on the tracks make a difference? If so, how do we find out more information about how the tracks are put together and maintained?

Harness racing condition racing @ 13:28. Harness racing conditions are a joke. From a recent program at Woodbine Mohawk: "3 YEAR OLDS: NW $5,500 (OS $7,500) LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES. AE: 3 YO N/A $175 P/S IN 2024". Really? Where did the $175 per start come from? Is a horse that made $175 per start in 2024 actually better than one who raced twice and didn't make anything? I read the conditions and have no idea how some of the horses qualified for the race. Instead of focusing on non-winners, it might be better to write conditions based on winners of $X over the past 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days or winners of $X over the past Y starts, similar to the way conditions for allowance races are written for thoroughbreds. I think it would give the betting public a clearer idea of who was in the race. In the meantime, consider glancing at conditions and focus instead on purse size. In other words, a horse that racing for a $17,000 purse is more likely to be facing stiffer competition than a horse racing for a purse of $16,000. But the harness folks are in love with their non-winners of $X formula, and there's no changing them...

I'm blown away by how much Dan Illman knows about Harness Racing. He's a very intelligent handicapper. As for those of you who disparage his record at picking winners, keep in mind that 1) He's predicting races days before post time; 2) His job requires him to pick horses in races where key variables are unknown (low price, unreliable claimers; maiden races where you might have workouts but no past performances; maiden claiming where the owner and trainer have basically given up on the horse; stakes races where multiple winners are plausible because the horses are equal in talent.); 3) Because he picks early, he misses out on key indicators on the day of the race like weather, jockey changes, claims, tote board odds, & scratches. Like all professional handicappers, his advice should be used as an introduction to the race. You're better off betting what you know, not what Dan or some other handicapper is telling you days before the race is run.

I like it I'm going to throw a couple dollars down on it just for the fun of it.

Mike. How can you not give STG a chance in the Belmont? Maybe on paper he'll be facing a few "better" horses, but he faced a few better horses in the Preakness and blew them away. He's going to follow in his father (Arrogate) and long lost brother (Arcangelo) and at least be competitive in the Belmont. At least give the horse some credit.

Congrats to any of you who selected Seize the Grey to win. I'd like to know how you settled on this horse. Alternative facts led me to a different play: Mystik Dan over Catching Freedom. Close, but no cigar. A real fact is that DRF honors their promise of a free DRF hat if they tell you you're going to get one. DRF is a class act. They do what they say they're going to do. I enjoy doing business with them.
