My resume following this advice: Blank. I haven't worked in over 10 years due to physical disability. My husband's resume following this advice: Blank. He started his current job 28 years ago. It's good advice - IF it's relevant to the country you work in and/or the country you want to work in. They aren't all the same. Better to consult a local recruitment agency for the current best practice.
Hope you find the right recruiter in your location. All the best!
Very helpful. Thank you Matts!
My pleasure, thanks for commenting!
Thank u for this video. I have a question. So just got my background check report for a job. On the SSN it said Closed- no data found. What does that really mean? Will they deny me employment cuz of that? Thank u in advance.
Hi Joel, Though I'm not 100% sure what it means without further context, I would assume it means no issues/records were found with your SSN (which is good news)?
I am taking away the true value of ownership to shift the mind set of the situation…Well done and Thank You…
Thanks for commenting. Agree - I believe taking ownership is one of the most powerful prerequisites for transformation. All the best.
Bit if ir cv is that long won't you be like super qualified
Can i pull this out from my own computer?
I was recently let go yesterday for "poor performance". I was given a termination notice, but the reason for the termination is not indicated in the notice (so it can be interpreted as a layoff). The reason was communicated to me verbally by HR, not by management. The question is, should I even bother with giving an explanation, or should I simply state that I was laid off? I can definitely explain the termination (as it involved management decisions that led to my having to work a miracle in order to deliver results, which of course didn't happen - I am trying hard not to blame the employer, but it is what it is).
Sorry to hear that... If the topic of the layoff comes up during the interview, you would want to provide some sort of context or reason. If you can explain your layoff for reasons such as downsizing, cost-cutting, reorg, etc., that would be ideal. If not, I would explain the impossible circumstances (requirements, projects, deadline, etc.) as the reason (rather than blaming the employer). In other words, if you have to, blame the circumstances rather than the employer. Hope it helps. All the best.
Interesting analysis !! Could you suggest better ways- if making big money in corporate world as engineer or in general is the only goal which path is the most suitable to adopt and how like earning promotions quicker, climbing ladder etc or remaining in same position ? Also how is it possible for me in initial stage of career to demand promotions or high pay after 6 months or a year by solving any of their major problems.. does any books on creativity or innovation thinking examples work drastically well in advancing rapid growth ..
Do you have to add a job that you resigned from after 2months? Will that come up in the background check?
Thanks for your comment. Will it come up in the bg check? It depends on a number of factors - such as how thoroughly the employer decides to check, what documents the bg company may require and what data they may already have... It's entirely possible the new employer may miss the 2-month job (and many people do get away with it). But at the same time, many people also get in trouble for the same reason, so it's risky. I normally recommend job seekers not to omit their previous work (especially if it's the most recent job) as long as they can provide some reasonable explanation for leaving.
What happens if it’s some crappy volunteer job? I worked a lot of volunteer jobs when I was a college student and post college. It was the only way for me to gain any kind of “industry experience;” however, I feel it’s detrimental due to these background checks becoming a factor. How do you display it during an interview? How do you display it on LinkedIn (without putting it in the volunteer section)?
Thanks for your question. To clarify, do you want to include or remove your volunteer experiences from your cv? Also, what do you mean by displaying your experience during an interview?
@@elevationcareersorry for the miscommunication. I meant displaying jobs on a resume and LinkedIn profile. If a potential employer reference checks me, that volunteer experience wouldn’t show up? To clarify, those volunteer jobs had taken up much of my time and labor when I had minimal to little work experience.
@@camidonahue8882 If I understand you correctly, you want to mention your volunteer experience in your resume & LinkedIn but you do not want them to show up during background checks? How about mentioning them under the "Voluntary Experience" section? Most companies do not verify voluntary (non-paid) experience during background checks - as long as you have some proof (letter, email) to demonstrate your voluntary work, it should be fine.
Some good tips in this video! Nice.
Yeahhhh, I basically make all of the unnatural eye mistakes you mentioned hahaha
haha it happens... hope you found the video helpful!
@@elevationcareer yes I did!
I dotn want a female to desgin my house no thank you
Introvert vs extrovert, you're basically saying introverts can't do any jobs.
I listed something and the boyscouts just retracted the offer, and plan to sue for failure to do a civil background check.
What if it’s a pending case ???…
thanks for this video bro ^^ finally this is exactly what I am looking for...
Great to hear that! All the best!
Currently I received a job offer , but I didn’t mention a job from a 4 years ago that was in for 7 months . And I didn’t mention my current employer of 7 months . Am I screwed ?
The job 4 years ago probably is not a big deal. However, the current job could be an issue if the new employer decides to do some background checks. Of course, it's possible some companies choose not to check, or they'll miss it. The key is being careful not to supply any info, such as tax, that may indicate you're currently working. Hope they won't check too thoroughly. Wish you the best.
@@elevationcareer thank you for the reply ! Unfortunately they will do an employment check . I waited four months to get an offer, many interviews and studying and my dumb mistake will cost me :/ it’s for the finance industry and they are pretty thorough . I had recruiter friend tell me to leave it off to highlight my skills more- last time I do that
@@FromThePack I see... the finance industry is definitely more strict... all the best. Some companies are more relaxed than others so hopefully it will work out for you. To be safe, I would wait until the bg check is completed before resigning from the current job.
if you want additional insight/help, feel free to reach out - support@elevationcareer.com
@@FromThePackWhat happened?
Hi there, thank you for the video. I do have many short term contracts and assignment on my resume. Just to clarify, should I add a an explanation for why each job ended for all short term assignments and contracts that I held? Or should I need explanation for perm jobs that ended within a few months?
My pleasure, thanks for your comment. I wouldn't provide explanations for short-term assignments or contract positions normally. I would just indicate that they were short-term/contract positions and leave it at that. But for perm positions with short durations, I would definitely try to provide some explanations. Hope it helps. All the best.
I was unsuited for the job . I want to work here 😊...tell me more.. thats it..
I lost job due to contact end 6 months ago, and on resume I am saying I am still working there to fill up gap, does it come up in backgroud check?
Sorry to hear about the contract ending. Regarding your question, it will show up if the new employer decides to check; and most companies tend to verify the last employment record...
My employer ran out of money and could not pay our wages.
I want to leave because my job sucks
Career goal - easy job with decent pay.
Companies shouldn't expect employees to "to put in extra hours and extra effort". If you want that, pay your employees extra. Also if someone would rather spend their time with family/friends/themselves it's called normal and healthy.
Agreed!
LITERALLY the entire world is motivated by money with very few exceptions. The one interviewing is FOR SURE NOTHING BUT MONEY MINDED
How about volunteering?
Not mentioning volunteer experience (non-paid) in the resume is perfectly fine.
What if you were accused of a crime but not charged? Does that show up? (Edit) guy was arrested but never proven guilty
"Why weren't you already paying me this much?"
Exactly! 😆
Hello, they checks the responsibilities that you have on your previous job????
No. Employers can only go over the dates worked and the position at most. They cannot say more than that. If they do you can sue. Since they are jeopardizing your life and how you will make income to provide.
Can they know weither someone get fired, laid off,... will they tell the new job?
They can. most employers will divulge such information when BG checks companies contact them.
Got fired from a job i started 3 for weeks, as i refused to accommodate their post employment checks
Oh man, sorry to hear that...
😋 'Promo SM'
What if I missed mentioning a job on resume that I resigned from within 2 months and now the future employer wants to know what did I do during those 2 months?
Extend the period that you worked at that job. There aren’t going to ask the previous job when you left. I’ve done it for years just extend the time you worked there. Always put when you started there.
They probably wont ask about a two month gap. U dont need to add short lived jobs.
Bro i have heard that Co-workers are not your friend so how to build relationships at work to succeed faster than normal as it is said that network is networth ? Could you explain what one should be doing strategically in order to increase value & influence without being trapped in taking unwise steps..
Hi Mohib, I would start by building and investing in relationships with a few people whom you can trust or who can help you (and with the rest, just focus on getting along). The key to successful, networking is focusing on how you can help others and be useful to them (rather than how they can help you). As you seek to add value and continue to invest in relationships, you will find that others will be genuinely willing to support you and help you grow in the long run. Networking is a long game.
@@elevationcareer Thanks a Ton 😊 Could you recommend me some best books to read around this topic...

A. No. B. NOOOOOOOoOOOOOO.
😂 time to go then!
I think you should always lie so it becomes mainstream. Seriously
Hi, So i got my offer letter already and the company that gave the offer letter is going to process the background check. if they find a arrest last year which they will. Can they withdraw the offer of employment?
Hi... That's a tricky situation. Most of the time the employer would withdraw the offer. But it also depends on the company policy. Depending on the severity of the reason for the arrest, they may choose not to withdraw. If possible, I suggest seeking some legal advice on this matter because each location and jurisdiction will have its own law, as well as, potential means to remove criminal records especially for minor misdemeanors.
Awesome ❤
When I don't value your privacy you loose.
We have uniforms, all covered in dirt, one more than the other. THAT is a job.
I have a daughter that was in bar business. She got a job at a bank. Well, she has a size 14 shoe and its hard to find affordable shoes. Shes a single mom in the middle of a paradigm shift with great career oppertunity. I found out that she was whereing flip flops to work! 😱 i explained to her basically what your saying...we bought her some nice shoes in her size for Christmas. She cried...alot😊 now shes on her way!❤
What a beautiful gift and a beautiful story. Congratulations and all the best to her!
Never had a background check ask my salary. Not even for security cleareances.
Yup, depends on where (what country/state) the BG check is conducted - it would be relevant in countries where BG check includes salary.
Love this Matt ! Super informative and encouraging as I am currently updating my resume. Optimisation is key!
Great to know, thanks for your comment!
I was terminated from one of the job. Will my BG check will show that I was terminated? During the interview I told them that I was laid off. I finally got the offer letter after 2 months of on-site interview and currently going through background check
Thanks for your questions. Just to clarify, when you say "terminated", do you mean fired? And how recent was this? If they do verify with the previous firm, they will be able to find out. But depending on the reason for termination and/or how long ago it was, they may not check or even care that much...
I'm dealing with a unique situation, I'm 55, been at the same company for 30 years, I'm in the pension system. Recently they stopped offering the pension to new hires, simultaneously they out of the blue decided I now suck. So it's a disguised restructuring.
Oh, and went on a hiring spree of new low paid employees that don't get a pension.
Oh man, sorry to hear that. That's terrible... The level of integrity with some of these companies is really appalling. Are you asking how you should explain your situation during an interview?
@@elevationcareer yeah, I think just being straight up sounds reasonable. I mean, being at someplace for 30 years shows dedication I would think
@@callmeishmaelk767 yes i agree! 30 years certainly demonstrates dedication.
I like how the cons have a longer explanation than the pros 🙂 Always look forward to a brighter future! Remember all the good times and don’t look back!
