Performance - 0:56 Here we have a beautiful and relaxed improvisation over the chords to Chan Chan. D minor - F - G minor and A7. This is also a good example of trying NOT to play when the master is playing. I was just blown away by El Lento and couldn't help but try to get in on the jam but if you have a chance to study with a master I recommend just letting them work. There are many cool thin...

The chord progression at its basic from is D7 and G Major which is just a V7 to I chord progression in the key of G Major but, El Lento really demonstrates his amazing ability to superimpose chordal ideas, play "upper Structure Triads" and play "outside" the underlying ha...

Very nice lesson, but what you teach doesn't correspond to the PDF provided. Part A corresponds ok, but then you depart into something quite different and I daresay simpler, which is fine with me. I had to get out my chord stamp and write out the rest of what you do. Can I actually sing the song along with this? That I'll have to see.
Ohhhh... that's so fantastic
thank you so much for this!! super helpful
My pleasure!
Woah I’ve always felt this was so hard but you make it so simple. I can finally play this! Thank you!!
You're so welcome!
I’ve been playing guitar since the late 60s. Mostly rock, pop, and country. This style is a new challenge! Lots of new chord shapes… I WILL get this! Great lesson - THANKS!
Thank you! Good luck on your new journey.
@@MichaelMcClintockMusic Thank you Sir!
I have been playing for only a month but, every bossa nova song comes so easy to me like they are inside my brain, maybe its because I've listened to them a million times or maybe because they match with the greek rhythm in music( l am greek) but, anyways thank you so much sir for teaching such a beautiful piece
My pleasure!
Cero mención a las cuerdas, sobre todo al blanquito guapo y rico. Y ls vocales. Guau.
¡Muchas gracias! Me alegra que le haya gustado nuestra presentación.
Great lesson. It would be nice to hear you play the version at the correct speed though.
Hey Micheal, Just want to say that I'm infinitely thankful for all your guitar tutorials. I feel more confident as a musician with your content and you teach at just the right pace for me to grasp the content!
Thank you very much!!
Very good❤ finally explenation clear and simple in a beautifull but complex ❤. Thank you
Thank you!
Amazing! I would say that you're showing too much pick, but for a solo like this, all it shows is that your picking technique works for you. Keep up the good work!
Is it okay if I use acoustic guitar stings for tres cubano?
Absolutely.
@@MichaelMcClintockMusic thank you so much for your reply which guitar string (E, A, D, G, B, E) should I install for each position on the tres cubano G4-G3 - C4-C4 - E4-E4 ? for example: should I replace the thin G string with an E (since the G string of the guitar is thick)?
Please teach Triste
Will do. Which key would you like it in?
Thank you for this lesson. Very helpful.
My pleasure.
Good tutorial 🙌
Thanks!
you rock!! thanks so much for this :)
My pleasure! Thanks for the nice comment.
thanks for the lesson i enjoyd it
Absolutely.
It took me to this day today to be able to play this song. I practised it every day and im delighted to say ive nailed it today. ❤ now to move onto another one of your tunes. I'm super grateful for showing me how to play this tune.
Nice! Congratulations.
Great !!!! 👏👏👏Greetings from Cuba my friend
Thanks, Jany! ❤️
Great lesson!!!!!
Thanks!
Super👍🏻
Thanks!
À la anglaise 😅⁉️
May I see your version?
Thank you! Very clear and linear!! Really useful!
My pleasure!
Really Smooth. Thank you... I was a musician in my youth. Last year, I picked up guitar and started to explore this beautiful instrument. I play five minutes each day which turns into an hour or more. Bossa Nova is attainable for even me as a beginner. So good.
Excellent! Thank you.
Thank you
👍🙏
Good vidéo thank !! what is your string gauge on your pm and playing and how far from the neck do you play?
Thanks! I use .11 gauge strings. I rest my hand on the bridge so I'm not too close to the neck.
Thank you!!!
My pleasure.
You do a great job teaching sambas. Can you do Samba da Volta? That's a really cool brazilian tune I'd love to learn. Thanks :)
Thank you! I'll check out Samba da Volta. I don't think I've ever heard that one.
The most massive break ever. Nice guitar...got the same one sitting in my lap as I type this. I think the CZcams algorithm is getting a little too...deep.
🤣🤣🤣
Bravissimo
Thank you!

Thanks!

Fabulous lesson Michael. Thank you!❤
Thank you!
If I could make only one wish with aladdin’s magic lamp, I would ask him to be able to play like that on guitar!
Oh, that's very kind. Thank you!
I have a question: as I saw it the scale contains FMajor, Fminor, F Lydian, F Dim triads, and these move through the four target tones. Your example showed going V-I or i but I wonder is there ways to use this to add color to major tonality. I am asking in the context of James by Metheny where there's not a whole lot of V-I going on but on different live versions with him, Mays, Brecker etc they get pretty active chromatically and I'd like to see if this scale has some kind of application on this kind of song.
Good question. You can definitely superimpose some dominant chord ideas even if there aren't many V7 chords in the A sections of James. For example you could think about A7 over the 3rd and 4th measures even though it's got different chords written. This will definitely give you a nice "outside" sound. Does this make sense?
@@MichaelMcClintockMusic yes it does make sense, and I like that idea of superimposing a seventh onto a major. Currently at my level with that tune I have been sort of looking at that A7 in bar 3 as approaching the Bmin so I have tried a common tone approach from G to Gdim over the A7 that leads by half step to chord tones on the Bmin. On the B section, the bridge, I haven't yet found a way to execute well other than simply outlining chords or else side-slipping but I feel as though I'd love to superimpose some dominants in that section too so that when, or if, I do side-slip that it comes from a deeper well of mastery on the form.
If you're ever interested in a lesson, I'm here to help. It's a great tune for sure.
Amazing, what a feel
Thank you!
A masterpiece of our music, when we had terrific musicians, songwriters, and performers; Brazilian music being widely appreciated, playing on the radios in Brazil, they were the mainstream. Today is a shame, the media has reduced our richest music and culture to a bundle of poor songs highly influenced by the worst pop music ever. Thank you for what you have been doing in your channel, spreading the beauty and complexity of our music and culture. Muito obrigado.
Thank you! I try my best.
Brilliant!!!
Thank you! Good luck on your guitar journey and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for the lesson. Now I can do it!!
