Good short when u had that problem did have a fuel pressure sensor code ..like a p0191
Sounds like diesel
You are legend sir. I've put over a week into replacing the pump and doing a timing job and filming the whole thing because I do create automotive repair content and didn't find much the covers the entire job, including teardown and rebuild of everything. I'm going to test a few more things this try this. I very much need to get my 5.4L 2V back on the road.
UPDATE: This worked. I still had to crank for around 45 seconds after back filling the oil in, but I now have around 85lbs of pressure when cranking. Again, thanks so much for getting me out of this bind.
Sounds badass!
Nice ford 😊
Keep these videos coming dawg. Especially revving ones lol. Ik neighbors must really love u.
You gotta beast right there dude
How did those cast iron tensioners work on the 3v?
If you use them do not instal the metal plate gaskets as the hole is in a location that will now allow oil to pressurize the device
Nice.what number is your Q400. I have a 2000 Steeda GT ST360...#GT-002
This vid reminds me of the song Highway to the danger zone
Biden is applauding: nothing like a 12 horse ancient engine: very very low carbon footprint
YOU’RE THE MAN JBYRD!!!! Man thank you so very much for this video!! You have NO idea just how great it was to feel the blood pressure gauge dropping as soon as the oil pressure gauge started climbing!!!😅 Was just before having a meltdown when I ran across this video, sheww it saved my life! Guys this also applies to 03 5.4 2 valve engines as well! You can use any filter that fits your engine. Simply use a o-ring pic or something sharp to poke 3-4 holes through the plastic diaphragm inside the filter straight down in the middle of the filter. Just be careful not to puncture through the metal part of the oil filter itself as the metal is very thin. DISCARD FILTER AFTER this process replace with new. Do exactly as JBYRD says and after cranking over for about 15/20 seconds you willlll achieve oil pressure…… and woohoooooo 🎉DON’T STOP THE PARRRRRTTYYYY!!! 🎉Thanks again JBYRD may you and yours be blessed🙏!! Great video dnt care what no body says, especially when they’re too impatient to watch a five min video from someone who’s only trying to help!! 👍🏻👊🏻
What you mean poke holes. Are you referring to the small ports in the oil filter or the big middle hole?
It is good you mentioned the issue of some oil filters having a check valve. In that situation you could use the lower port on the oil filter adapter to prime the oil pump directly.
This bloke is glad you enjoyed it
You can hear fordtechmakuloco in the back
Just got done Rebuilding my 2008 FORD F150 5.4L 3V & WHATCH ALL Ford Techmakuloco's Video also. after my 4th attempt as he explains on his videos I STOPPED turning the Engine over ( w/ Crank Sensor unplugged) I then thought what the heck did I do /miss or MESSup? so i go to Melling which I haVE THE 340HV, THEN found your Video on same PROBLEM. I think i understand what your saying. So i should go get like a FRAM or something you recommend? Hard thing is getting to that Sensor... do I really need to buy this KIT at HARBOR FREIGHT? or just pump 5W-30 in that opening until it fills up? or flows out when i remove the Tube. After getting it Primed and the DUMMY GAUGE shows it roughly halfway on Cluster ...do I change out the Crappy filter back to the MOTORCRAFT 820S ? Sorry for this long indepth Comment/Questions but it seems that you know what to do. Thank you in advance. George Amodei :)
T H A N K Y O U I will be doing some upgrades, including the M360hv. 09 5.4 3v 4x4 f150 236k If I understand correctly, Because the oil pump is dry, it will not pull oil from the pan ? So you have to force feed it to get the pump to start pull oil from the pan? Thank you Sir 😊
Hi It may not. Many do fine. This one didn’t want to. I did my truck a month or two later and it did fine. It’s a lot harder to get to on one with 4x4…
@@Jbyrd75901 Hi, just dropped the oil pan to check if I connected the pickup tube, and I did. Just now thinking the same thing does this pump need primed like a water pump. After all it was installed bone dry, and I am sure now that it doesn't have much suction dry, and cracking it doesn't do much. Thanks for confirming that it needs primed!!! Was almost ready to just start the engine!
I really appreciate you making this video. I'm in the same boat right now. When you're pumping the oil through the oil pressure sensor port where you trying to turn over the engine at the same time. Did you have to turn the engine over at all?
I primed it while not turning the engine over. I pumped a quart or so in, threaded the manual oil gauge back on and then hit the key. This was wife’s 2wd expedition . on my 4x4 f150 it would be much harder to get access to
Thanks a lot. Mine is it two wheel drive F-150. The oil pressure sensor is very easy to get to. I'm going to try this today. Thanks so much
great sir g
Hello @jbyrd im about to do the same and your a life saver. Just a quick question aside from the sprayer you used, can I just use a general small liquid lube hand pump gun that has a small cup I can fill with oil and hand pump some oil in their since it also has a small thin tip that can fit in the oil switch hole? Or does it have to be a sprayer like you used?
Hi I think anything that can pump oil into the oil filter housing will work. I used the sprayer because I had it on hand and expected to pump more than i did to get it primed. I would think a few cups was more than enough
Umm..ok ???
i'm almost done with my timing job, but this video made me nervous. I'm in same boat - new melling 360 oil pump, cast iron tensioners, ford timing kit, new spark plugs, ignition coils, lots and lots of new parts. is the new oil pump failing to prime a common occurance?
No. There was absolutely no mention of it when I experienced it
Anyone know what oil filter doesn’t have the oil check valve?
THANK YOU so much for posting! my project was just like yours, but, I had no idea what to do next until your post. Be Blessed from the Most High
So you basically add oil into the port where the sensor is usually connected? I’m at the same point and unable to get pressure on the prime. Thank you
Yes but only after ensuring your oil filter doesn’t have a one way check valve, and add a volume of oil via pressure of some sort,
Perfect, thank you! I’ll let you know how it goes.
So how do you fix that?
New fuel pump
@@Jbyrd75901 that not the answer I was looking for lol. I was hoping you were gonna say injectors and/or fuel filter. 😔
@@reyalvarez1184 on the 2008 the fuel pressure regulator is built into the pump assembly and not on the fuel rail like my 04. New fuel filter didn’t help. Injectors should not make you have low fuel pressure
@@Jbyrd75901 ok thanx for the info buddy. New fuel pump is next purchase.
@@Jbyrd75901 and thank you for the quick response too!
What was the problem
New ford phasers where bad.
Could you possibly give me a parts list to adapt to propane?
FreeganDave Hartman Here is the forum where folks helped me put this together, including my method for using some brass fittings and drilling the hole to feed propane www.smokstak.com/forum/threads/finally-picked-up-an-onan-6-5-nh.158857/#post-1288996
I just went through the same thing with an engine replacement(2006 f250 5.4) your method was the only way I was able to establish oil pressure before starting the engine. I didn't have a cheepie filter, so I put slices in in the silicone valve of an extra filter that allowed it to backflow to the pump. once I achieved oil pressure, I swaped the filter out for a new one.thank you so much for your vidio
Mark reichert glad it helped you
Where is the fuel pressure test port?
David Stevenson on the fuel rail. This is an early 2008. Not sure if they kept them in the rail much longer
@@Jbyrd75901 thank you. Yeah I looked everywhere it needs a disconnect and an adaptor.
David Stevenson We where outside so I made a quick video. Thanks for the heads up on the in-line service port adapter- when ever I upgrade the current fleet I’ll have to get one. czcams.com/video/Itx8UJOTcPc/video.html
That laugh is the sound of pure fun! I just put the last bolts on my daughters today. Painted it purple for her too. It looks just like your with a Tecumseh 6.5. Thanks for sharing the video. I hope she enjoys it as much as your passenger did!
How difficult was the wiring? Did you just cut the wires and splice in the switch?
1tufgt wiring was easy. And yes. I cut the fans wires shorter and added in the speed control. It is only 12v so I just used crimp caps and then zip tires to keep the wires from getting into the blades. I did not cut a hole for the reversible switch as in my application this is a bathroom fan and did not want to suck fresh air into the bathroom
@@Jbyrd75901 Thanks for the info. I know your not using the switch, but is it locked to I or II or is there a middle place? Also is "I" forward and "II" reverse?
1tufgt the middle position on the switch dose not pass power through any direction. Depending on which way you wire the motor will determine if I or II is forward, I just made sure it was going the right way after wired to camper and before I installed it
it will pull more amperage when the airflow is unrestricted. try lifting it off the bench.
lots of valve train noise- order a new timing chain and manual tensioner
