Jamboree's Sunday session 5.5.24. The band are on fine form with this popular tune, and Enrico is taking care of business while Ewan is away

5th May 2024 at Jamboree's Sunday lunch session, featuring the Pickering Brothers. Joe on reeds, Magnus on cornet and Daniel on trombone, they all delivered impressive solos. Colin Good's piano interlude would have had the Duke's approval, I'm sure.

A charming capture of a doting and very skilful father teaching his daughter some moves. I'm sure she's absorbing the rhythms and movements, and one day, she'll be the queen of the dance floor. Such a fine interpretation of this old song. George Aschmann's aching vocal is perfectly suited to the period.

I'm afraid I didn't record the whole tune, but I'm sharing this as it has a fine solo by Ewan.

I love to watch the dancers' faces as they move so energetically to the music. Skillful and joyful.

An enthusiastic version of this popular tune went down a storm with the Sunday crowd. Does it get any better?

Composed by Sam Coslow & Leo Rubin. Recorded by both Annette Hanshaw and Ethel Waters in 1929. I think Ryan Baer's phrasing here is nearer to Annette's than Ethel's.

A splendid session at The Spice of Life in Soho today.

One of Ewan's own compositions had an outing today. A quality execution by the ever-exciting Fleeting Paradise Orchestra. What a joy!

In the absence of Ewan, who was touring with Frog and Henry, Enrico deputised in grand style. He took the vocals on this regular signing off tune. Michael McQuaid replaced Ewan on lead saxophone, ably abetted by Joe Pickering and Dave Gilman. Lewis Taylor on trumpet and Ed Parr on trombone join Enrico in the brass corner.

This couple exemplifies the sheer joy of dancing with a partner who can match you step to step. They look so happy.
