Skilsaw was 10 seconds but said 10 minutes, hand saw was 5 minutes and said 5 minutes but played in 5 seconds. 😂
But I need pretty tools
I mean I agree with you. They don’t have power tools in the 200BC era… so what did they use then to make intricate detail carvings? Hand tools… Also, it took them a year to do it… Whereas if they had power tools then, they could have done it in 10 minutes. So there’s that. Power tools don’t make a carpenter better. It makes a carpenter’s job EASIER. You still need skills and even with those hand tools I wouldn’t have the skill, but then again with a power tool I wouldn’t either…
Please let me know what your 'spring loaded clamps' are called. They're the sexiest looking frame clamps I've ever seen! And I'd get myself some if only I knew what to ask for!
5 sec because the thickness of the wood your cutting on hand is not the same so there is not enough pressure energy pressing on your hand saw.
I like hand tools but no one is going to convince me to use a plane (or heaven forbid one of the specialty fillister/router planes) for something like trim/edging or roundovers. Just no reason to
God forbid we get some new tools y’all
Haha I will haunt them 👻 😂
I would wonder where your real workbench is and what it looks like.
Nice bee hive!!
Why is it woodworkers get so much crap for having expensive good tools that makes them feel like they have to do a video like this to prove you don’t need good expensive tools to do something nice? Here’s what I learned: Good tools makes the job EASIER, not EASY. Even with good tools it’s still hard and expensive to do woodworking. You invest in the tools over time doing a lot of HARD work WITHOUT good tools to get there first. Yes you CAN do it without good tools but it WILL be hard work to complete the task and it may not look the greatest at first. If you put in the effort you will have an easier time at woodworking if that’s what you want to do. You cannot simply jump into the best tools and the best equipment from scratch without breaking your bank.
Yes exactly doing something right the first time is better than doing something twice crappy time
buy a circular saw you weirdo
Why should you use a different material for the base?
0:04 I had a mild orgasm
Router: job takes 15 minutes. Hand tools: takes one day in the shop… So yeah… some of us have wives and families and don’t have all day
Think again
Hi do you have the plans?
Ok so a sander is slower than using your hands, yha ok buddy😂😂😂😂
Also yes i know this was a joke
Shop boredom, the struggle is real 😂😂😂 spice up your shop time with a game of woodball!😂😂
Nice work! I'm glad I'm not the only one that cuts the screws to length on a project. I usually cut them and then the next time I'm at the hardware store I pick up shorter screws. Stay safe and Happy Building!💯😁
For anyone wondering those are grk screws
Great demo and some awesome customisation. Your videos always give us plenty to think of. When you showed the shelves at the end of the bench I immediately thought of putting those shelves on runners. Could even fit a large shallow drawer. That would make it easier to access more items, cut down the dust and make even better use of that space.
Im not so sure... Try cutting the wood with the same thickness please. Maybe 2inch thick wood an both 2 feet in length to cut
Hey. Nice job looks great. I am new to hand woodworking and love the idea of no screws or nails. My question is from my limited understanding, wont the top of the bench crack being secured with those mortice and tenons like that? Due to wood movement across the grain?
They still dry. Burn em before they burn you. That ez
I doubt that he did this in 60s.
Zoom out on the video so we can see the 300+ tools you have in the background
BS
Great video, but ended too abruptly. An overview of the finished bench would have been greatly appreciated. Love your skills/techniques!
Oh man, very abrupt ending! Would love to have seen the finished product but it was nice to see your techniques and skills on show.
Thank you Sir.🎉
They were thinking ahead for a garden project. Sweeping up the chips in a bin to save for the garden later, smart kids.
Why did you choose to use a hand saw vs skill saw?
You could also have used a ratchet and strap method also, like the lasso.
Different thickness
Hi Frank, it’s been a while since your last video, hope you are doing well.
Oh brother!
Why do you talk like you’ve never thought about where your vocal chords are?
You can always saw a thinner board quicker than a thicker board.
Wow, what a waste of material. Bout 1000 better and less wasteful ways to make a work bench
If it was really 5 seconds u would of never sped it up.
Now do a rip .
I am a life time all around carpenter. I had family in every phase and i was a worker so i got in on everything and i am a tool junkie and i use both and it depends on what my project is and how i decided at the beginning to do snd how. I think both have their place.
I never knew about flipping on a long cut. Thank you.
I couldn’t agree more!
Skill!
Jokes on them lol. When I started I had very little disposable income and my shop was my back patio. Got decent with a hand saw, chisels and planing….and that’s how I still work to this day. I like to joke that I can make almost anything I want even if the power goes out :)
There is a reason why Japanese woodwork is more expensive.... most are hand made... there are some things machines can't do. I can tell what's made by power tools and those done by hand tools. There is uniqueness u only get from hand tools...a set of woodwork won't look the same. Machines woodwork look generic and lack that uniqueness that can sell at a premium. Starting something and will use more hand tools than power tools. 🎉
Those screws are commonly labeled "SPAX bolts"
