I believe the butt stock of an original flintlock rifle was much longer than what you see at the beginning of this video, With a longer butt stock the flash pan is not in your eyes.

Very impressed at how good this radio sounds. Definitely seems like a super bargain at the price they go for. Thanks for the upload, giving a very good example of the receive audio on these radios. I was thinking about getting an HF radio that would perform well, and not cost a fortune, and this one sure seems to fit the bill.
