I have seen both the sub and the dub of the original Higrushi people didn’t like the dub of the original Higrushi but they would go on to dub video game Blazblue a dub that is way better then Japanese. They would also dub the anime but never got to dub the last game I was so upset I was awake for 48 hours.

It's really hard to wait every week for the episoded

One of my kids started watching this. I've yet to watch it.

Only gripe that i have is that, the this episode is that it felt too short 😥 I wish each episode was 90 min

To Blue’s point about the voice acting being intriguing, the Dragon Keepers (this show’s Power Rangers) are voiced by popular Japanese sentai live action actors. Those actors of course do voice dubbing for their action scenes in their live action sentai series. But they’re aren’t dedicated full-time VAs. To Brad’s point (or concern) about this being comparable to Deadman Wonderland, the gory sentai actions draws you in. But the real hook of this show is that this just as much a political thriller as it is a flashy sentai series. The generic hook most readers give for the series is The Boys with Power Rangers. I would say that’s the most barebones way to view the series. I would probably compare it most to Chainsaw Man. It’s a sometimes brutally violent series with a dipshit main character who doesn’t know much. Whose underpowered to the point that he basically has to fight dirty to win. While the series mocks & critiques Japanese celebrity culture but also has a ton of mysteries, some that are bigger than our MC can tackle. And a whole ensemble cast, each of whom has their own world view and goals. I’m not spoiling anything that won’t be brought up in the first 5-10 mins of the show. But the MC is a foot soldier putty patroller a la MMPR whose only ability is shape shifting and he tries to go undercover and make his way through the Dragon Keeper ranks and take them down from the inside. So, a large part of this story is his trip through the structure of the Dragon Keepers. And the many characters within. Whose an ally? Whose an enemy? There’s twists and turns in the manga that when something goes down, you may have to go back 30-40-50 chapters and find a conversation and see if that character was being honest or not. It’s fantastic because every main & supporting character feels like they believe they’re in the right. Everyone in this series sees themselves as the hero. And speaking of Blue’s aversion to RomCom, this series is written and drawn by the mangaka of The Quintessential Quintuplets.

Surprised this was the first PV and not both PVs, since the second one came out recently. 3:56 - This is connected to Book 5/the movie, which is where he had his popular phase (some stuff was cut from the anime, so they’re adding back stuff in retroactively.) 5:10 - It’s the same staff, basically the same situation as the movie, so it’s the same since the anime (they’re going closer to the LNs, which is how it’s been for a while and Book 5-6 is where the author developed their style and how the series goes from now on.) KonoBakuen is the transitional season, as it was written before the movie, but also a prequel (Continued! KonoBakuen takes place during the series.) 6:30 - The manga is it’s own thing and has filler and is generally viewed by the community as a bad adaptation (since it was made before the anime, Luna the guild person didn’t exist, since Luna and the mohawk guy are anime original characters.) The LN added Luna far later into the series as her own character, but Ruffian (mohawk guy) is still a glorified anime only extra and the manga is never referenced by any of the different media. Season 3 is anime only viewers’ first look at how Konosuba truly is (which is also covering some of the darker and serious LNs, while still being humorous.) Fun fact: the new characters and the KonoBakuen characters retain their VAs from the gacha game, so some are already used to the new characters and how they will be portrayed in the anime (to a degree, since the gacha takes some liberties and is non-canon, too.)

(Just to repackage the discussion on accents a bit.) I think there's a vague "fantasy British accent" that American actors adopt in fantasy genres... does the average American actually think that those are real British accents? Also, curious what they're going to do for the M9 show re: Taliesin's garbage Irish accent.

Apologies, as this episode was recorded way back in 2022, so my opinions on Vox Machina and CR in general have shifted since then! After we covered this, I began watching through The Mighty Nein, and gained a much larger amount of respect for the cast at large here! As a huge fan of most of the cast on their work outside of CR, it wasn’t a slight at the work they do! I believe it was just more of an observation from Blue’s perspective as a native individual from England! However, there was no shade intended with any of it, because she and I both believe that everyone across the cast is incredibly talented. And, as previously stated, I have a much more newfound respect for the cast after having finished The Mighty Nein, and soon to be starting Bells Hells. Also, to your warning, Blue and I haven’t covered season 2 as of yet (it’s on the plan for this year though) but I’ve seen it in my own time, and I enjoyed the second season a lot! If anything, the second season made me that much more excited for the animated adaption of Mighty Nein! And for a final follow up, thank you for the comment! Your comment about the accents not flying in England is odd, because Critical Role is hugely popular in England. They sold out WEMBLEY ARENA in London in 2 minutes about four months ago for a live one-shot game. So most English people seem fine with the voice performances. Most of the voice actors in the main cast and the voice director are legends in the business, in anime, cartoons and video games. Among the main cast, there’s three BAFTAS, multiple games awards, and two Emmys. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, the voice director, is credited with revolutionizing the way western Anime dubs were done with her directorial work on Cowboy Bebop in the late 90s. Why be so wierd about the accents anyway? First off, the characters aren’t in Britain. They are in a fantasy land. They are fantasy accents, based on fantasy improv performances. Taliesin Jaffe explained he is explicitly NOT doing an English accent - he based Percy’s accent off of the idea of a mid-Atlantic or “transcontinental” accent, (which was an invention of 1930s cinema) but more snobbish, because he’s supposed to be from nobility. Same reason why Casandra is stilted-sounding. Warning: Season 2 and beyond will not be a casual view, but there’s still jokes.

Fire Force and Tokyo Revengers are really good ongoing animes that I am enjoying at the moment. Also an older anime, Initial D. It’s definitely in its own category and hasn’t aged very well, but I do feel like you two would enjoy it if you gave it a chance even just for personal enjoyment. Keep up the great work!

While the new adaptation is better in pretty much every way, this 2001 version still has its own charm and a place in my heart. I think its soundtrack aged pretty well compared to its other aspects, but the missing story bits really do drag it down
