1-1/2 KG ....APPLES
1/2 KG.. SUGAR
1 TBSP.....LEMON JUICE
RED FOOD COLOR (OPTIONAL)
Here's a simple apple jam recipe using just apples, sugar, and lemon juice:
Ingredients
- 4 cups peeled, cored, and chopped apples (about 6-8 medium apples)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
### Instructions
1. **Prepare the Apples:**
- Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.
2. **Combine Ingredients:**
- In a large saucepan, combine the chopped apples, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well to ensure the sugar is evenly distributed.
3. **Cook the Jam:**
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to simmer.
- Once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook until the apples are soft and the mixture thickens, about 30-40 minutes.
4. **Check for Doneness:**
- To check if the jam is done, place a small amount on a chilled plate. Let it cool for a minute, then push it with your finger. If it wrinkles and holds its shape, it's ready. If not, continue cooking and check again after a few minutes.
5. **Blend (Optional):**
- If you prefer a smoother jam, you can use an immersion blender to blend the mixture to your desired consistency. Be careful as the mixture will be hot.
6. **Jar the Jam:**
- Once the jam reaches your desired consistency, remove it from heat. Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace at the top. Seal the jars with sterilized lids and rings.
7. **Cool and Store:**
- Allow the jars to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, store the jars in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. For longer storage, process the jars in a water bath canner for 10 minutes to seal them properly.
