Okay, this is my problem with this. I appreciate what she does and the services she offers, but she just basically said that she can’t guarantee that your book will get reviewed, even if you pay what she’s asking for. I’ve had experience with stuff like this before with other sites like Goodreads giveaways. And it sucks when no one interacts with your book. And yes, I had a professional cover designer, a professional blurb, all of it based on market research for the genre, delivered on the tropes, The truth is this industry is so saturated at this point that you really have to get lucky to break through. In fact, at this point, even good romance authors are struggling to get discovered. And 20 books to 50k? There are authors with twice as many number of books who can’t even break $300 a month. The fact is, at this point in the industry, you can do everything right, and still get nowhere. I’ve written over ten novels and a great month for me is $80 a month. I think what we have to do as writers is understand that chances are we won’t be able to do this full time. And that’s fine. I love to write and I will never stop for anything. That has to be enough for us. ❤

I love Luke Daniel's audio rendition of Dakota Krout's Completionist Chronicles. The characters became more colorful than my imagination had made them prior to listening. I usually prefer to read my books, but the audiobook is my preference in this one series. I hope he'll read the first 2 so I can have a consistent listening experience when I go through the series

I watched this video twice just to hear Jeff's magical voice!. Oh what a thing it must be to have such a magnetic voice that is blessed by Sound Gods! But you know what, if you have any technical difficulties just put Jeff on the mic to mesmerize everyone while you work on fixing the issue. I guarantee that no one will notice the disruptions if you do that! 😁

I feel bad saying this but unpopular opinion - I cannot stand listening to books narrated by Luke Daniels. I just downloaded the Three Body Problem, and I’m all the way to Chapter 4 but I can’t continue. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard and so abrasive. Luckily I saw there was another version narrated by one of the Netflix actors.

Yes, it is a choice to be happy or not - regardless of your circumstances. Your attitude is the only thing you can control in the worst of situations. But it is respectful to keep in mind that some people are in situations that are far worse than anything most of us will ever face. Their attitude is still their choice. But their level of exhaustion is way higher than what the rest of us are dealing with.

An example of the brain focusing something out is your nose. Your eyes are telling your brain that they see a nose all day long. But you never think about your nose unless it is a problem or maybe when you look in the mirror. All the rest of the time your brain keeps saying, "Nose? What nose?" Essentially it lies to you so that you don't focus on your nose all day.

For a few years, I helped run a soup kitchen in Stamford CT. I lived with a wonderful and generous couple who were both from old money. By observation, I learned and got very very clear that for them, money is just one more of the tools you need to obtain your goals. It is never the goal.

I liked what I just heard. You guys are speaking our language. Things ARE changing quickly. Again. People ARE getting more into reading, and they're more technologically sophisticated now. They want to communicate with the authors. They have questions. They have ideas. Pair that with a growing number of those "whale" readers who decide, "Hey, I'd like to write stories based upon all the life experiences I've had, but there's just SO much to it all..." and you get to where we are right now on the timeline. We think we're approaching a growth explosion on both sides. More whale readers and more Indie authors looking for direction. We are of the same mindset. 🙂 Keep talking; we're listening. I enjoyed learning about modern day indie publishing. Back in 2011 I published my first ebooks and I had a trad publisher. Now days I d be called a hybrid publisher. The biggest hurdle was educating readers on what an ebook was! Then explaining how to order one so the reader could get access to it! Thanks for sharing your insights.
