My mom passed away in 2018 from Glioblastoma. Ugly ugly disease. I took care of her much the same way you did. We never think that we will have to do that for a parent until you do and we did it with love. You referenced it, but do not feel guilty for feeling a weight lifted off as you now have free time since she is gone. It is ok and as a hospice nurse told me once, this is completely normal for a caregiver. Take one day at a time and relish in the fact that she was SO proud of you! ❤ ❤

I am so sorry for your loss, your Mom was such a sweetheart and I loved your relationship with her. One of the most comforting thoughts after losing a parent is knowing that you were there for them and that you can say goodbye with no regrets . You and your brothers (and sister in law ) can certainly say that! I commend you for being able to film this video 💔.

I experienced the similar situation when my grandmother passed away at the age of 92 due to her heart stopping on January 5 of this year. She was an outgoing person and was herself until she was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation(A-fib) 7 months prior to her death. Then, her health started to decline even though she tried to act like herself but we knew that she wasn’t herself be she would get tired easily and she had to take medication for A-fib. She also had to be in hospice care and had a cna taking care of her daily until she died. That was when my dad’s side of the family including myself and my dad’s 6 siblings from here and across the United States took care of her. We continued to take care of her until the day of her death. The last time I saw her alive was the day before she died. On January 4th, me and my dad decided to visit her out of the blue since we lived around 5 minutes away from her and we often visited her on weekends and any other days that we can go. When we got there that day, she was watching wheel of fortune and was about to watch Jeopardy so I begged my dad to let me watch it with her while not knowing that it would be the last time we would watch those shows together. We watched tv together that day and we had a great chat about life like we always did when I was growing up and prior to her passing. After Jeopardy ended, I gave her a hug/ kiss and said goodbye to her. We left her house not knowing that it was the last time that we would see her alive. The next day( January 5), my aunt got an unexpected call from my grandmother’s certified nursing assistant(CNA) that she (my grandmother) was breathing hard and that she had the fan blowing at her to help her breathe. A few later, the cna called my aunt again just as my aunt was getting out of work that day and the cna told her that something happened to my grandmother and that she needed to get there now. So, she drove there and called my dad on the way so that he could check on my grandmother. My dad asked his boss if he could leave early that day because his boss already knew about my grandmother because of her A-fib. His boss let him go that day and called my mom while he was on the way to go there. My mom told him that me and her will get dressed after she shower because we were supposed to do errands that day and we agreed to visit my grandmother instead. A few minutes later, he called my mom again and he told her to get there now. So, we quickly got dressed and went there only to find out that my grandmother was dead. At first, I was crying and then I was in a bit of a “denial” mode because I was so confused about it. I asked the cna if that was true about my grandmother being dead and she said yes. Me, the cna, my mom/dad, and my dad’s side of the family that were here in Rhode Island spent time together around here while the hospice declared her dead and the funeral home brought her away. We spent more time together after the cna left for the rest of the day and then went home afterwards. The next few days, we spent a ton of time together as a family. On January 11, we attended a wake, funeral mass, burial interment (she was buried on top of my grandfather who passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on April 7, 2017 and she took care of him until he went to the nursing home and that was where he died. We did the same thing that we did for my grandmother) , and luncheon in honor of her. A few months later, we decided to sell her house to a woman who has dogs and cats. It has been 5 months soon to be 6 months since her death and I still miss her every day since she took care of me and my twin brother when we were growing up and she attended both of our high school graduation. I also developed a really strong and deep connection with her because I really enjoyed spending time with her and talking about life. I am sad that she wouldn’t be here to attend my senior graduation from university since I will be a junior this year but I know she is looking over me and will be in my heart forever. Again, may your mom rest in peace🙏🥺.
