is it interlaced? what about the 80 column adapter and the super cpu?
why not just use the video output from the pi?
Throughout the years I have seen many repair videos. Some specialists lock themselves up in the basement or attic to concentrate more. Then they look at the patient and the diagnose is quickly made. When it is a sick Commodore, then it always is always not one of the biggest chips, but one of the smaller ones, When it is a Sinclair then most the time it is one from the bottom row of chips, sometimes one row higher. Always I wonder, why did they break their computer in the first place? If people play all the time the same game, then always the same parts wear out. By playing stupid games people break their own computer. People must stop using computers in the way they do. And if their computer breaks down, it is always because they played the game wrongfully! No more computer for them, for one last time it will be repaired, then it is going to be locked up in the cupboard and no more gaming!
Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing :)
I appreciate you went trough the possible 'troubles' also..
hehehe... 'Delemaskin' :] Greetings from a german, speaing danish...
Hey Tommy, you can use superglue and some baking soda to fill in holes in plastic.
Thanks! Yes, but I think that is more messy
are you using supports for this print ?
Nice one Tommy, Alan Sugar wanted to monopolise on Joysticks and changed the port layout on the +2 to only work with his joysticks. You can make an adapter to work with standard joysticks. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for the info!
@@Arcticretro No problem, if you need the pinout I can send you the info?
Pretty much every joystick maker added a +2 compatible tail to their joystick leads immediately. It was a totally pointless exercise by Amstrad to do that, especially as their own joystick was rubbish.
good one tommy! i dont get why the control and joystck is such a big issue with those spectrums ....but nice job on the keyboard and loading the games and fixing the machine!!
Thanks! I got an answer here in the comments regarding you need special spectrum joysticks, but it can easily be modified to work with regular atari-joysticst
Very useful video, thanks ❤
Thank you :-)
Sinclair +2 needs a converter for the joystick as the pinouts are different.
Thanks!
Definitely well done!
Thanks!
This was a nice video, although I did get the feeling it was a Beavis and Butthead review with all the giggles.
Thanks Tommy to mention me in Sweden again :) nice repair! Next time get even a bigger truck to fill with retro stuff from Sweden 😊
Sounds good! Thanks for having me there. I can come alone with no luggage and a trailer :)
hi i hope you start doing stuff on your channel robert!
Another fine job!
Thank you :)
Great video
Thanks!
@@Arcticretro thanks
You need a +2 Joystick convertor for the joystick, or you can re-wire the Joystick ports to standard.
Oh, great to know :)
...or you get a joystick that supports the Sinclair interface. There are some that have two plugs, one "normal" and one for Sinclair. "Normal" Joysticks only work on Kempston. The ports on your +2 require the joystick to be wired up for Sinclair.
Great work 👏 . It's nice to see you back with more content. Can you try your SVI-CAS on the spectrum?
Yes, but I did not find the powersupply for it.
Hermoso video. Espero te recuperes pronto del covid. Saludos!!😊🎉
Tommy, at index 5:10 or so, did you include you address in plain sight intentionally?
No, Thanks for letting me know. I usually hide it
Doesnt really matter. Everyone can find my address in no time
Tommy likes donations and candy so send him some cool stuff :)

Me encanto tu video. Soy de argentina. Aca esas maquinas hicieron historia junto con la commodore 64. Sos de alaska?
Hi do this cart work with the atari 400?
WTF? You cut out the most important part of the video: how to open the damn thing! It is a Japanese puzzle, impossible to open.
Hard but doable!
czcams.com/video/_UP-n4ZWzvE/video.htmlsi=idiJfwPNqK58-bvT She's only 28mhz that's equivalent to 8mhz 6502 like commander x16 What about interlaced and super cou with 256 colour 80 colum adapter?
This video was brutal... It's obvious this guy has no clue what he's looking at or really what he's doing.
Is the internal wire to the drive shugart 34 pin? Could you replace the drive with a regular DD one?
I like all the distorted jazz more interesting than regular pixels

1702 or 1701 ? own a 1702 myself in good condition and it works great
This machine has taken some damage. Nice to see you put a lot of time and effort into it. I never was an Amstrad guy but am very happy also to see these machines taken care of. It is very intersting to watch and follow how you come up with the needed unconventional solutions. Thank you.
I have this same machine. In fact I have it running right now, listening to some old tapes I made back when I was around 14 years old and some tapes my Dad made back when I was about 7 years old. It runs very well. It does get quite hot due to the tubes in the amp in the lower chassis. But it's still a fun machine. It needs a good cleaning (i.e. heads, belts, rollers, pulleys) and I should replace the capacitors in the power supply (there is a slight hum) and the volume control potentiometer needs a cleaning. Back when I was a kid tubes were still very much in use almost everywhere and fully solid state devices were just beginning to take over. BTW I am 66 years old now.
Two handsome guys meetup. Never mind not having had your full equipment, this still made an excellent video. It's actually a true documentary. "There is this one Swedish man, he has collected it all." ;) And we can see you both truly care on the heritage. - Don't you both excuse for the low number of videos produces. It is the content that counts. We're eager to see but willing to wait. Many thanks @RBRetroBunker and @ArcticRetro .
Hey. After 20 years of abstinence, I put my Amiga 1000 back on my desk and discovered this tutorial. Thank you very much for that! Unfortunately, the conversion doesn't work for me. I've checked, measured and dissected the video again and again. Nothing helps. As soon as I switch on the Amiga, the power LED comes on briefly and then flashes (alternating between light red and dark red). It takes about 5-10 seconds until the Amiga boots again... this repeats itself forever. Does anyone have an idea? In my instructions for the Kickrom adapter, for example, there's nothing about bending up pin 1 (U3J). It just says to make a connection to pin 1 adapter. HELP PLEASE!
Maybe you know, but sometimes on the 128K machines, you need to drop into 48 BASIC and load"" the tape there to improve compatibility with older software
Oh man I see you're not up to date, necroware rtc replacement is permanent solution once and for all
tip: use a bread board when soldering small pcb to pin headers. the bread board keeps the pin headers nice and square to the pcb
Thank you so much for the setclock tip. That was killing me. Great video!
Was just about to comment that the problem was probably the cpu and then got to the part where you also found out and got it running. Hitch the diagnostic cartridge you could see, ‘no diagnostic hardware found’ and the remark about the m1 line. I think the z80 that was in it had exactly that, a bad m1 line.
Thanks!
Very nice video!
good job tommy!! you did a good job on that machine!maybe you can do another video on the tape drive fix or replace ..and run some plus 2 specific games....nice comeback video!
Thanks! I will look into it later
Good to see you and Kojro both have new videos up. That looks like a late-model Speccy, judging from the AMSTRAD label on the board. That would put it somewhere past about 1986? You will, I'm sure, eventually get it working 100% again. Be careful with silicone grease - it tends to migrate and get on belts and other stuff it really shouldn't.
Thanks for the info!
@@Arcticretro You're welcome, Tommy. White Lithium grease (like Lubriplate) is a bit better, and tends to stay where you put it a bit better.
