Finally finished the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128 +2 - Keyboard repair and external tape mod
In this video I do a third attempt after getting some more parts. Can I repair the Spectrum 128 +2?
PCBWay kindly sponsored this video www.pcbway.com/ great quality PCBs from just $5!
I got this Sinclair/Amstrad ZX Spectrum +2 recently. It's was in a poor condition. In the first video I checked it out and it was dead. In the second video I managed to fix the fault.
This time I have to fix the remaining keys on the keyboard, and I also want to install an external tape drive mod.

Throughout the years I have seen many repair videos. Some specialists lock themselves up in the basement or attic to concentrate more. Then they look at the patient and the diagnose is quickly made. When it is a sick Commodore, then it always is always not one of the biggest chips, but one of the smaller ones, When it is a Sinclair then most the time it is one from the bottom row of chips, sometimes one row higher. Always I wonder, why did they break their computer in the first place? If people play all the time the same game, then always the same parts wear out. By playing stupid games people break their own computer. People must stop using computers in the way they do. And if their computer breaks down, it is always because they played the game wrongfully! No more computer for them, for one last time it will be repaired, then it is going to be locked up in the cupboard and no more gaming!

I have this same machine. In fact I have it running right now, listening to some old tapes I made back when I was around 14 years old and some tapes my Dad made back when I was about 7 years old. It runs very well. It does get quite hot due to the tubes in the amp in the lower chassis. But it's still a fun machine. It needs a good cleaning (i.e. heads, belts, rollers, pulleys) and I should replace the capacitors in the power supply (there is a slight hum) and the volume control potentiometer needs a cleaning. Back when I was a kid tubes were still very much in use almost everywhere and fully solid state devices were just beginning to take over. BTW I am 66 years old now.

Hey. After 20 years of abstinence, I put my Amiga 1000 back on my desk and discovered this tutorial. Thank you very much for that! Unfortunately, the conversion doesn't work for me. I've checked, measured and dissected the video again and again. Nothing helps. As soon as I switch on the Amiga, the power LED comes on briefly and then flashes (alternating between light red and dark red). It takes about 5-10 seconds until the Amiga boots again... this repeats itself forever. Does anyone have an idea? In my instructions for the Kickrom adapter, for example, there's nothing about bending up pin 1 (U3J). It just says to make a connection to pin 1 adapter. HELP PLEASE!

Good to see you and Kojro both have new videos up. That looks like a late-model Speccy, judging from the AMSTRAD label on the board. That would put it somewhere past about 1986?
