Bogen Challenger CHB20 tube PA Guitar Conversion demo

Just what the title says. Bogen Challenger CHB20 20 watt tube guitar amp conversion. This 60s era amp used to be a PA head, and it just needed a new input jack and a cabinet to become a guitar amp with a really neat distortion profile. The cabinet is a WWII era Hallicrafters radio speaker. Got this running into an 8 Ohm speaker soak into my daw unprocessed. In the video I play with the onboard ...
Tone Traveller is a Scam: TONEWOOD TAKEDOWN EPISODE 1

The Tone Traveller by Dr Herringbone is a scam. it is a 300 dollar bluetooth speaker and iPad that does nothing to your instrument. To not call it a scam would be to imply that there is literally a shred of actual evidence proving with certainty that these devices actually do anything. The problem is that there is no unified consensus about how these work, to what degree they work, why they wor...

The Truth About Aluminum Guitar Necks

I'm hoping for this video to be a repository of what I have learned in buying and playing my first aluminum necked instrument, to dispel some rumors about aluminum, and to set up a philosophy about aluminum instruments in the average player that gives re...

To my ears it sounds like a cross between a strat and a Rickenbacker.
Humbucker definitely has ricky vibes. Pretty bright and has that same signature single coily brightness happening
I've only watched around 7 minutes of this video. I need one of those. 😁
haha greatest intro ever
Nice looking guitar...have yet to try out a d'angelico in person myself yet. Seems like a nice jazzmaster alternative.
Def like the offset body on this model
Everything they make is cheap butt hole
I've wanted to like D'Angelico but every single one I've picked up was ass.
For what reasons? What model?
@@gucdude feel cheap
All of them
@@bradleyclosson5042 that is like the most useless contribution to a conversation. "I don't like any of them it because of reasons." If you can't name one, maybe you're just projecting your pre-existing bias.
@@urbanweekendwarrior7238 You've nailed it. "I don't like D'Angelico guitars because they all feel cheap.' is the output of a restricted intellect.
Awesome!!
BULLSHIT, you can have my tonewood when you pry my SACRED PRS from my cold dead hands! LOL awesome video
Everyone knows PRS stands for: Powerfully Resonated Stankmachine!!!!
"and you suck and you can't play cause you don't practice" LMAO i feel so called out right now XD
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 TELL EM LIKE IT IS BABYEEEEEE
I know the feeling EXACTLY! I worked at a furniture store which would bring me to the dump multiple times a week. One day I pulled up and my buddy up there says, "Hey man, I saved something you might want. He goes into the shack and comes back out with an MIM Fender Jazz bass, and an American Fender bullet bass with the Tele style headstock, and a Badass bridge. The J bass was black with ridiculously stupid lightning bolts carved into the paint, but they sanded out with plenty of paint left to buff back out, but I left it rough sanded flat black because it looked really cool that way. All it needed was tuners. The bullet needed a little more work so the tuners and Badass went on the J bass, as well as a proper level crown and polish, and the American made bullet, with a maple board, is now awaiting its turn on the bench!
That's awesome dude! I feel like when an instrument has a story like that it's so cool. You hear about the Jack White Airline guitar being a 50 dollar pawn shop find, and it boggles the mind
@@gucdude The same guy at the dump scored me an early Squire Stratwith the big headstock. He was very generous, he never wanted a penny. I also found a Silvertone Catalina, from the 50s, at a yardsale for 70 dollars. That made me feel the same way!
No way dude!! Those are a collectible dream haha I love those old archtops. I had some old Serenader archtop with a neck pickup I got at a flea market too for 40 bucks. Just needed a neck reset and it played great! Unfortunately it became unsaveable later for other reasons but it was the perfect busking guitar
@@gucdude oh man, I love my Silvertone so much. It could probably do with a neck reset but it's not that bad at all. It's the blue and white one, all original, it even still has the original klusons on it. The paint is all there and the aging is perfect and beautiful. The only thing it's missing is the pick guard. The screws and rubber mounts are there but the guard is not. It came with a harmony jazz box as well, both for 75 bucks or whatever it was, but the harmony is much farther gone. It needs serious work that I'm not set up for, bit the Sivertone is in incredible condition.
Such an amazing experience. I feel like it was a sign from someone or something to keep playing!
It's awesome you saved that neck from a landfill and it has a second life. I often wonder how many amazing items end up rotting in old damp coffee grounds and browning banana peels.
Aluminum is cool, but I think I get more good toan from cast iron
6 minutes in and he's still off on tangents. I'm out
I know, who does this guy think he is
What happens when the frets wear down enough to need a fret job? You would have to put a whole knew neck no? I want a Travis Bean or Vintage Kramer.
The neck was fretted just like a standard neck, but with stainless frets, so I assume they refret the same. Can't imagine needing a fretjob for a long time
I wish this was a 2 minute video.
Just watch it faster😳
Who cares about the rest of the guitar. The neck? Click bait
Skip ahead, hot shot
Aluminium
England moment
I don't know what I regret more; not buying Bitcoin when it was $70 a coin or a Travis Bean when they were under $1k. 😭
Dude all music gear has doubled in price, it's so fucked up
@@gucdude it’s horrible.
The thing I always think when people demand a hundred different tones out of every piece of gear they own is "but what's your SOUND?". I don't really have songs that I think are so me that you could tell I wrote them if somebody else played them, I'm not technically very good, but I think my drummer could pick me playing power chords out of a lineup because I have a sound. I guess a big percentage of players fall into that wedding cover band category that needs every tone besides metal, but I think one of the best things about playing guitar is getting my tone stack, tuning, and rig right so it feels like it's my guitar sound. I have this ancient Hot Rod with a fucked up reverb that does this rhythmic clanging on certain tones, and I'd really miss it if I traded up to a smaller, nicer tube amp like everybody's been telling me to forever.
So you don't use different sounds when writing music?
You just won't build any unique character to your tone if you decide to play like everyone else. I am all into one piece of weird gear and commiting to it fully instead of a do everything machine. Leave those in the studio!
i hear ya. i think i'm now at the age, or point in my guitar life, that i know what it is i like and don't like. i think its cool to have different features, but i find it more of a novelty than anything. i never end up liking the tone. in the end, i like simple. SGs, tele, strats and maybe Les pauls
Who cares about their politics, they make guitar necks. If this country is so divided that people won’t buy off a conservative/liberal then this country is more doomed than I suspected.
Life usually doesn't give you the choice not to financially support someone who is actively doing damage to society, so when that choice appears, some people gladly take it
@@ileutur6863 bit fanatical to say supporting trump or biden is doing damage to society but alright lol
THIS IS GOOD
Just realized the intro is in there twice. I ain't uploadin this again. Deal with it!!!!
Great video Ill watch twice no problem, loved your opinions and style on your guitar 😊.
lol
I love how you start out with a fairly dirty 'clean' bro haha. That is how you give a fuzz a fighting chance. This sounds good!
I've stumbled upon people online who are against the public domain in the wake of Steamboat Willie becoming part of it, with their arguments being that it would ruin their original creators' intent and theming of its stories and characters with elements that make little to no sense for them and would open the floodgates for reactionaries to maintain/enhance whatever problematic themes it had to counter those who want to address and dismantle them with their own versions of those IPs.
I think to be against the public domain because of one contribution of material goes against it's entire spirit
I also think because IPs that are in the public domain don't need to be altered, they are altered less than someone trying to avoid a copyright claim
Goated. Abolutely.
Ty bbbbbbbbb ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lol me laughing my ass off watching the silent film on the side
How much difficulty did you have installing the neck?
Not much. The neck pocket was a great fit, just needed to make sure the neck was aligned with the bridge and pickups, so strings don't hang off the fretboard. I eyeballed mine and it was fine
Cool! Now you have a really nice one of a kind bass! Sounds great too.
id like to buy one of these if youd be fine making another
Maybe in the future I will! You'll be the first to know lol
