Aprilia SR GT 125 : Easter Road, Edinburgh - May 2024
Still putting my new DJI Osmo Action 4 though it’s paces, very impressed so far. Here is my run today down Easter Road in the Leith area of Edinburgh, home to Hibernian football club and a variety of small independent local shops.
The camera is mounted on the visor of my open face Caberg Riviera helmet.

Finally got fed up with the Go Pro Hero 8. It’s buggy and the battery life is lousy. Got myself a DJI Osmo 4 to replace it and I have to say after a few initial tests today I am very impressed.

Aprilia SR GT 125 : Post Winter Check

Thought today was warm and sunny so could carry out a leisurely post winter check over of the bikes condition. In fact it was sunny and freezing so video is shorter than I planned !! Apologies also for the wind noise. The good news is everything points to the SR GT 125 being a robust machine, well suited to our more challenging Northern European climate.

Half way through the SR GT’s second Scottish winter and I’m delighted to say it’s still performing beautifully. Out on it every day with the exception of severe snow or ice which thankfully we’ve not seen much of so far in Edinburgh. Sadly it’s not looking it’s best as the winter grime builds up…

    Thanks for all the SR GT content. A friend of mine told me not to use shock covers. He said he once used it on his Yamaha or something and the friction between the cover material and the springs stripped the paint off on some sections, which subsequently got rusted. On the other hand, your springs look fine. Maybe I should use them after all, I don't know.

      Hi, I don’t actually own the Zoomer any more so a bit out of the loop with regard to suppliers. I got my front shocks from a UK company that refurbished Zoomers as surf board carrying bikes, but their website seems down now. You could try Webike in Japan. Uprated front shocks, in my opinion, improve the ride more than uprating the rear.

    I thought you were in Spain when I saw that blue sky - until I heard the Arctic wind blast! 🥶 The Aprilia's holding up really well especially considering the harsh conditions. My Gilera is over 12 years old now and is still looking good so you should get a few more seasons out of yours yet! Before each winter I take a small paint brush and apply ACF50 to the bottom yoke and also to the tops of the fork tubes where they enter the yoke and this has prevented any corrosion. Brake pipe banjos and bleed nipples also benefit from this treatment. I don't know if there's one available for the Aprilia, but I fitted a stainless Leo Vince exhaust and it makes winter cleaning so much easier. Roll on summer! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    • @scottishzoomer
      @scottishzoomer Před 29 dny

      😄😄 Spain…I wish. Thanks for the ACF50 tip, I have some of that and sprayed it over the engine area when I last had the seat bucket out, but using a paintbrush to do smaller areas is a great idea I will certainly pinch. I think there is an aftermarket Leo Vince exhaust but a few who have installed it don’t like the amount of noise it makes. I’m not a fan of loud exhausts myself so I think I’ll stick to the stock one for now, it seems to be holding up really well. Thanks again 👍

    currently just went through my 6k myself in just under 18 months (been on some rather long rides 150 miles of so) and had no real problems except the rollers and sliders got chaneged today on the 3rd serevice, and before that i needed to change the rear tyre for something with a bit harder rubber as within 4000 miles (the rubber was nearly smooth on the rear wheel) so i would suggest something like Bridgestone Battlax SC tyres as decent replacement tyres.

      @@scottishzoomer Yeah it is really nice. My first ride on it (8 mile commute) was a bit of a culture shock because it weighs a tonne and I'd never done gears on a bike before, but once you get used to it you can filter just like on a scooter and the power is way more - I'm 20+stone and still blow away my smaller friends on their 4 stroke scooters. Also you can take speedbumps and potholes at 50mph no problem. They are expensive though, my 19yo Varadero (7k miles very good condition) was the same price as a brand new Aprilia SRGT or CBF125

      Hi, to be honest I didn’t have much choice at the time. These bikes were few and far between when I bought mine, the only dealer anywhere near me just had the one in his showroom. I do like the sports models with the brighter colours and graphics but then again I ride on a provisional licence so sporty graphics can look a bit silly when you have an “L” plate front and rear 😄. I wear a white helmet with hi vis adhesive strips and hi vis jacket panels so hopefully I’m visible enough. Two Scottish winters completed so far and no mishaps 🤞

      I find the bike handles pretty well in high winds, and don’t have any issues with leg/knee protection although that may be down as much to good trousers as anything else, having said that the fairing is quite wide so it’s better than some scooters. Hi Matt, thanks for watching the videos, glad you enjoy them. It’s a while since I owned the Nmax and I didn’t have it for long, but my main memory of it was it’s dislike of windy conditions, it could be quite a handful on a blowy day. I can’t fault the Aprilia, it’s powerful for a 125, stable, handles beautifully and I’ve had no mechanical issues in the 18 months I’ve had it. It probably suits a taller rider, I’m 6’2”, but you should be fine. Hope this helps you make your decision, any other questions just drop me a line. All the best, Simon

    • @scottishzoomer
      @scottishzoomer Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, there is no right or wrong answer for this as it depends on many factors including weight of the rider, weight of the bike (additional accessories), non stock mechanical upgrades etc. I no longer have my Zoomer but I used to use around 5.5g sliders, maybe even have 3 x 5.5g and 3 x 6.0g. You really have to play around with different weights until you discover what suits your set up. If you have a FI Zoomer as I had, the only way to significantly improve performance is by fitting something like an iMap which will allow you to adjust fuel levels into the injector, but this is not a cheap or easy option.
