had to jack this one do to the arc site to our left and to our rear. you can see a silver structure in the back left corner that is part of the 100 year old site. so a little push with the 50 ton silvey jacks it was

If you don’t understand how to fall a tree like that…..don’t. There’s a good chance it is the last thing you will ever attempt.
Would have been cool to have cut it about 30 feet up instead, and allowed an artist to come in and sculpt th remainder.

Why do you have to cut burning trees down in a forest? I can think of some reasons, but I’m very curious why it’s better to cut a tree, than just let it stand there.

You started the tree on fire before cutting it down. Nothing else around is burnt at all.

That was very cool. I would have loved to see the cut. Not that I fall trees (I only have a 10” electric and we all know size matters). But I still find the process interesting, especially watching leaning trees go against gravity.

@0:35 in addition to the sizwheel (on the right from the perspective of the cameraman), it looks like the hinge wood (on the left from the perspective of the cameraman) was nearly cut off/through, creating what has been called swinging dutchman.
Why didn't they just spend same time pouring water in to quench the fire? No water available?
Far out! As if felling large trees wasn’t dangerous enough! Lets compromise the structural integrity, cloud your vision, impair your breathing and cognitive clarity and make you want to rush the job cause your hot, bothered and the job isn’t gettin safer.

Do you even see the hole inside the tree that had burned off? even if the fire is put out the tree is still a danger from crushing any living being in the area.
