Here's what's always been my problem with Philemon Pastor. Paul is in jail in Rome for preaching the Gospel in violation of Roman law. Because he puts God's law above mans law. But it's Roman law that says you have to return runaway slaves to their owners. And God's law in the Bible says that you are NOT to return a runaway slave to their owner. So why did Paul return Onesimus to Philemon in violation of God's law? I've never heard a good answer to that. And also, the name Onesimus would have been given to him by Philemon, it wouldn't be his name given at birth. It was a common name given to slaves at the time. Plus, it's not likely that Onesimus was a Hebrew. The letter doesn't say that, so he was probably not a debt indentured servant as you said. Hebrew indentured servants had to be released after six years so running away would not have made much sense when he was going to be released anyway. He was probably a lifelong slave as allowed in the Bible for foreigners. But that's another more complicated subject altogether...
