Can't wait to see more new tracks down the line with the improvements Willow Springs has. Sonoma ~2008 vs. the brand new 2023 Willow Springs recorded on the same day, same car, same settings.

you need to slow down when you are doing these, I had to rewind each part a million times to see what you were doing.

When I open the next gen template with WinRar all I see is a bunch of coding. Why can’t I see the car layout so I’m able to paint?

Loving the tutorial's! I know it probably takes forever to make them but I would love a suit one too. For me the most important part is you describing what each piece on the template is as I am new and don't exactly know which part I'm painting. Seriously great stuff.
Gimp really pisses me off i do the bullshit you said and all it does is turn my car red..., and photopea what i normally use, well i have no idea how to just simply add fucking metallic... I don't understand why they make this bullshit so fucking complicated.
Hey, based on what you mentioned what might be happening is that you aren't exporting the spec file as (car_spec_userid) and rather just exporting it as (car_num_userid) and thus it's replacing the design and not instructing the sim to make the car metallic. Hope this helps!

Why not use the built in symmetry to repeat what you have between the left and right side of the car? Go to windows > Dockable Dialogs > Symmetry Painting In the new window (Symmetry Painting top right), select the mirror option in the drop down Select horizontal symmetry and adjust the Horizontal axis position until the line is smack in the middle of the roof using the wire frame as a reference Create what you want on either side of the line and have it mirrored perfectly on the other side. You're welcome.

Are the trading paints templates the same as the iRacing ones? Say for the helmet and suits? Love the series, Also would love a fire suit video.
From my understanding they should be up to date and the same as the ones you can pull from the UI but I would just check once you load a scheme up in sim if anything looks goofy or broken. Hope this helps!

I just want to say this might be the most helpful video I've seen on CZcams. You managed to cover practically any possibility a person might need to know and gave multiple examples on the outcomes. I hope other people needing help with specmaps get lucky and click on this video like I did.

out of all the videos i have seen this shows exactly what i am looking for the problem with what i have is i dont know how to do the shading or for example blend the colors
mine looks good in iracing paint shop untill i load into a track then it turns all black weird
Hmmm could be that you have the trading paints installer running and its overlaying a different spec map onto the car than what you want. Make sure you are in paint mode or just kill it in task manager as you are painting. Hope this helps!

Out of all the videos I have seen using gimp to design cars on iRacing, this is by far the best I have seen. It may be long but worth it as this has explained so much more compared to every video I have seen. Thank you very much.

Rookie here, where do you go to change the wheel color in the template?
Hey Cole, Check around the 2 minute mark I showcase that process. It's within the iRacing UI, click on paint car, find the car you want to change wheel rim color. Click on that car, on the right hand side of the screen scroll to the bottom and rim color will be the last option. Hope this helps!

@@cole948 Utilize Ctrl+m to select the move tool. Should be able to move layers with it.

Hey John, I can certainly look into it. Are you having trouble finding the template and 3D viewer for it or just want some pointers when working in gimp with it? It's notoriously the hardest template to paint on iRacing haha

I run #DB0000 Chrome for all my rims wherever possible. Makes it kind of look like they are glowing red from brakes lol

Great job on this, you were the only resource I found that concisely showed what the spec map is, how to save it, and how quickly you can use the RGB values as an interface for changing material properties.
